mainly 40 with 60 for towels and bedding

Manchesterhistorygirl · 09/03/2013 15:26

Mainly 30, but towels and bedding at 60. Occasionally I put all the whites through at 90.

fussychica · 09/03/2013 17:40

Mainly 40, bedding/whites 50. Only use 30 for delicates/my 20 min programme for one or two items.

cairnterrier · 09/03/2013 17:41

40 for everyday clothes, 60 for bedding/towels/soiled clothing/nappies.

BackforGood · 09/03/2013 18:02

Mainly 40, occasionally 50 for some more soiled clothes that can take that temp, and the occasional blast at 60 for some whites.

toastedteacake · 09/03/2013 18:14

Mainly 40. Bedding and towels at 60. Woollens and delicates at 30.

TheCountessOlenska · 09/03/2013 18:18

Yes mainly 40. 50 for bedding/towels/whites.

olivo · 09/03/2013 18:21

40 for most hinge, 60 for bedding and towels, and 30 for leotards and lunch boxes, oh and washable shoes.

olivo · 09/03/2013 18:22

Ahem, I don't wash the hinges, I wash THINGS!!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 09/03/2013 18:26

40 mainly. I am a stinky person and 30 left clothes with armpit smells but 40 doesn't

napkin · 09/03/2013 21:39

Do you find your clothes fading quickly at 40?

OP posts:
ilovepowerhoop · 09/03/2013 21:41

I use powder for colours for dark clothes and bio stuff for everything else

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/03/2013 21:42

I thought fading was down to cheap the wrong sort if detergent rather than temperature?

echt · 10/03/2013 05:07

Lightly-soiled stuff on cold. 60 for bedding and towels. 40 + bicarb for dirty cottons.

MousyMouse · 10/03/2013 09:15

mainly 40 as I find 30 often not good enough for stains/smells.
bedding/towels at 60.

cairnterrier · 10/03/2013 18:39

I think the tumble dryer causes fading rather than the temperature it's washed at.

MirandaWest · 10/03/2013 18:40

40 as that's the lowest my washing machine does

CremeEggThief · 10/03/2013 19:06

40° for most stuff, but 60° for towels and bedding. I would only really use 30° for delicates, a few times a year.

InNeedOfBrandy · 10/03/2013 19:08

40 for most and 60 for towels

Bunbaker · 10/03/2013 19:11

40 for dark clothes, 60 for towels, bedding and light/white clothes. I used to always use low temperatures and ended up with a stinky washing machine.

Washing machines need a high temperature wash now and again to keep them smelling fresh.

forevergreek · 10/03/2013 19:15

40 for everyday.

Use 60 for whites, 95 for towels and bedding

My father works in hospitals and said the lowest temp any germs are killed would be 60 degrees ( which prob means the snot 3 year old wiped on my top is probably still germy!)

PointeShoes · 10/03/2013 19:40

30 for most things. 60 for towels. 40 for bedding. Use vanish with dirty clothes.

I use persil non- bio powder tabs and liquid and don't use a tumble dryer. Does using the wrong detergent really fade clothes? I thought non-bio would be more gentler on clothes?

OP posts:
ilovepowerhoop · 10/03/2013 20:48

non-bio powder tabs still contains bleach so will fade clothes. The liquids dont have bleach but therefore dont keep the drum as clean.
