Fledglings don't makes resolutions in January, they fly through the babysteps.

So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

Well we came back from the gala with a silver medal! DD knocked a second off her time and is chuffed to bits. She now has next Sunday or the following Saturday to lose another 3 to get the County qualifying time but even with what she has we can apply.

DH had taken all the xmas decs boxes out to the garage and hovered the lounge of tinsel. He cooked dinner and Shock horror washed the pots!!!!

I was a bit late putting a wash on so decided to watch the Horse Whisperer whilst its in and I will hang it up to dry before bed. We have never had a tumble drier - even when DD was in reusable nappies - but had the luxury of a spare room to put the stands in.

We have an inset day tomorrow and I promised to take DD to see the Moshi Monsters movie. But I will need to iron uniform and sort bags afterwards.

Toffee - Glad to hear your DH has been sorted and hopefully he will be up and about again.

BitchytheGreat · 06/01/2014 01:30

I have lost important paperwork. Arses.
Can't sleep either so am going to try to sort a few bits out. Just made the mistake of sticking my head into the office to look for a stapler Hmm I am resisting the urge to be a perfectionist and insanely crazy and attempt to tackle it in any shape or form. Another day will do.

in the mean time

ta da
2x washing loads done
1 box worth of stuff sorted (actually 2 half boxes)
file a heap of paperwork.

Right stapler and on with the looking in a constructed rather then panicky manner Hmm

Still got a whole heap of stuff to do for getting ds ready for school tomo Hmm Just remembered I forgot to wash up his lunch box before the break

OP posts:
BitchytheGreat · 06/01/2014 03:37

ta da
5th load of washing on
2 boxes of random stuff sorted and cleared
1 box sorted and updated (ie hold paperwork that needs me to be awake to deal with but only that now)
ironing
folding
letters for school
sort out stuff for volunteer work tomo
Move chest of drawers and bookcase looking for an envelope containing important stuff

Toffee - Hope your Dh is feeling much better today.

BlueEyeshadow - what a pain in the bum about your handbag. I always forget something of mine at my mums too hopefully sometimes a child. Grin

Dizzy - Congratulations to your DD. Nice to hear all the hard work, is paying off.

Bitchy Yes, I forgot the lunch boxes too. Thanks for the reminder!
Cant believe how productive you are between 1.30 and 3.30 AM.

Yesterday Ta da - consists of painting the twins bedroom - 3 coats in and will need to buy another tin as it could do with at least another coat! Angry it so bloody watery that its not covering - bloody Dulux as well!! (Bought 12 months ago, otherwise would be returning it yes, it taken that long to get around to painting it, the boy are wall drawers - hence the lack of enthusiasm.)

Well, I am up. Haven't been going to bed until 2 am and then rising about 9 but not getting out of bed until 11. With school looming, tried last night/this morning to reset myself. Lucky did get to sleep about 12, and the pouring rain setting off my car alarm off this morning got me up at 6 - now trying to be productive.

Blue his MA.

Toffee glad the operation is done and he'll be home later.

It's just me and the kids at home today. I'll not be getting anything done. Must get a shower before they wake up...

WhispersOfWickedness · 06/01/2014 07:34

Toffee - glad DH's operation went well, hope he recovers quickly Smile

Dizzy - well done to your DD! Grin

Well, I am still lying in bed after the DC gave us a lovely lie in until 6.30 Grin The DC are now playing in their rooms while I work up the motivation to get out of bed Smile I am happy to be able to tick off one thing already today - DH put the bin out already as it is rammed full, with more bags piled up outside the back door... They moved the Christmas Eve bin collection to the day before but we didn't realise until after they'd been Sad
Not sure how much I'll get done today, I'm always less productive on a Monday and Friday as the TV is banned those days, I do tend to use it as a babysitter while I get stuff done Blush

Bollocks. That is all I have to say.

BitchytheGreat · 06/01/2014 08:38

I must to admit, I'm with you on that this morning ellie

ds does not want to go to school and is making his feelings on the matter known. I have had about an hours kip.

Will be back with links when I have got rid of devil child.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 06/01/2014 08:39

Whispers I use the tv too, to keep mine out of mischief whilst doing jobs about the home.

You ok Ellie?

Toffee glad your H is ok. It sounds like it was very straight forward if they're letting him out today. My nephews burst and he had to be kept in for many days.

My DCs are on an inset day today so my to dos are

Thank you letters
Mop kitchen and bathroom
Washing
Admin bits
Wretched fish tank
Clean hamsters cage

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/01/2014 08:56

Bollocks here too. Got the DCs to school OK and am feeling like a windswept wreck (mile round walk). However my route to work is closed due to flooding and the entire town gridlocks when there's so much as a broken down car, so not looking forward to the journey.

