I keep seeing people mentioning this.

Which part of the supermarket do you get it from - vinegar or cleaning?

I am being really thick I'm sure but don't want to end up making washing smell of a chip shop Grin.

do they have an online shop?

Papillon · 24/06/2006 08:01

Thanks MrsDoolittle for the info about carpets... will try the vinegar soon. Sick of baking powder and toothbrush!

TooTicky · 24/06/2006 13:44

fransmom, they don't have an online shop. Melksham is in west Wiltshire, about 10-ish miles from Bath. I'm just trying to plug it a bit as I think a lot of local people still don't know about it (it's been open since Easter) and it's such a great venture.

Vinegar is an awesome cleaning product and cheap to boot!

Here is a blog that has TONS of recipes and things to do with vinegar.

Sodium Borate

wrinklytum · 21/01/2007 23:24

OK,acidic cleaning product then.Sorry.

OLIVEBRANCH · 22/01/2007 12:47

Can anyone tell me, do you clean the kitchen and bathroom etc.. with just the white vinegar diluted or do you use Borax as well? Is Borax safe to use with no side effects?? As i prefer to use no chemicals or harmful substances at all. Thanks for your advice.

OLIVEBRANCH · 22/01/2007 22:57

ANYONE???

jessianelly · 23/01/2007 09:05

White vinegar is best for glass and mirror cleaning, surface cleaning, laundry and stain removal and lime scale - bathroom tiles etc. Not to be used on metal plated surfaces though such as gold plated taps.
Borax is best used for adding to dishwater to remove grease, cleaning sinks and drains and can be used in with the washing or for stain removal. The dripak borax explains it all on the back. It just says users with sensitive skin should wear gloves.
For everything else (including kitchen surfaces as i dont really like the vinegar smell in the kitchen!) I use spray soda crystals (not for aluminium though)
The money i used to waste on all those chemical mr muscle, fairy liquid, different sprays and liquids etc all animal tested, polluting to the environment and to us!! Now I save a fortune by buying liquid soda crystals, white vinegar, borax, bicarbonate of soda, Faith in nature washing up liquid and laundry gel, soap nuts and powdered soda crystals to keep drains clear. It is all a lot more environmentally friendlier and not tested on animals. I get all mine from www.whocares.gb.com

Sorry, forgot to add this info on borax:
Borax is a natural mineral compound. Discovered over 4000 years ago. It is usually found deep within the ground, and has numerous industrial uses.
In the home Borax is used as a natural laundry booster, multi-purpose cleaner, disinfectant and desiccant. The crystals are odourless. and can be mixed with most other cleaning agents, including chlorine bleach.

Don't use Borax around food, keep it out of reach of children and pets, and make sure you rinse borax out of clothes and off surfaces before use
