Choosing a washing machine.

If you could choose any washing machine what one would you buy?

A Bosch. Like the one I just have. It was from ebay but still a Bosch . I suppose if money was no object it would be a Miele.

Why?

We just bought the Samsung Ecobubble. It takes 12kg . Its great.

Just wondering what other people think is the best out there.

Have had great success with Bosch and Miele. A washer repair man told me not to bother with anything else as they're "made to be disposable".

Luckily we've picked them up second hand.

It's 4 years old and never had one but trouble with it

I was told the same by an engineer who came to fix my hot point years ago only to go with Bosch or Miele and his words are true

I had the bosch exxcel 8 but found it to fade the knees on trousers, don't know if it was the cycle I was using but mainly used the mixed wash and the darks cycle

We recently bought a Samsung ecobubble too. It came with a free samsung tablet and it plays a jolly little tune when it is finished. What more could you ask for? O and it washes pretty well too!

I only use the power wash for dark clothes 30c if there not that dirty 40c for sports and husband and DS work clothes, power wash on a 40c for coloured wash and a cotton 90c wash for whites never noticed any fading

I agree with Zola, cheap ones are made to break, if you have the money get a good one, it is less of a pain in the backside in the long run.

Because we have been completely skint we have always bought cheap ones, (the last one was a hotpoint aquarius). The last three have all lasted just under 2 years. There is only me and DH here so it is only 2 or 3 loads a week.

It is ridiculous when you think of the materials involved that are just going to end up in landfill, the shipping over from the far east etc.

My next door neighbour has a Miele she has had for 12 years, same number of washes per week. It has now cost less than the 5 machines we have bought since being here, with none of the breakdown hassles we have had.

We couldnt afford to buy a good one so rather than buy another shit one we bought a Miele second hand off gumtree, just couldn't bear to keep buying them and chucking them out all the time.

I was the same Armadale!! God knows how many machines I've been through in 18 years! Bosch has been best buy ever

Our Hotpoint Aquarius wasn't exactly 'cheap', about £400 nearly 4 years ago. And is completely fucked.

We are getting a second hand Bosch tomorrow.

Bosch -( Exxcell 7kg 1400) - My repair man recommended Bosch!..
Bosch is good value for money - always do well in Which reviews - as do Miele but not sure if they are really worth the £100s more for a similar spec...)
They do three levels - classixx, exxcel, and Logixx - classixx are just a bit more basic ...Exxcell are the mid range - unless you really want the extra features probably not worth getting Logixx

Do have minor niggles - like unless you do an almost 2hr white wash wash you can't do a 1400 spin! -but love the fact it lets you stop it and open the door for most of the cycle -if you find a dropped a sock or want to chuck something in at end for just a rinse/spin)
All my white goods -and oven and hob - are Bosch - all no problems, all well used and more than 2 yrs old (apart from a Beko fridge freezer - cos at the time Bosch only did frost free freezers - and I was told by a fridge repair man not to get frost free - it was a stop gap but actually has been trouble free for the last 6 yrs!)
Bosch (used to at least) bring out their 'updated ' models in April -so if you search around on line you can get the previous years model at a really good discount - and often they haven't really changed much...
Can't remember exactly how it works but they just change a letter or something in the model number -so just note the model number you want in march and search for it in mid-April/May ....places like currys etc will probably come up with the newer model nos - look a bit further down the search results and the older model cheaper ones should come up ...
(Oven I got was just over £1000 -but I could have got the previous years model for £700 -just missed out by dithering around too much and worried about storing it for a month waiting for kitchen refit!)

Thanks for all your advice. I can't understand why people sell off good machines at such cheap prices on ebay ect... why would you get rid of such a good working machine? It makes me think something must be wrong with them.

We're getting a new machine this weekend. Because he does the repairs himself, DH spent a lot of time researching the makes with the best reputation. Unfortunately, the Siemens model he chose was discontinued, so I've ordered a Bosch. However, it turns out they're actually made by the same company anyway . . .

We've got the basic range Bosch - the Classixx 1400 Express. It is brilliant, no issues at all in the seven years we have had it. We do about 8-10 loads a week.

My Miele is 11 years old and going strong. It did need a new heating element and a wire replaced, but spend less than £150 on these repairs. When the old thing finally goes, I hope to get a new me. They are fab.

Miele. My parents have one which is over 20 years old. I think my mum is waiting for it to die so she can get one with a faster spin...it shows no signs of giving up yet

Is Siemens good then LadyMud? What model was he looking at as I have had my eye on one too. They are more expensive than Bosch, I wonder why that is?
