So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

Pottering along here. Just about to take the DCs and a load of friends donutting at the local dry ski slope in between showers hopefully, have had some downpours. House is slowly getting tidier but decorations are still up, DH has been unwell ever since Boxing Day so not getting as much done and he is till under my feet. Much better today though and has taken himself off out for a bit.

I've never tried the ham in cola thing, I have read about is so many times and so many people seem to love it but I just can't bring myself to do it, it just seems wrong. I'm not a fan of sweet things with meat, maybe that's why. Hope you enjoy it though Still, do report back.

Castlelough · 03/01/2014 12:59

Argh! DM IS coming! I thought she wouldn't. Oh dear oh dear house is in CHAOS and I have NO groceries in. Leaving to grocery shop and collect her from the train in 45 mins

Why oh why dis I stop swishing and swiping?

GossipWitch · 03/01/2014 14:17

Quick tada

Get a shower
Either wake dp up in a nice way and/or get dressed - didnt wake dp up I let him wake on his own very glad I did though it turns out he had a horrid night and was thinking about his deceased partner all night Sad
Phone old council about money they owe me ! - so glad this one is sorted
Shine sink
Do 15 mins of de-cluttering in the dining room (hallways fine and dining room has paper clutter)-ended up being a bit longer as was sorting out old photos too.
Do laundry-1 load

to do
wash few pots
Clean car
Go to granmamas and into town there.
Drop ds1 off at his dads
Possibly drop into my dads
Possibly do weekly shop on way home.

Really want to eat cake right now but settled for an apple, starting to wonder if friends were right about it being too soon after dp's partners death that we got together, or whether it was just a wobble, after all, we all have moments of reminiscence don't we... I still get a small stab of jealousy when I hear that my ex is talking about moving in with his now very lovely girlfriend and he never really thought about it with me Hmm. Anyway dp seems fine after a little chat about it, but tbh all its done for me is fed my paranoia and insecurities that little bit more,(curse all those previously failed relationships) obv not telling dp any of this as he'd never feel ok talking to me about it and I'd much rather he did. So I've put my fake face on and hoping my brain will sort itself out by the end of the day.

The kids are so loud today!!

Merrybuddha · 03/01/2014 14:23

Congratulations Engles Smile. I have been married 7 years and yet to have a Honeymoon, believe me, when the kids move out, I am going to town on massive honeymoon planning!!!

This thread has made me snort my water (yes, still being good) thrice, once Bitchy's link did see that coming, Bauble who broke her Dh and Doris's request to have an alibi!

We went ice skating this morning and in true Merry style it pissed down and the wind picked up as soon as we started. We all looked like drowned rats. Though it was quite good, as for the little ones that could not skate I just had to let go of them at the right time and wind took them from one side to the other. But the boys were in good humour and we stay out in it for the full hour. Then went inside for hot chocolate £18.

Did a quick food shop on the way home.
Filled the boys with hot soup.
Now tidying up the kitchen before snugging down on the sofa for a film.

Merrybuddha · 03/01/2014 14:31

Sorry Gossip x post, I am sure you bring your DP great joy. It nice you can talk with him about it, I am sure if he did not talk to you, then there would reason for concern. But communication sounds good, so doesn't sound like any need for worry.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 03/01/2014 14:33

It was whispers who almost broke her H Grin Envy

Merrybuddha · 03/01/2014 14:44

Yes, it was!! [Blush] meant to check back! but forgot!

Merrybuddha · 03/01/2014 14:48

Sorry, Momeraths!

ToffeeWhirl · 03/01/2014 14:55

Gossip - that must be hard for you, but, as Merry says, it's a good sign that your DH can be open with you about it.

Ta da

Washing up
Two loads of washing & drying
Kept an eye on three small, boisterous and noisy boys
Made apricot and banana loaf
Lunch

Doesn't seem much, but it's taken all morning. Now have to do two things I really don't want to do: walk to the Post Office in the wind and rain to post a parcel; and make a phone call that I don't want to make.

Whispers - don't worry, fuck fun is not about not having fun - rather the opposite, in fact Grin.

NickNacks · 03/01/2014 15:12

Well I kept one of my resolutions last night Wink

Just about to drop the dc off at my mum's for the night and dh and I am off out for dinner with friends. So we might even make it two in a row.....

House not looking too bad.. Not great though.

gossip that all seems very difficult for your both. Please be gentle to yourself.

humanordancer · 03/01/2014 15:16

Hello could I join please? I think this would be a good thing for me as I have a tendency to do the perfectionism thing and then give up.

I've done the sink but I'm not wearing shoes. Although I suppose I could dig some converse out - would they count?