CallingAllEngels · 06/01/2014 08:57

I have been using tv so I can MN this morning! Now what can I put 8n whioe I do home bleurgh?!

silly I loved ROD (also did for A-level) but didn't enjoy NLMG. I found the style of narration really annoying and clumsy ("oh, that reminds me, let me tell you about the time when...") but I liked the idea of the story. Would like to see the film.

Okay, as well as home bleurgh and supermarket/hospital, ahve realised that I should have mRked 2 important projects for today. Not in school so will have to hand them in first thing tomorrow morning. So when am I going to mark them with ds all day and a run this evening?!

Okay, time to get off MN and do hoem bleurgh (it's so long since I've done one, I'll have to check the website to see what I have to do!).

GoingGoingGoth · 06/01/2014 09:35

Morning all, can't believe how early the alarm seemed to go off this morning.

I think DD was quite pleased to go back to school, I can't believe how smooth this morning went (apart from when she couldn't find her hair band) I think it helped that DH stayed in bed.

Done
Beds
DD's packed lunch
Dd to school
Greengrocers - got apples for chutney
Co-op -forgot vinegar for chutney Sad

Just having 5 mins with Brew and book, before completing Home Bleugh, post Christmas clean yesterday covered a good proportion.

To do in no particular order
Dust
Recycling out
Cat litter tray
Washing up
Ironing
Laundry on
Dry clothes away
Pack squares for Woolly Hugs
Post squares & DD's thank you cards
Collect DD
DD to karate
Dinner
Boil hand warmers
Make fitting adjustment to DH's coat.
Paperwork

Ok so that's enough to be getting on with.

Hope everyone's day improves.

EustaciaVye · 06/01/2014 10:03

hi all.
dipping in to wish toffee's dh well.
one on inset day but order should be restored by midweek Grin

humanordancer · 06/01/2014 10:05

Morning all!

Am I right in thinking the home bleurgh is today's daily focus?

If it is,

Ta da

Sink (I keep having a little look at it; DP is strangely not so excited by it, but agrees to keep it empty. I'm finding it makes doing anything in the kitchen easier now it's not blocked up with things "soaking".)

To do

Morning routine
Home bleurgh
Swish and Swipe
15 mins decluttering
Make a stock
Write letter
Print letter
Finance admin
Wash and dry bedding
Walk
Buy sports bra (I am using lack of this as excuse not to do exercise DVD)

Sillybillybob · 06/01/2014 10:10

human I'm positively delighted by my sink!!! I love coming down to it every day. Ditto the cleared and wiped down sides in the kitchen. And the clear hall...

I'm not panicking about the nurse coming in half an hour.

I've played more with the DCs this morning than I probably have over the whole Christmas fortnight as I'm not feeling pressured to get everything tidy!

Aliama · 06/01/2014 11:01

Just doing the basics today, really as cba, and I have a really busy week, hospital appointments etc, so just trying to keep on top of things really.

Pull out details of GTT appointment tomorrow (ugh), and figure out journey to hospital
Buy bottle of lucozade (bleugh, can't stand the stuff)
Buy magazine to read tomorrow
Feel sorry for myself and dread the lack of caffiene tomorrow morning (have to fast from a certain time tonight, water only)

giraffeseatpineapples · 06/01/2014 11:11

what is house bleugh please? had a look through fly lady site but couldn't find it. Def feeling bleugh myself trying to low carb and haven't done much house stuff. DD has an unexpected inset day from playschool which has thrown my plans a bit. Also still need to dechristmas Blush!

giraffeseatpineapples · 06/01/2014 11:12

wow aliama at your tada on a cba day, i would be seiously chuffed!

BitchytheGreat · 06/01/2014 11:17

Sorry giraffes. We call the fat fairy's home blessing the home bleurgh as we got a bit sick of the tweeness at one point. Details here

OP posts:
Aliama · 06/01/2014 11:25

Thanks, giraffe, but it's not as impressive as it looks. Mess in the living room was mainly toys and newspapers, and I cooked last night so strangely enough the kitchen was already tidier than usual.

Didn't take long at all, thank goodness. Little and often really is the way to go.

BitchytheGreat · 06/01/2014 11:27

random matter of note: don't forget to test your fire alarms!

Have discovered a potential issue with our new bin. It's the brilliant steel one, as that was considerably cheaper than the brushed steel. So far I love it, but last night caught dd kissing her reflection. And by 'kissing' I mean 'licking'. Oh dear.
