It's September so the Fledgings Fly, as we wave our clutter bye bye

Welcome to the ongoing Fledgling Flyers thread for September, thanks to Bitchy who kept us posted through August.

Right, most of you should know how this works. It's a three pronged attack.
Phase one: The babysteps master these and you will be working like clockwork.
Phase two: Adding in Decluttering this will help you keep on top of the amount of stuff contributing to CHAOS.
Phase three: Missions Targeted activities to keep the chaos at bay and starting the deep cleaning.

The golden duster of Flying is stage 4: deep cleaning. This is for most me anyway, somewhat unrealistic and in theory you don't need to worry about it until you have finished decluttering that's never then. Just do it if you want to.

Now for those of you who are completely lost, lets rewind a bit.
CHAOS: Can't have anyone over syndrome. We've all been there

The fly lady approach works by breaking the house down into tiny activities which you do repeatedly until they become habit and don't feel like chores any more. The house is split into zones, each zone is tackled for a week before moving on and comes round again at the start of the next month.

There are lots of experienced Fledglings on here, hence lots of advice and support and chat about anything except housework some days. the main thing is that you can post any time you like even if you haven't lifted a finger around the house that day because with Flylady you just pick up again the next day and off you go again.

We advise against signing up for Flylady emails as they can lead to a great deal of clutter in the Inbox, each days steps will be posted on this thread to save you having to find them yourself.

In the meantime here is a link to the Flylady website for anyone who would like a browse.

Getting started Remember - don't subscribe to the emails!

hello, everyone.

Just to say, very good luck Whoknows I am sorry you are having to go through all this. I bet your dh will look after you very well in the event ThanksThanks
.
Thanks re: evaluating evidence too. I am going to have to work on ds's detective skills. I think, rather like Richard's III's bones they are buried under several layers of concrete indifference. He liked reading out the speech his mother dictated to him though- "Gentleman of the Jury, Guy Fawkes stands before you wrongfully accused etc" and got an excellent mark for it Blush It was entirely dictated, whenever I asked him what he thought, he just started screaming, I'm tired Mum who cares....Angry {he was recovering from a sore throat though}

SC art course, fab!

Toffee Senco meeting v inconclusive, and I think that school, an enormous Catholic comprehensive with a excellent reputation, but just gigantic /terrifying/noisy will not be much better thn my first choice for Ds2 which is his brother's, ifysim. So all the Senco at Ds1's school has to do is not totally alienate me and I think we will probably keep a hold of nurse for fear of meeting something worse. Hmm I'm sorry you are still feeling ill with the suspected vasculitis.

Good luck again Whoknows

Honu · 26/09/2012 06:53

Best of luck whoknows

Toffee I have just used up all my mn time for today and tomorrow on the home ed post you linked to. 15 mins isn't very long, is it?

feetheart · 26/09/2012 07:05

Whoknows - just to add my best wishes. Hope it all goes well.

Seem to have dropped off here and haven't even had time to lurk so I have very little idea of what is going on. What do I need to know?
Hopefully I will get a chance to catch up soon as RL is finally going from 'frantic' to 'madly busy' which is about normal Hmm

BlueEyeshadow · 26/09/2012 07:49

Hope it goes well WhoKnows Thanks

Supposed to be house bleugh today, but between work, DS1's school harvest festival and taking the car to the garage again - ongoing saga to sort out minor scrape on insurance - goodness knows what'll actually get done. Sigh.

laurenamium · 26/09/2012 08:00

IWipeArses · 26/09/2012 08:14

Morning! Good luck WhoKnows.

PMPY, beating that perfectionism is tough, but you are right of course, just start now. Smile

Didn't get everything doneyesterday, children were very trying, but DH did kitchen with me when he got in.

to do - top of stairs + clothe, feed etc.

Not worrying about anything else until that is done!

BitchyDragons · 26/09/2012 09:06

Morning all.

I hope all things go well today Whoknows

Not sure what i am going to get done today. If anything. Been completely flattened when I have stupid amounts to do. about normal isn't it But as there was a discussion as to location of school uniform and i know i need training kit for next week I think laundry is as good as any place to start.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/09/2012 09:06

Thank you everyone, I'm just twiddling my thumbs now waiting to go off. Might go and clean the bathroom in a minute. Hmm.

Morning my lovelies

Good luck again Whoknows x

Great to see you feetheart

Trazzle what a horrible Shock to be confronted with at picking up time. Poor you and your poor dd. I hope your she had a good night's sleep and no ill effects. Good luck with the decluttering.