ToffeeWhirl · 03/01/2014 15:42

NickNacks - oh my, you're all at it Grin! (Please note that Friday is for Fuck Fun - I don't think we're allowed to do it twice in a week Wink).

Welcome, human. Don't worry about the shoes - lots of us don't bother with that.

GossipWitch · 03/01/2014 15:48

Im sat in argos waiting for 3 boys sorry 2 boys 1 man to make choices on games ds3 is sat next to me very patiently playing on his ds, he's so much like me, even spent all his money in the first shop we went in. Starving hungry though.

humanordancer · 03/01/2014 16:23

Thanks Toffee, yay no shoes! I have done a swish and swipe, and on a second load of washing so it doesn't seem to be holding me back.

Was tempted to change bed but instead off out to buy a sports bra so I have no excuse not to do the exercise DVDs I bought months ago.

I'm enjoying the sink - no room under it for a bowl, so I've put one next to it and am rinsing things before putting them in - it feels more manageable already.

BitchytheGreat · 03/01/2014 17:29

Would people stop breaking MN how on earth Am i supposed to write my ta da list?

GoingGoingGoth · 03/01/2014 17:29

Afternoon all,

Back from my trip and no dinner required tonight, not after DD & DH stuffed themselves on meatballs & hotdogs. Not a big haul this time; ice-cream scoop, coathangers, tea-lights, and a huge pink umbrella not that it's any use in this weather and a couple of Christmas decorations.

Got home to find my veg bag propped up against front door Blush so will be paying double next time. Got some lovely looking leeks this week, which GothCat seems interested in!

GoingGoingGoth · 03/01/2014 17:31

Just a quick wave to mark my spot as phone really doesn't like MN and first time I've managed to post. Back properly tomorrow.

Cheers Wine

CallingAllEngels · 03/01/2014 18:17

Evening all. DS has been a horror today...embarrassingly badly behaved at the supermarket and the post office as well as the slipper-down-the-toilet episode.

Thankfully he's sleeping now.

Loving looking at my new ring! Have to go and get it resized tomorrow though as a smige too big.

final ta da
washing in td
made chicken and veg soup for dinner and freezer
nice chat with sister

Had very annoying news from hospital. HCG still isn't 0 and gynae said it has to be 3 for them to sign me off. It's 4! So back to for another blood test in 2 weeks. Glad that we had already decided not to ttc this month.

Hope you're all safe and warm inside. Can't believe the pictures of flooding on the news.

andagiraffeinapineappletree · 03/01/2014 19:05

My mum was coming round to look after the children while I was at work today, so I resisted the temptation to go back to bed and got some bits done,

sink and hob shiny
dw, wm
dstairs hoover and ,mini tidy
plump cushions
bathroom somewhere between swipe and a proper clean
bins
light scented candles to hide any minging smells
me suitably coiffed for work and dds' hair ponytailed and teethbrushed (ds doesn't need prompting but dd1 will lie and say she can't remember if she brushed them!)

The children had actual vegetables at dinner time too! need to do second dw now.

Enjoy fuck friday!

andagiraffeinapineappletree · 03/01/2014 19:07

hi blueeyeshadow Smile

ToffeeWhirl · 03/01/2014 19:27

Ta da

Took decorations down
Took tree down
Packed decorations away in Xmas box
Texted instead of phoning (coward)
Deferred PO trip till tomorrow because of storm and hail
Cooked dinner (meatballs, spaghetti and homemade veg sauce)
Put lots of healthy salad stuff on the table for DC to help themselves (they didn't)
Drank Wine
Washed up
Wiped down kitchen counters
Ate some of the Ben & Jerry's ice cream that was bought to fatten up my skinny boys Blush (impossible to resist the Cookie Dough one)

About to inspect a 'grow-your-own indoor vegetable garden' kit I bought for DS2 to encourage him to eat veg. Not sure if we can plant anything yet, especially in this atrocious weather. Bit worried about flooding here in Sussex. Our local river is starting to overflow.

Time to do the bedtime routine. Oh, and tidy up DS2's bedroom following the playdate this morning.

elliepac · 03/01/2014 19:44

Evening all. No flying whatsoever, even had ready meals for teaBlush.

But had a lovely day catching up with old friend from uni in the middle of the pennines and meeting her gorgeous new baby. One of those friends who it doesn't matter that I haven't seen for a year or so, we still chat and put the world to rights for several hours. Lovely afternoon but a lot of driving and am knackered so sofa,Wine and Silent Witness then bed for me.

nicknacks you are putting the rest of us to shameWinkGrin I interpret fuck friday as the only day of the week you are supposed to indulge in such activities. Better not let DH see this threadWink.
