July's Fledgling Flyers: Summer holidays are on their way and the clutter is going to FLY away

elliepac · 30/06/2013 20:33

Welcome old and new fledglings to the July Fledgling FLYers thread!

Thank you very much to cpmpy for leading us expertly through June- it's been a while since I lead so I can't promise to be as efficient but will do my best Grin. This will start by copying and pasting pmpy's original June postGrin

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month

Oh, congrats, PA and to your DD3 of course. :)

Swanhilda · 17/07/2013 12:19

oh, I posted, but it went awry because Mumsnet went offline suddenly.

Done
electrician has resolved RCD problem, and warned me never to clean out the fridge without turning it off FIRST! Grin Very expensive fridge clean last week then!

took entire contents of utility room out and cleaned behind fridge, and found evidence of MICE!!! And what are those pesky cats doing I may say, whilst these mice are warming themselves at the back of fridge? They are chasing butterflies in the garden and draping themselves over the furniture in darkened rooms.
Back to work mice catchers AngrySmile
Alright, it is my fault for leaving cake crumbs.

Bitchy tis the way they work. Unless there are serious issues which are causing immediate concern they will always put you on the back burner. The good news is that you usually can get a much quicker referral for specific problems when you have seen them once, even if you are officially discharged. A friend told me this had happened to her, but when her son had a flareup of existing chronic problems (anxiety/stress at secondary) he was seen v swiftly. She had to go through GP to get back to CAHMS but it was much much quicker, and they already knew the case. That is in our borough.

It is a strange system, because it is essentially firefighting. I can only assume that some people had much greater problems and that was why we were discharged. I think they rely on parental management, and parenting groups to do a lot of the work rather than clinical individual sessions. Also the schools are meant to do a lot ConfusedHmm

PA my granny had the same honeymoon start to her family. She had v successful marriage and lots of children! Lucky dd3, to have you close at hand, and lucky you to have her close at hand.

I had children comparatively late, and it always gives me a jolt to realise in fact I could easily have grandchildren and be incredibly responsible and venerable Grin fount of wisdom and all that! My mum when told three grandchildren would be born over a period of March to May 11 years ago made the incredibly un-pc comment along the lines of "I can see my summer is going to be ruined busy".

Trazzles my granny was a Nonna. Although not in slightest Italian Grin She was from Basingstoke.

Swanhilda · 17/07/2013 16:19

Well my shock news today is that dd told me a boy she is keen on asked her out! She refused him!!!!! She has rushed off to her friend's house in triumph (the friend who doesn't go to same school Smile. I hasten to add that "asking out" seems to mean literally that. After that nothing happens, but it is a badge of honour to be "asked". Next year she is going to an all girls' school Confused as she particularily asked to...

done
swept terrace
sorted out some rubbish on terrace
planted two geraniums and a courgette
put stuff back into the utility room
found various people to give old uniform to

Mass this evening at school. Farewell to Primary! SadGrin
one more morning tomorrow.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/07/2013 19:02

That's very sweet Swan. When I was that age lots of boys and girls used to "go out" with each other, I'm sure all it involved was the occasional arm round shoulders in the playground. Unfortunately I wore glasses and it was several more years (and a pair of contact lenses) before I got near any boys.

Oh this heat is annoying me now. I sweat really easily and the slightest amount of exhaustion means my face is dripping, I hate, hate, hate that. We had a few drops of rain earlier but all warm and muggy again now. Also I twanged my back this morning so bending is very difficult, as is getting out of chairs, very annoying. Got to go and get DD from Brownies, back later.

CHBitchy · 17/07/2013 19:19

The antibiotics aren't working and my best friends are currently freezer bag elements. This heat is horrific and the thermometer says it is about 28C plus in my room. I feel sick. Going to hide in a cold shower. Flying? put my bedding on to wash.

PositiveAttitude · 17/07/2013 20:56

Swan - how sweet. She sounds like a very self assured, confident girl who knows exactly what she wants in life and exactly how to get it. Good on her!!

You are making me smile with your heat complaints. I have to admit I have just about shed the cardigan, but am still wearing jeans and 2 layers - t shirt and shirt! It is pleasantly warm to me. I had a message from a friend in Cambodia saying that she was wearing a jumper cos it was 25 degrees this morning on her way to work. By about 10 it would be well into the 30's again, but "chilly" this morning. All relative, I suppose!

Well, poor DD3 is taking after her mother and is throwing up everywhere and anywhere all the time. She lives 10 - 15 minutes drive away. She phoned to say that she would come to our house after her next throw up so she could make it before she needed to run to the loo again. She arrived balling her eyes out because she had driven up our road, abandoned the car in the middle of the road so that she could get her head out the car to throw up! Poor thing.....I remember it well. Only 7 more months, I suppose! I think she is already questioning the wisdom of all this.

Not much flying here today.
More of a taxi service for DD1 and DS in different directions.
Had a friend for tea tonight, so a bit of extra effort put into the meal.
I am the on-call vomit cleaner at the moment. Hmm Not too sure that grandmother duties include this, I may need to look into the job description. Wink

Only 5 days until DH goes. Sad Time is going too quickly. Maybe I will concentrate on flying after the middle of next week.

CHBitchy · 17/07/2013 21:23

I have lost my glasses. Arses. Guess I shall be doing some flying then Hmm

PA poor dd3. I remember the horror that was morning sickness well. Hope she manages to evade the hospital for dehydration in this heat. Although the anti-sickness shot they give you on admission is a blissful escape from the up-chucking.

Steamedcabbage · 18/07/2013 01:58

Hi all. Hope you are all OK.

