July's Fledgling Flyers: Summer holidays are on their way and the clutter is going to FLY away

elliepac · 30/06/2013 20:33

Welcome old and new fledglings to the July Fledgling FLYers thread!

Thank you very much to cpmpy for leading us expertly through June- it's been a while since I lead so I can't promise to be as efficient but will do my best Grin. This will start by copying and pasting pmpy's original June postGrin

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month

Boo. I want Wine.

obrigada · 22/07/2013 14:22

Thanks for the welcome ladies; the master/main bedroom is where my brother and his wife will be staying so timely move by me to join ye today:)

ToffeeWhirl · 22/07/2013 14:31

(Sorry it's only virtual Sad)

obrigada - My bedroom is in a sorry state too as it's the dumping ground for the rest of the house.

Trazzletoes · 22/07/2013 14:45

Thanks Toffee.

Too exhausted yesterday to fly.

Back in hospital today til tomorrow night so no flying today either.

I'm not doing so well Grin

CHBitchy · 22/07/2013 14:46

I can do the fri and the weekend if it will help.

I have spent the day doing stuff for me. Stuff to help me cope with everything. Ds, needless to say has exploded everything out of his system and is now coping with life again. I just can't cope with this way he uses to cope. need to chase up something camhs suggested when i have found the bit of paper i wrote it on which i abandoned somewhere in disgust after the rest of the meeting

I have done fuck all flying today. And tbh as i didn't sleep last night i feel like shit. Really looking forward to an early night too.

elliepac · 22/07/2013 15:09

Thanks toffeeSmile and chb too but I will be OK to do the weekendSmile.

Just back from induction at gym. I have used muscles I didn't know I had, particularly in the arse. Suspect I may be crippled tomorrow!

Now have a massive unFLYlike list to do for the rest of the day:-
Tidy whole house
Washing
Pack
Dinner
Collapse
Wine.

ToffeeWhirl · 22/07/2013 15:52

Very impressed that you managed to do any exercise at all in this heat, ellie.

Bitchy - I'm really sorry CAMHS aren't helping you more with this, as they should be doing Angry.

Trazzle - do you mean you're not doing so well with Flying? If anyone's off the hook, you certainly are.

DS2 has a friend round to play. I was going to take them out, but it's actually too hot. They just want to stay indoors and cool off which gives me the perfect excuse to sit down and browse on MN without feeling guilty.

Just broke it to DS2 that he is having swimming lessons every morning next week. He is not best pleased. Apparently, he is going to be a traffic cop and thinks they don't need to learn to swim Hmm.

Swanhilda · 22/07/2013 19:20

It is too hot to go out. Which is why I now feel knackered having been out several times!!!

I had a really nice if slightly pointless day cruising sweating the public transport network back and forward between Hillingdon, my local area and Uxbridge, and getting to know the local bus network. Uxbridge has a lovely shopping centre, but I wasn't really in the mood to shop, so I went home in the end and then had to trek back again at 4.00 and ended up late for pickup at 5.30 (was meant to be 5.00) We took a taxi home in the end [sigh] with children screeching at each other in the back seat. Taxi driver had a pained look on his face as if to say He would NEVER LET HIS CHILDREN SPEAK LIKE THAT TO HIM OR EACH OTHER.

And they had a fantastic time sailing/sculling. Ds1 complained the whole way there this morning and was in tears last night and this morning that he wouldn't be able to do it, but he was incredibly chipper by lunchtime and enjoying capsizing his boat over and over again!!!Grin So, fingers crossed it is a good activity for my dysfunctional children. DD loved it, but she is pretty good at team stuff.

pushmepullyou · 22/07/2013 21:25

It's not hot here. Warmish but no more than that. I feel cheated!

Ta da
Routines
Washing machine on
Whing away
Room rescue DD room
Room rescue DS room
Room rescue our room
Room rescue living room
Room rescue kitchen

To do
Online shop
Meal plan
10 mins of ankle strengthening exercises
Sort out apple ID so the Ipad starts speaking to me again

BBL once I've done those!

saturn · 22/07/2013 21:44

Hi Smile can I join you? Only read to page 11 of the thread, but so inspired by you all I'm going to shine my sink right now...day 1 of baby steps for me!

Will aim to read the rest of the thread tomorrow night and get dressed to shoes as soon as I get up in the morning...that will be tough, like to potter around a bit first and then end up rushing because we're running late Blush

ToffeeWhirl · 22/07/2013 22:40

Hello, Saturn. Glad we are so inspiring Grin.

Sorry to admit, though, that I have done very little Flying this evening, as it really was just too hot. DH and I drank wine in the garden instead.

Night all.

pushmepullyou · 22/07/2013 22:43

Hi saturn, of course you can Smile, jump right in! Getting dressed to shoes is ignored by many of us - me included!

Fully ta-da'd here, apart from the ankle exercises, which I shall do on the way to bed.

Too tired for personals I'm afraid, night all Smile. I will try to catch up properly tomorrow!

BlueEyeshadow · 22/07/2013 23:02

Evening.

Ta da!
Scrubbed yucky drawer on washing machine
Shopping
Baking
Cooking
Sweeping/swatting/stomping ants and flying ants. Bleugh.

Too hot and too much work on for anything else.

Waves to Saturn and obrigada, and to everyone else. Need to shut the window before the moths get in, but it's too hot. Supposed to be raining tomorrow - and all next week when we're on hols. Boo!