Mymums thanks (you know how I love to natter Wink) and phew about the mole!! We did go through a phase of posting the kids' challenges here and I think one or two people tried them. I haven't done so as yet hard enough to motivate myself never mind- dd but I think they are a great idea

Arses hope your ds feeling better and that you are on the mend Bitchy

Lauren your lists/days always look v. organised

Huge wing flaps to Pushme Swan Ellie PA Blue Honu Toffee JGOWIT MC and everyone else

Well I seem to have broken through my tedious motivation block (in a very small way) thank heavens and much to the relief of dh! Why one looks at clutter and mess one day and feels totally deflated and like running away - and when you do finally try and tackle it - its all like wading through treacle and terribly tedious and tiring .... but on another day it's all change and you think "well a bit of that is do-able" and it's done before you know it and you wonder what all the fuss was about! I have no idea - tis chalk and cheese - and a mystery - but managed to get stuff DONE yesterday anyway.

DD at school only one day this wk (sports day, state holiday, teaching day, half-day orthodontist rest of time) so we are off for a three-day trip until Sunday.

Challenge today is to: finish morning routine, tidy up a bit more and sort stuff for rabbit-sitter, sort stuff for office cleaners, office linen, uniform washing for our return, orthodontist, ballet, pack, and set up new thread for Sunday.

Have a good anti-procrastination day everyone!!

Hope you have a dishy anaethetist Whoknows!!

Jamillalliamilli · 26/09/2012 09:44

Quick dash in to wish Whoknows good luck, and leave more of these. Thanks

CarpeJugulum · 26/09/2012 09:45

Morning all!

Back from holiday feeling heavier (but clothing still fits thankfully!) and not as relaxed as I'd hoped, but hey ho, that's life.

Came back to a spotless house, which (weird as this sounds!) didn't seem like mine as it was too tidy and neat - so a good thing Grin

Anyhow, I've been trying to catch up on the thread, but have just given up really - except to wish WhoKnows good luck for today. Have some Thanks to brighten up the ward - our local hospital don't allow real flowers, so hopefully some virtual will suffice! Smile

I've made the momentous decision not to really fly this week - I'm concentrating on getting the house back to normal from the unpacking, all the washing done and all that sort of stuff. I'll maintain the house, but not do decluttering, deep cleaning until October, which is next week

Conveniently, it starts on a Monday, so I'm having a gloriously un-pressured week, then starting cleaning, decluttering, weightloss all on Monday 1st. HONEST!

ToffeeWhirl · 26/09/2012 10:20

Honu - oh, sorry you have used up your time Sad. I just thought you were the perfect person to advise. Will keep my trap shut in future!

WhoKnows - thinking of you today.

Trazzle - oh, your poor DD! I hope she recovers quickly. Sorry you are having such a difficult week.

Swan - shame that the SENCO visit was not very encouraging. However, it would certainly be much easier for you if your DC go to the same school. Am not feeling ill, by the way, which is giving me and the drs hope that I don't have vasculitis. Still awaiting blood-test results. My lovely dr rang me last night to reassure me.

SC - I have that weird contrast between days when things are do-able and days when they are not, too. It's sometimes linked to tiredness when things are overwhelming, I think. Glad you managed to get stuff done yesterday.

Carpe - that sounds like a good plan, as you have enough to do without worrying about decluttering and deep cleaning.

Sorry, run out of time for more personals, but to everyone else. DS1 has just told me he's broken his finger by banging it against the door frame as he was running downstairs. It's the same finger he had broken by another boy pushing him over several years ago, so it has a weakness. He said he heard it crack Sad. He can't move it and it looks as if it's swelling up already. Have dosed him with Ibuprofen and am taking him round to A&E.

Hmm, this means he can no longer practise handwriting or help me unload the dishwasher, but he says he can use the mouse because it "supports" his little finger Hmm.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 26/09/2012 10:27

I am upping my days from 7 in 10 to 8 in 10 or sometimes even 9 in 10. On the up side it means I will be getting more time during the weekend with DD and DH instead of us tag teaming all the time but on the downside it makes me sad I have to rush so much of my DD's childhood

See you all on the 1st October - I am adopting CarpeJugulums approach although my monthly mealplan does need doing before then!

strictlycaballine · 26/09/2012 10:48

Another one adopting Carpe's approach (especially the weight loss Blush)

  • welcome back btw - and congrats on returning to clean and tidy house!

Hope the new hours work well for you and your family Eyes I'm sure your dd will love having you there for the long weekends

Oh no, another one visiting A & E Toffee hope your ds is OK and glad you are feeling better in yourself

Swan meant to say earlier obviously much less hassle free for you if your dss can both go to same school and what's good for mother etc etc (shd never be underestimated!) Easier to say/do that for someone else than ourselves though I know.

