tried bleach and limescale remover too.

use very fine sandpaper x

PigletJohn · 18/12/2012 00:42

'mmmm

you might scratch the glaze on the porcelain, then the rough surface will hold grime and scale in future.

betterwhenthesunshines · 18/12/2012 10:45

I would only rub with a nylon scourer if you need to. DH puts Killrock on everything the shower regularly in this house. It's his domestic goddess moment.

NagooHoHoHo · 19/12/2012 22:42

IN our student house the toilet was black under the waterline. Nothing would shift it.

Then Paul took up bodybuilding and went on a egg-heavy regime. The resulting digestive crisis cleaned the toilet to a sparkling finish.

I decided to start my new year with clean toilets and following several experiments today I can report that a combination of a pumice stone and my steam cleaner have removed a large deposit of stained limescale. The pumice stone did not scratch the bowl (I was very careful) although I did scratch it with the scrubbing brush. I don't understand why the steamer worked but it really helped in the corners and some of the scale that I've scrubbed and scrubbed without success just flaked off immediately in the steam. I already loved my steamer for cleaning oven racks and cosy toes/high chairs /toys (before I sell them) but now I'm in awe to the power of steam!

This is shocking and works unbelievable. I was having a conversation with my Dad about hard water/urine build up stains under rim of toilet that won't clean with a toilet brush. He had just changed his glass top oven to a range and no longer had use for the WEIMAN Glass Top Cleaner he used. He was going to throw it out when he decided he would try it in the toilet first and to his surprise, the toilet looks brand new. Empty the toilet of water and then squirt a layer of the Weiman Glass Top Oven Cleaner all over the stains including the areas of the seat. Let the product sit for a while. He left it on for almost an hour, I only waited maybe 20 mins. Then with a hand held scrub brush scrub the areas. You may need a flat object like a small putty knife to gently scrape away the stubborn spots, but they will indeed come right off. Then flush the toilet and scrub away the product with your toilet brush as usual and your toilet bowel will look brand new. Amazing! I tried everything prior to this and nothing got it all off. You can purchase WEIMAN at Home Depot sold by the range ovens department.

My loo doesn't have limescale in the bowl just a line where the water comes in down to the waterline of the bowl. Any suggestions. Used viakal, scrubbed with a wire brush, harpic etc etc. Funny how everyone hasn't mentioned this dark line in the loo - just limescale in the water bowl! Could I put something in the cistern to try and clear it??

FrogFairy · 13/05/2017 18:31

I reckon the Parazone cistern block suggested upthread by pigletjohn would sort it out.

Tried garlic plus bleach (powder). It doesn't work that well. Still have some yellowish stain at the bottom. Will try the denture pills... By the way, if you want to make chrome shine there isn't anything better than conventional toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. Don't force the cleanup. Soft and slow circular motions will do the trick. ;-)

SeMaoZ · 31/03/2018 16:15

Meant HARPIC, not garlic... oops!

Missingstreetlife · 20/12/2018 12:12

Coca Cola, leave it for as long as poss

cantfindname · 20/12/2018 12:15

I have a friend who used acid.. the sort meant for drain clearing. He actually blew his toilet up!! New one was lovely and shiny Grin

empa · 20/12/2018 12:24

I see that Kilrock are doing spirit of salts on Amazon. Nothing to beat it, read the instructions carefully.

SpamChaudFroid · 20/12/2018 12:24

Ooh, I bought a bottle of the Kilrock stuff the other day! I am so excited to use it after reading this!

The Harpic hardcore one used to be awesome - actual sheets of limescale would drop off the toilet. I think they must've changed the formulation to something less impressive.

malovitt · 20/12/2018 12:30

Scoop the water out and pour white vinegar down overnight.
Really works!

amusedbush · 20/12/2018 12:35

Thank you for posting this thread, I was moaning to DH just last night that nothing is shifting the stains in our toilet!

ainsisoisje · 20/12/2018 12:38

Two leftover soft drinks from KFC have helped. Going to try a full bottle of coke next!

InteriorLulu · 20/12/2018 12:44

I've used Oust quite successfully. Also those tablets you get to descale tassimo machines - a couple of those for a few hours also did the trick.

We have very hard water here and a son who 'forgets' to flush

DeepanKrispanEven · 20/12/2018 18:08

Why does this rather ancient thread keep being revived?

colditz · 20/12/2018 18:09

DO NOT MIX HARPIC AND BLEACH,YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR LUNGS

Plus you are simply neutralising both.

Lovellama · 20/12/2018 18:11

A couple of Alka Seltzer tablets dropped in and left overnight works a treat!

Miljah · 20/12/2018 18:13

I have a water softener. But I still get limescale build up in my loos!

For the poster who said their WC has 'bad breath' Grin - I think they all do; that's what the U bend was designed for.

Genius.

Creamcakeandrhinos · 20/12/2018 18:13

Yes I think coke works

Miljah · 20/12/2018 18:15

Deepan - because it's like many things, new people come along and ask the same question. It's only a bit annoying on specialist FB sites where no one ever reads the FAQ page Xmas Grin

nessus · 20/12/2018 18:16

As ever, always start with PJ's suggestion :)

But if I may, I used HG earlier in the year. The result was blinding (and, no scooping of water out - puke!!) I swear I nearly cried out of joy.

Live in a hard water area so starting to lose battle again unfortunately :(