Trazzletoes · 22/07/2013 23:07

Hi Saturn and Obrigada! (One of my favourite words, as it happens..)

I don't fly, I just chat.

Yes, I did mean earlier that I haven't succeeded with flying recently. I should probably manage the odd 15 mins though (no one else is going to do it for me...) but I can't be fussed. Too tired.

Swanhilda · 22/07/2013 23:10

sighs. Oh dear, I've done none of what you lot have.
neither wine nor rescuing.

However I did watch (brightens up) a bit of Undercover Boss where the council deputy pretended to be a street cleaner. Insightful stuff. Reminded me that women are never too grand to be practical. We are practical through and through.

done
rinsed through some clothes for tomorrow's sailing
argued with dh about ambitions for the dcs Hmm

the cleaning lady came today so I've given up really. She made some delicious stew too Smile so that should last a few days.

Upstairs is irredemable though. I soaked the loo seat in the bath, and removed some dirty clothes from dcs room, that's all....

Castlelough · 23/07/2013 00:54

Just popping on to congratulate you all on your new little prince! Smile

Flying has been cast by the wayside here in the beautiful weather, but I'm hoping to get back on track tomorrow.
Hope everyone is well!
xxx
Castle

pushmepullyou · 23/07/2013 07:07

Omg, woken up by the most dramatic thunderstorm I've seen in years! Typically it is the only day this year that I've arranged to go out on site and do actual fieldwork!

To do
Bedroom declutter
Finances
Laundry
Ironing
Mop kitchen floor

elliepac · 23/07/2013 09:04

Morning all. Am Envy of all this talk of thunderstorms. We apparently had a massive one last night and I slept through it all. It's still ridiculously muggy here though!

Have done the school run like a proper mum which was quite nice and have a big list for today.

To do :-
3 hours to clean and tidy the whole house as best I can
Gym
Sainsburys
Pack
Drive to Snowdonia

That will do methinks. Back in a sec with round-up and links.

OP posts:
elliepac · 23/07/2013 09:13

Your round-up for yesterday looks like this :-

castle popped by to wish us congratulations on the little prince and is using the weather as a excuse not to fly.......me too, if it's snowing it's too cold, if it's raining can't do washing, if it's sunny it's too hot...that's why I still haven't conquered the babysteps after 4 years Grin.

swan has a cleaning lady who cooks.......I want one of those..oh hang on..it's me!

trazzles made the startling revelation that she doesn't fly, just chats. Which isn't that startling really as that applies to a lot of us. I have these images of all of you in lovely houses, flying properly when I live in a small hovel that eve when I fly looks like a slightly cleaner hovel.

blue is also too hot and is busy fly swatting. Nothing quite as satisfying as a clean hit and squish Grin.

pmpy was woke by the mother of all thunderstorms and had a successful day yesterday. I am going to channel pmpy today Grin.

saturn and obrigda joined us Smile. Welcome to the madness. Glad we have inspired you.....shame I ca't inspire myself WinkGrin.

toffee was also too hot and solved this by drinking wine..the perfect solution in any give situation I find.

chb did fuck all flying. Glad DS has got it out of his system Smile.

elliepac did fuck all flying too. Went to the gym, killed my arse, went shopping, killed my bank account and went out for lunch, killing my diet. Today is another day and all that Grin.

OP posts:
saturn · 23/07/2013 09:14

Morning all!

Well first ta da last night...shined my sink. Amazingly DD (age 5) emptied dishwasher for me, she has never done that before...long may it continue!

Didn't make me smile this morning like Flylady said it would as H had already used it.

Pushme - really did not like getting dressed to shoes as soon as I got up this morning. Like I mentioned yesterday usually like to potter around a bit and come round first. Asked DD to get dressed as soon as she got up as well and that didn't go down well as she likes to eat breakfast first. However, we were both ready and managed to leave the house on time with no rushing and the usual morning chaos...so maybe Flylady is onto something here!

We were actually waiting outside for holiday club to open and I arrived in work early. Anyway, this is only my day 2 so tonight:

Shine sink and lay out new tea towel and dishcloth
Read rest of thread from page 11
Shower

Hope everyone has a good day Smile

obrigada · 23/07/2013 09:15

Was too warm and muggy to do much last night when I came home from work but did manage to bag up some clothes that have not seen the light of day for a long time; brought them to the charity bin on way to work this morning.

elliepac · 23/07/2013 09:17

Your babystep for today is creating an afternoon routine.

Your mission for today is here.

Tuesday is planning day.

Have a good day everyone Smile.

OP posts:
saturn · 23/07/2013 09:24

Ellie - cross posts - I slept through thunderstorm too. Your round up made me laugh. As I am sat at my desk supposedly working this was not good and had to try and turn it into a cough...not very successfully and attracted a few strange looks Grin

elliepac · 23/07/2013 09:27

Grin saturn.

And fwiw, I can never be arsed to get dressed to lace-up shoes. This issue causes much debate. I too am a potterer and am far more productive in my pj's than I am dressed. Evidenced by the fact I have been up and dressed for 3 hours and done fuck all so far.Grin.

OP posts:
elliepac · 23/07/2013 10:34

Am going to ta da post a lot today to keep me going.

Ta da:-
Loving room tidied, polished and hoovered
Dining room tidied, polished and hoovered

Washing on
Kitchen surfaces cleared and wiped down
Cupboards wiped down
Coffee break.
