Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

Friday Links

Babystep 20 - include laundry in your routines . Remember "nothing says I love you more than clean underwear"

Mission - clean the bathroom floor and teach the DCs abut hotspots. For those without DCs - it's a 27 fling boogie.

ANd here, is a little motivational essay on decluttering essay as it is easy to let it all creep back in again.

Zing - thank you too, it has been nice having you on the thread. You could read the link on decluttering before you flutter away!

whoknows it could also simply come down to personality too. it is so hard to figure it all out sometimes. We are currently having the arguement with ds about tidy making him calmer he is determined that he likes tidy (actually he is far less stress when it is tidy) the issue is that he is 8 and hates to tidy up Grin

Well I was going to have an early night but the tv is showing a film i have wanted to see for ages so i am going to pick up my hook and just multitask. might even get this project nearly finished. that would count as decluttering right?

GoingGoingGoth · 19/09/2013 22:23

Evening all, proactive day in the kitchen, so the naughty corner is stocked up Grin

Chocolate cake , mint choc cup cakes, cheese straws, scones, bread, leek & potato soup, & roasted butternut squash for the next batch of soup, and a LOT of washing up.

BlueEyeshadow · 19/09/2013 22:56

Mm, sounds good, Goth.

Today I have achieved errands day, laundry and wrestled a recalcitrant text full of management gobbledegook into submission.

Tomorrow I might actually do some flying...

Night all!

elliepac · 20/09/2013 06:29

Morning all. Have just about managed to survive my crazy week which culminates today in DH's birthday and a family meal out tonight.

Did a crisis clean downstairs last night which means we can actually see floors and surfaces now but that is about it flying wise.

Waves to everybody.Smile Welcome shannara (history course sounds fab, am a history teacher and did a module at uni plus dissertation on women in history...fascinating stuff) and bye to zing, good luck with the declutteringSmile.

Engelsemama · 20/09/2013 09:05

Morrning all. Haven't caught up with thread (quelle surprise!). Just staggering out of another week of work.

Had colleagues over for food last night so lounge looks superficially tidy as all clutter was shunted away out of sight of guests. Perfe opportunity to declutter rather than plonking it back where it was (if I can remember where I hid everything). Kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it. Plus parents arriving tomorrow for a week (not staying with us but still! ).

Ta da
Started work on decluttering the fridge (cold pizza and dip for breakfast)
Tablecloth in the wash

To do
Washing up
Washing
Washing away ironing
Tidy/sort lounge clutter

GoingGoingGoth · 20/09/2013 09:52

Morning,

Engels you'll be finding things for weeks! Grin I know I do.

Today I will be mostly doing paperworkMN and laundry, I know I should do a load today, but the weather has been awful, and rather than dry in the house , I've waited to today when it's meant to be dry.

Done
Morning routines, now includes clearing condensation off windows Sad
Dd to school
1 load laundry washed & hung out
2 load laundry in

BBL, hope you all have a good day.

BitchytheGreat · 20/09/2013 10:17

ToffeeWhirl · 20/09/2013 11:02

Have asked MN to delete the above post, thanks to my 13-year-old son's idea of a joke. Thanks, DS1 .

Went to bed early last night and feel more tired than ever today. How does that work? Confused

Anyway, CBA to rewrite my 'ta da' list, but I am sticking to my routines and I still have a shiny kitchen, so all's well in the Toffee household.

PositiveAttitude · 20/09/2013 11:11

Toffee sorry, but DS1 has made me chuckle!! Grin

Anyway, I am not really here.....I am upstairs sorting through the Dump area...... If I don't appear within a few hours please send a search party!

Trazzletoes · 20/09/2013 11:13

Hi there Toffeewhatever

We are still under hospital-arrest but hoping to be home this afternoon. God only knows what state the house will be in

ToffeeWhirl · 20/09/2013 11:19

Hurray! Post gone! Thank you, MNHQ.

BitchytheGreat · 20/09/2013 11:50

Ds1 also made me chuckle but I am afraid I did contact mn about it. Hopefully it helped it go poof quicker.

Instead of unning around like a fruit loop, I decided to get a grip and sat down with internet and hook. Currently piecing together the squares. Will need to get more wool so i can complete the blanket as there isn't enough squares and i need more for edging anyway. Going to grab lunch and a shower and head out to continue with crazy busy. Hopefully this hour of calm will prevent burn out later. Hmm

Steamedcabbage · 20/09/2013 11:54

Wotcha fledglings!

[Hangs around Goth's kitchen door looking hopefully at the leek and potato soup and scones....]