Just typing this to try and remain calm/sane. Quite an evening.

Just back from hospital where dh was taken with suspected cardiac arrest tonight. He collapsed one hour after dinner. Ambulance with paramedics thankfully arrived within 4 mins followed by doctor. He is now stable and sitting up and talking and they've established he hasn't had major heart attack but may have had a little one or it may have been a warning attack of angina or some other cause totally. They need to take blood tests over a period of time. Poor dh Sad It turns out, he was the one who should have seen the cardiologist last week not me. I did suggest he booked himself in for a check-up but he said he was too busy Sad Anyway, looks like he is going to be ok thank heavens but could do with a few prayers right now from those of you who are so inclined - ta very much! Smile Just still a bit shaky because dh is one of those rock-like blokes who appears indestructible ...

Your poor dd3 PA that must be so miserable for her, especially in this heat

Sorry you are both feeling rough too Whoknows and Bitchy

Good on your dd Swan she sounds v. happy in her own skin! (A testament to good parenting!)

Waves to all. Going to go and tidy the boudoir now. Can't sleep...

Steamedcabbage · 18/07/2013 02:12

CHBitchy · 18/07/2013 03:00

Bloody hell SC not surprising you can't sleep. hoping it is something dh can bounce back from.

Steamedcabbage · 18/07/2013 03:04

Thanks Bitchy, hopefully he'll be OK. I'm also up because dd keeps waking up distressed. (She was asleep when it all happened but woke up half way through and then had to be bundled off to friend's while I was at hosp.

Well done on humungously long list Smile

Steamedcabbage · 18/07/2013 03:05

Hope spider permanently awol!

CHBitchy · 18/07/2013 03:08

Bless her. It is incredibly shocking to learn as a young person that your parents aren't indestructable. Hope you both manage some sleep. x

Steamedcabbage · 18/07/2013 03:25

Yes, thanks, she's been incredibly brave tonight! Smile

Going to try and get some sleep now ! HOpe you manage some shut eye too!

elliepac · 18/07/2013 06:51

Morning all. Got a little demob happy last night with there only being 2 days until summer holidays and drank more than mu standard one glass of wine on a school night rule. This has resulted in a stonking hangover this morning. Another busy day yesterday and another one ahead today but the end is in sight.

sc sending you, DH and DD all the love and prayers in the world. Must have been very scary for all of you. I hope you managed to get some sleep and that DH is ok this morning.

swan what a fantastic girl your DD soundsSmile. My DD announced yesterday that she had dumped her boyfriend because he wasn't nice and then promptly announced that she had a different one. She's 5! Am dreading the teenage years!

whoknows another one here who is melting in the heat. I am currently having to pack up the History Department due to a classroom move in September as the school is having lots of building work. This involves lugging lots of boxes and i have been sweating rather unattractively at work all week!

chb found the glasses yet? Flying may indeed be necessary!

carpe hope the hand is recovering and the hallucinations were goodWinkGrin.

pa poor DD. morning sickness sucks although I just had permanent nausea and no sickness. Hope she is ok. And congratulationsSmile.

Back in a sec with links!

CHBitchy · 18/07/2013 07:08

Ah ellie clearing the car out is on the list of stuff to do. Be warned.

elliepac · 18/07/2013 07:12

Noooooooooo chb don't do it Grin.

Your babystep for today is reading the ELeven Commandments.

Your mission for today is here.

Today is Errand Day.

Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
CHBitchy · 18/07/2013 07:55

I have the 11 commandments printed and laminated and on the back of my door perhaps i should try following them occasionally? Grin

Jdub · 18/07/2013 09:34

Crikey SC - that's shocking! At least your dh will be closely monitored from now on. Best wishes to all of you.

Flying-wise, I'm so lame!!! I'm keeping the paddling pool clean and rescuing stranded winged things from it if that counts?!

I MUST hoover (didn't get round to it - too hot!) and I MUST make dh birthday cake for the weekend (even though he doesn't much like cake - FREAK! But me and the boys do!!!)

Take care, keep cool, and have a good day xx

ToffeeWhirl · 18/07/2013 09:47

SC - Shock I'm so sorry to read about your DH. What a shock for you all. Hopefully, now that he's in hospital, he will get the tests and treatment that he needs. This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise (although you would probably rather DH discovered he had a heart condition in a rather less dramatic fashion Wink).

I hope you managed to get some sleep last night. Well done to your DD for staying so calm.

Keep us updated, please.

((hugs))

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/07/2013 10:03

SC

Swanhilda · 18/07/2013 10:09

SC what a terrible shock. Thank goodness he is sitting up in bed now - the shock will probably only hit him in a few days, at the moment he is probably just feeling relieved. It is so difficult being ill and self employed and not to push yourself. Heart attacks are so frighteningly out of the blue.

PA it may be twins!!!Shock Flowers

done
this morning I'm running around trying to make some sense of the mess before the twins break up. I also have to find some presents for the teachers...
last night we had a Leaving Mass which was delightfully relaxed, only spoiled by ds2 getting v upset when they didn't show the pictures of the school trip. However that was just on the way home. That is truly the end of Primary I can't believe it, just the thank you cards to go...

Heatwise: I think houses are much more unforgiving in the heat, any scuzziness becomes plain sordid - stares accusingly at unwashed milkbottles etc...and dust motes floating in air. It makes you realise that clutter is possibly a Northern European construct.
Whoknows I am finding my wardrobe is inadequate for this weather, and I do not suit skimpy tops.

BlueEyeshadow · 18/07/2013 10:11

How scary for you all, SC. Hope DH is on the mend now.
