Does anyone hate their washing machine?

I have had enough of my washing machine! I find modern machines don't use enough water and have longer wash times what causes more friction and wears clothes out quicker. Does anyone else find this happening?

napkin I have the Bosch logixx 8 1400 express. Here. It's a good machine except the over zealous balance protection. :)

Thanks everyone for giving me some models to look at Grin

bonsoir I use Sainsburys non-bio where I can (allergy issues) and always do a 40 degree wash. I did the same with my old one (Bosch) and didn't have this problem. I am often reduced to literally scraping off bits of dirt off my clothes with a fingernail which, once this item has been vigorously juddered about in soapy water for almost two hours, I find a bit odd!

If anyone has any tips then grateful to hear them. Funnily enough I try the odd much hotter wash and don't find it makes much of a difference.

ParsingFancy · 13/03/2013 17:19

Mm, is that newly deposited dirt, drjohnsonscat?

When I haven't done a maintenance wash for a while, I get little bits of black gunk from the nether regions of the machine adhering to clothes.

They clear up a couple of washes after a maintenance wash, so I think the hot water dislodge the yuk it but it takes a while to make its way out.

Useful info: here, though I think the articles may be out of date wrt powders.

drjohnsonscat · 13/03/2013 18:58

yes this is bits of food smeared by my children over things (usually) rather than anything from the machine itself. It's frustrating because it comes off perfectly easily - with a fingernail. Just not with a two hour wash cycle!

Bonsoir · 13/03/2013 19:15

You should talk to the manufacturer - that is not normal!

VerySmallSqueak · 13/03/2013 19:19

Our Bosch is good.
Some nice short wash cycles which we didn't have with the old Hotpoint.

napkin · 13/03/2013 20:54

I have problems with stains and so do a lot of friends so sounds normal to me!

I hate mine
John Lewis washer/dryer
Wasn't cheap

Everything bobbles, really fades
Stains take a few washes, and tonnes of stain remover

Everything comes out creased
Drying takes forever
Recently fluff on everything

Also hate my dishwasher, it has adjustable slat things that I have to stand up every day, and always fall down

napkin · 14/03/2013 14:32

I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one with a rubbish washing machine. Does anyone's washing machines seem to bobble clothes after just being washed the once from brand new? Heard lots of good things about John Lewis own brand too 1991all but seems like they are just as bad as well!

8 year old Beko which takes 2.25 hours on its fastest 40 degree programme!

Bought it as a stop-gap and it just keeps going and going and going.

CrazyOldCatLady · 01/04/2013 15:44

I have a Hotpoint and actually it's grand, washes really well and I've two toddlers so it gets thoroughly tested.

Unfortunately it's just broken down for the second time in 7 years. Hotpoint's repair service is very good though.

napkin · 01/04/2013 16:07

Yes the Hotpoint's was fantastic back then when they was made in England! My Mum still has her's that is 7 or 8 years old.

Was going to open a thread about washing machines but saw this was still active...Hotpoint ..love it ..the quick wash gets things really clean (sometimes needs extra spin after ) ....but softner bit will not un block ..I have taken drawer out ,cleaned it .stuck a knitting needle down it ...but softner still there after a wash ...on any cycle.

The pre wash bit that i don't use is always black ...though I do wipe it around ....was going to put it on the hottest cycle empty ...but what shall i put in the drawer...dont think I have any calgon ?.....Anything else I could use

I have bleach ,limescale stuff, bicarbonate soda and lots of Lenor that I have not been bothered to use

Thanks

napkin · 01/04/2013 20:24

You could try using the bicarbonate of soda that would do no harm. Was told by hotpoint even sticking it on a hot wash with no cleaning fluid will work to flush out all the old detergent.

Thanks napkin.. It is on now ...will up date in morning !

stewartlaura67 · 18/06/2013 15:02

Laundry equipment can be a hit or miss sometimes! While I do not hate mine, I understand that when it leaks, marks clothes, and doesn't do an efficient time washing it can be another story. Household appliances can be such a headache-causer at times! I want to go back to the commercial laundry services I had in college!

dandydorset · 18/06/2013 23:58

agree with the lack of water

i have an outside tap/hose near to my kitchen near the machine so i fill it up with water from there as well, really makes a difference and my whites are super white

i like to also see how dirty the water gets

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/06/2013 09:14

I'm saving for a Miele 8kg washer, and a water softener so I need less detergent and my home will be free of limescale.

muse · 02/07/2018 09:16

I need a new, reasonably priced washing machine. My current Hoover appliance has now broken down for the eighth time since we bought it December 2010. (We have domestic appliance insurance, otherwise would have binned it years ago.) I'm now so fed up, I just want to go and buy a new one. Recommendations please? NOT Hoover ever again!

EcoCleaner · 02/07/2018 23:32

Some info about modern washers:
Indesit and Hotpoint are identical under the hood, both made my the same company in the same factory.
Same for Hoover and Candy.
Bosch and Siemens are the same company but Siemens tend to be a bit more beefed up.
Same with Zanussi and AEG, with AEG being the higher end.

decdec · 12/02/2019 15:41

NEVER buy a Bosch. The first washing machine broke down in two weeks and with the second the heating element failed at just over two years. I'm on my third repair and decided to bin the Bosch and buy a new one, probably Miele. Very disappointed.

WeLoveHaribo · 16/02/2019 22:15

Bosch 7 year old. Love it.
Visitors who use says it washes better then theirs (children’s stains)
Eco wash on 40 mainly, using half amount of detergent with no problem