[Swigs Bitchy's special brew]

I am still sitting in a dust pit Sad The worse thing is that it is all over my boxes of (uncovered) files and papers ... and it's coal and lime mortar dust ... Quite demoralising actually. And the fact that I had to inadvertently let a friend in to the boudoir yesterday (unavoidable circs - her daughter was trying on some of dd's old clothes) and although in my eyes it's much tidier than it has been in years, it was obviously, through her eyes, still quite messy Blush

Whoknows/Bitchy thanks for insights ... I can see how complicated it must be sorting out the traits ... and even worse when it comes to explaining all this to so-called professionals ... dcs don't fit in to square, prescribed boxes.

Elliepac Happy Birthday to your dh! Hope you have a lovely celebration and that you can finally get some r & r at the we after your hectic wk! DD history lessons v. different over here ...no Tudors of course (sad) and second WW dates = 1940-43!! Smile

Engels glad you survived colleagues dinner! Hope it went well! Guests (ones that are not too familiar preferably) are the best motivators!! Hope you have a lovely wk with your parents

Glad you are feeling better Jemima

After a morning of office billing, I'm fighting the desire to run out of the house and go and do something more interesting instead ... but I am going to do car and handbag sort , do some office billing and tend to boudoir. Can't face worse of dust yet.

Looking forward to weekend though - it's car-free day here on Sunday - city v. quiet with 'holiday atmosphere' everyone walking, bicycling, riding or pogo-sticking their way around what would normally traffic islands and huge junctions congested with traffic! Tis great! Grin

Steamedcabbage · 20/09/2013 12:02

Eugh - sorry - loads of errors in last post - rushing - meant to say 'more' office billing and 'what would normally be traffic islands' ...heigh ho ...

and bugger! Took so long to write it, that I missed Toffeesds1s post! [Waves anyway!] TAke it steady Toffee

Huge wing flaps to Trazzles (have a lovely weekend at home) and to PA (good luck in Dump.. have set the timer!)

ToffeeWhirl · 20/09/2013 12:11

Thanks, Bitchy. It took 20 minutes to go pouf and I was getting twitchy, so maybe you helped. DS1 thinks it was hilarious Hmm.

SC - sorry about all the dust. As if you needed more work to do Sad. Your comment about your bedroom rings true with me too. I realised yesterday that it was probably not normal never to let anyone see our bedroom because it is so untidy.

The car-free day sounds wonderful, by the way.

I have a first-world problem: my cleaner used one of my Liz Earle muslin cloths to clean the bathroom. Have had to throw it away Sad.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/09/2013 12:20

Ahh, missed it. What did he say? Someone pm me please?

Another errand day here. Several items of wrong size clothing to take back to shops, a charity shop browse and a visit to the local secondary school open morning (DS is only yr5, but with the ASD I am worried about secondary school already). Felt reasonably happy with what I found, but will have to go back with a lot more questions at some point.

The perils of decluttering have arisen here. When DS was born, DH bought a complete set of Mr Men books on Ebay, he ioved 3 or 4 of them, the rest were dire, so last year, after no one having so much as looked at them for 2 or 3 years, I charity shopped most of them. DD has found the remaining ones and is loving them and begging me to buy some more. Grrr. So, had a quick browse in the library and charity shops this morning and found a big compilation volume for £2, hope that will do. The little ones are so nice and easy to hold, but I'm not forking out for them again.

Toffee - just noticed your last line there - I would sack her, surely that's gross misconduct Grin.

Trazzletoes · 20/09/2013 12:22

sc don't get too excited. Dr has just been and said we can leave in a couple of hours but must come back if J gets a temp. His medicine this week gives him fevers. I want to cry. In fact, no, I am crying.

I don't want him on antibiotics again for no reason. They make him so poorly. And it's upsetting for him and upsetting for all of us. For no fucking reason.

Consultant earlier in the week said she wouldn't make him come back in tonight. Registrar said there's no need for him to come back. Today's consultant says he needs to come back. And then we 're at the mercy of the night doctors.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/09/2013 12:24

Trazzle. That sucks.

OP posts:
NickNacks · 20/09/2013 12:27

Went to see my sil (read best friend) last night and she told me some fan bloody tastic news that I can't stop grinning about. am sure you can all guess! It's 3rd time this year so am really hoping that this one is a keeper with all the heartbreaks they've had so far.

Happy days! :)

NickNacks · 20/09/2013 12:29

X posts so sorry trazzles.

I look like a twat now with my cheery post after missing yours. Sorry :(

Trazzletoes · 20/09/2013 12:30

No you don't NickNacks that's wonderful news! So hoping it works out for them x

ToffeeWhirl · 20/09/2013 12:31

Oh, Trazzles, I'm sorry. I hope you and Joe get some time at home now.

NickNacks - lovely news Smile

WhoKnows - ha, gross misconduct, yes indeed! As for DS1's addition to my post - I'm not telling Wink.
