White vinegar

I keep seeing people mentioning this.

Which part of the supermarket do you get it from - vinegar or cleaning?

I am being really thick I'm sure but don't want to end up making washing smell of a chip shop Grin.

ooooh, I used it to wash my towels and they are softer.

What fab stuff!

Next, I shall clean ds's mildewy bath toys...

FourJays · 20/06/2006 12:41

And it works on carpets? We have cream carpets and I seem to spend my life on my hands and kness with the bloody vanish in one hand. And it does leave a mark. So what do I do? Just put it in a spray gun?

ProfYaffle · 20/06/2006 13:15

Morrisons also have the distilled white vinegar. I use it everywhere, it's a disinfectant so I use it on dd's high chair, chopping board, wiping kitchen sides, cleaning up after cat sick/poo etc etc

Fab for cleaning glass, descaling the kettle and cleaning chrome in the bathroom (wipe it on with a damp cloth and dry with kitchen roll)

onlytheone · 20/06/2006 13:27

I was told it would clean the soap scum off the shower tiles, but it has not made any difference.
Anyone else using it for this purpose?

Tinker · 20/06/2006 13:30

Where is it in Morrisons? Never know where to look for this stuff.

ProfYaffle · 20/06/2006 13:41

It's with the vinegar in Morrisons, has a purple label, 47p per bottle.

MrsDoolittle · 20/06/2006 14:04

Fourjays - Yes it does work on carpets!!
I juts make up the ratios. I start with half water, half vinegar and use more vinegar if I need to.
With blood spots I use mostly vinegar.
With the coffee stains, I used loads of vinegar and yes it did smell. I opened the doors and the smell does go away. I'd rather that than have the stain left tbh.

EmmyLou · 20/06/2006 14:25

I have used it in the bath along with baking soda to help soothe chicken pox itches. MIL's recommendation as FIL has bad allergic skin flare ups and uses same method to get relief from itching.

sunchowder · 20/06/2006 19:07

I have a book I bought on things to do with vinegar!!! It is the only thing I use to clean my ceramic tiles with--I never use any cleansers on it.

squarer · 20/06/2006 20:19

Moving off the vinegary theme of this thread, but nevertheless an alternative use for a common substance - MrsDoolittle - sod the vinegar for blood spots - try cows milk. It works like magic!
(There's a distinct possibility you might tell me vinegar works in the same way, but after seeing cows milk do its stuff I am in awe!!)

But you'd have to clean the milk off then, wouldn't you?
Unless the shower gel and shampooo have bleached carpet, I'm pretty sure that vinegar would work. That's what I would do.

you are supposed to be able to rinse with vinegar to help get rice of lice.nits as well (haven't tried it yet ! )

squarer · 21/06/2006 20:17

I just rinsed the milk through Mrs Doolittle.
I have only tried milk on relatively fresh blood Mummypumpkin - my partner had a nose bleed and managed to bleed on DS's clothes. All it took was a dribble, enough to cover it and watch it go! I will be trying it on old stains now I have "discovered" it, though I suspect it won't work as well.

tenalady · 21/06/2006 20:28

great neat on grass stains too.

fadgewash · 21/06/2006 21:28

ooh, what is tenalady... milk or vinegar????

fransmom · 21/06/2006 22:36

where do i get borax from?

noddyholder · 21/06/2006 22:39

Also use it with tesco or asda value white face flannels about 20p for cleaning it is as good as those micro cloth thingies

shazronnie · 22/06/2006 13:51

fransmom - I buy Borax in Wilkinson - it is 79p a box.

fransmom · 23/06/2006 22:00

never thought of wilko's!

daisy1999 · 23/06/2006 22:05

I used it to clean the kettle - filled about a fifth or less full with vinegar and put on to boil. When I went back in the kitchen it had overflowed everywhere

TooTicky · 23/06/2006 22:07

For anybody near Melksham, Who Cares is an ethical fairtrade supermarket with a great selection of natural cleaning products including whopping great bottles of vinegar and refilling service. Avonside Business Park, New Broughton Road. Go there! It's a fab shop that deserves our support! They also have a play area for young children.

fransmom · 23/06/2006 22:13

tt, do have online shop? no idea where melksham is .......