More waves to JGOWI and everyone else

strictlycaballine · 26/09/2012 10:52

oh yes ... I was dropping in to tell you all that the new thread is ...

HERE!!

Started it early because I'm going away for a few days this afternoon. Would someone mind casting their eye over it in a casual sort of way until Sun eve when I am back? Just so everyone, partic newcomers, feel welcomed. Thanks and have a great rest of the week everyone!!

Tally-ho ... [SC canters off thread stage right]

BitchyDragons · 26/09/2012 11:17

I'll keep half an eye SC. can't promise not to terrify the newbies though

swanthingafteranother · 26/09/2012 12:30

reading everyone's messages but no time to comment properly,
except PMPY that sounds extremely difficult and frustrating. Is there any protection for small employers in these cases, I mean financial if a key employee goes sick and you need to pay them?
SC I get that OFTEN. I think it does help sometimes to completely walk away from a problem Blush and then start again another day. Housework/organising stuff is v demoralising and I think you start to be very unproductive and demotivated unless it is alternated with something else. Saying that, ths week I have been madly busy rushing around and all I want to do is just tidy up! Which last week made me feel thoroughly bleugh...

Dh has resigned his job, and will start to set up his own business soon, working from home. So we need to start being v. economical; so far I feel v enthusiastic about it all, and up to the challenge. I'm longing for dh to be around more; family life feels v bottlenecked atm.

ToffeeWhirl · 26/09/2012 12:37

Oh, exciting and scary at the same time, Swan! My DH says he would hate to ever work for anyone else again, in spite of the stresses and strains (and lack of money Hmm) of self-employment.

Back from A&E. DS1 was x-rayed and his finger isn't broken, so the nurse just bound it up in plasters and told him to continue with the Ibuprofen to help reduce the swelling and pain. I did consider asking for a printout of his x-ray for our human-body project, but DS1 begged me not to Grin. Wish I had though.

Now back home, have washed up and sorted the kitchen, cooked lunch and am now going to sit down and watch a DVD with DS1. Friend coming round at half one, then have a meeting with DS2's teacher after school. It will be the first time I've been face to face with her since we fell out over DS1 .

There's a big pile of washing to be folded on the table, which I'm ignoring very successfully.

strictlycaballine · 26/09/2012 14:23

Quick neigh before I go ...

Thanks Bitchy Grin

How exciting Swan! Good luck with it all - great that you'll be getting more support. [Decides now might not be the right moment to elaborate on the "joys" of a dh who is constantly popping in and out from office four doors away Wink] Glad I'm not the only one who has wading in treacle days btw.

Exactly what my dh says Toffee - one's own stress much preferable to that imposed from elsewhere and overall much more satisfying too

BitchyDragons · 26/09/2012 16:16

Erm, i think I should probably warn you that I have been constructing a massive ta da list today.

BitchyDragons · 26/09/2012 16:20

Question for you all, does anyone else like photos printed out and in albums any more or is it just me being old fashioned?

Kickboxer · 26/09/2012 16:55

*PMPY ? Oh I agree about a decent washer and dryer. I bought what I thought was an ideal one, was soooo horrible. I joined Which, researched washers and dryers and bought a new washer and dryer from their recommended lists. It has made life soooo much easier!!! I was so boring for the next month as I constantly raved about them Blush If you have small DC I think an 8kg washing machine is almost an essential, as it is big enough to was a single duvet. (I now research almost everything on their website! It even did a test on homebrand groceries!!)

WhoKnows - hope everything went well.

MyMums - my DC are a little young for that I think.

Trazzles - Oh your poor DD! It?s so hard taking young DC to A&E.

Swan - Good luck to your DH starting his own business! My DH runs his own company. It?s tough, but it?s nice that he can (sometimes) be flexible.

Carpe - I always think you need a holiday after a holiday.

Eyes - glad you can have better weekends.

Toffee - Oh dear, poor DS. I guess you can?t help but admire him for trying to make the best of it by getting more computer time!!

Thanks for new thread, Caballine.

Bitchy -- I do! DS1 loves going though our albums. (I?m a bit behind at the moment though)

rowingboat · 26/09/2012 18:46

Hi all
Just a quickie!
Had a very long chat/coffee with a friend today and thus did not get lots done.
On the plus side my very first hotspot is now quite tidy - kitchen table.
Have also washed up swished and swiped kitchen and bathroom hung up washing and bit of dustpan and brushing round ds's seat.
That will have to do because I will be at work from tomorrow until Sunday now.
Pleased about the hotspot! Yes!

BitchyDragons · 26/09/2012 19:27

Construct and use the storage boxes that got bought and abandoned Blush
