What flooring is in your bathroom?

motherofvikings · 02/07/2013 15:05

I'm getting rid of the carpets! :)
There's a family bathroom, ensuite and downstairs loo to refloor. The rooms themselves are totally white and plain so there are a lot of possibilities!

What have you got?
Would you recommend it?
Was it expensive?

Oh and if you're in the East Midlands then any recommendations would be great! :)

Slate effect tiles. Not reccomended - look great but an absolute pig to scrub the white soap / toothpaste spots out of.

lollylaughs · 02/07/2013 15:09

Tiles. They are freezing in winter!

FanjoPaterson · 02/07/2013 15:10

White tiles.
Half way up the walls, all across the floor.
Perfect. Just mop them every so often. Heat lamps to offset to cold.

valiumredhead · 02/07/2013 15:11

Marble, love it !

Rattitude · 02/07/2013 15:13

I have beautiful metallic Tau tiles with grey grout. I would recommend them. Yes, they are colder than other types of flooring but I wear slippers, and there is a bath mat so I am not exposed to a cold flooring.

Tiles are hygienic and easy to clean. Tau tiles are expensive. I got mine in Doncaster, from the Doncaster Tile Centre (if I recall correctly). They were much cheaper there than anywhere else in the NW of England.

Blue Amtico tiles. Warm underfoot and easy to clean, win win.

Pootles2010 · 02/07/2013 16:12

Wood effect 'rhino floor' its like lino, but like cat says, really quite nice. You can afford to spend more because its a small room, imo.

We paid £60 for the flooring, £40 for blokes to fit it, which was essential - dp is good at diy, but crap at laying floors! It looks perfect, so easy to clean, nice & warm underfoot too.

motherofvikings · 02/07/2013 16:13

Hmmm.

I don't think I want tiles tbh as I hate my feet being cold.

What is amtico? Is it just a brand?

I'm thinking maybe vinyl as it will be easy to clean and not so cold. Confused

Pootles - is rhino floor another brand?

OP posts:
Pootles2010 · 02/07/2013 16:18

Yeah Rhino floor is a brand. Its hardwearing, as name suggests!

Weegiemum · 02/07/2013 16:18

Lino in main bathroom.

Mosaic tiles in downstairs loo and e suite.

In our I sound so posh sorry last house we keep as a holiday rental/for our hols it's limestone tiles with electric underfloor element. Soooo good!

Fairylea · 02/07/2013 16:22

We have lino. We brought very cheap off cuts from carpetright (we paid £24 for the upstairs one!!) And I fit it myself :) .. very easy to do, just draw a template of your floor by spreading out newspaper sellotaped together and spread it out and draw an outline. Then cut this out and use it to cut round the lino. Then use double sided tape or carpet spray glue. Works a treat. Have done this for the last twenty years in many houses!

daisydoodoo · 02/07/2013 16:24

Tile effect lino. Its warm underfoot and easy to clean.

BackforGood · 02/07/2013 16:25

We used to have painted white floorboards (was what was down when we moved in) but they never looked completely clean and never looked right after a plumber lifted two to look under the floor.
We laid lino on top and it's much easier to keep clean and is nice and warm and soft underfoot.

onelittlepiglet · 02/07/2013 16:33

We used to have rubber floor tiles and they were great. Warm to stand on, easy to clean, looked nice etc. they were really good.

Gone back to renting so just have Lino now.

MothershipG · 02/07/2013 16:36

Amtico glass in one and their white with glitter in the other.

motherofvikings · 02/07/2013 16:57

MothershipG - I LOVE those! :)
Is amtico expensive stuff or a faff to have fitted (by a professional not me or dh!)

Got a case of the want-ies but worried its over budget! Confused

DuelingFanjo · 02/07/2013 16:58

marble tiles, not very nice in winter but despite my objections at the time they look great. We used to have painted wood.

valiumredhead · 02/07/2013 18:02

Pipes run under our marble floor so they are toasty warm!

MothershipG · 02/07/2013 22:22

Amtico is expensive and even more so if you use an approved fitter, but both my bathrooms are small and I just got whatever builder was to hand to lay them and they've been fine.

FunnysInLaJardin · 02/07/2013 22:24

tiles with a white company huge bathmat that doubles as a rug and can be washed!

motherofvikings · 03/07/2013 08:49

Bugger about the amtico being so expensive.

Something white/ light with sparkles would be great though! :) if anyone's slotted something like that please point me in the right direction! :)

OP posts:
HollaAtMeBaby · 03/07/2013 19:42

I want the sparkly white as well! Just spoke to these guys - they have it for £53/square metre.

RoooneyMara · 03/07/2013 19:47

big thick floor tiles. marbley effect.
Downside was I had to lay 12mm of WBT ply, and screw it down every 2-3 inches all over, and glue it.

I did 9mm first then had to do another 3mm. Cutting it was fairly tricky. And it took ages.

but it is nice now it's done.
