Where does this go?

Does anyone want to play a game of sorts in working out where things should go based on where other people keep things?

For starters, in our house teatowels sit on top of the microwave and have done since we moved in 2 years ago for want of knowing where to put them. Where do teatowels go?

Cereal boxes on the worktop (right in the corner) as they don't fit in the cupboards.

Tea towels are in a drawer with the current one being hung from a drawer handle (other drawers are for cling film/plastic bags, cutlery, dd's hair accessories, stationery etc (this is the smallest one)).

Hoover in the didning room (we use the cupboard under the stairs for overflow food storage as it is cooler)

Ironing board behind the utility room door (so you have to be careful not to open it too far and knock it over :))

Aprons on small hook behind kitchen door.

We keep sharp knives on top of the cooker hood as ds can reach everywhere else now and open cupboard locks :(

LCarbury · 19/08/2012 19:53

Teaspoons go in the cutlery drawer. There is a whole MN history on where various cutlery goes in the drawer though!

Do pants go with socks and tights or with bras? I know bras and tights definitely do not go together though.

Tea towels go in the bin! Never owned any! Manage perfectly well without Grin

I don't buy massive boxes of cereal that won't fit in the cupboard.

Hoover lives behind the door to living room/dining room. The door is open all the time, so it mostly lives hidden behind there as the sideboard is behind the same door, so it gets hidden in an otherwise unused space!

Ironing board was in the spare room, but now said room is having a baby put in it! So it now lives behind the door in the kitchen.

kettle on the worktop. Don't understand where else a kettle would go :S

Wireless thermostat? Don't believe we own one of those!

InMySpareTime · 19/08/2012 19:55

Not teaspoons generally, the one currently being used to squish tea bags. Do people use a new one for each cup? Do they Shock put it back in the cutlery drawer afterwards?

IWanders · 19/08/2012 19:56

Teaspoons in the teaspoons cupboard, we have a useless draw/cupboard in our house near were the aga was before we ripped it out that's were teaspoons go. But what was that weird draw/cupboard for? Its on its own kind of floating on the left hand corner of the old aga mantel, what did people but in that cupboard/draw, all that will fit in the draw is teaspoons all that will fit in the cupboard is non dealt with mail.

LCarbury · 19/08/2012 19:56

New one each time here

not everyone has an understears cupboard or airing cupboard Sadvacuum cleaner, ironing board and iron go in the garage (car lives on the drive)
tea towels in the drawer but before that in a little plastic basket on a shelf
kettle lives in a difficult to get to cupboard because it's only foreign guests who ask for tea

Where do bottles of squash too tall for the cupboards go?

InMySpareTime · 19/08/2012 19:57

Bras, pants, socks and tights go in the same drawer (it is a big drawer though).
If I had to split I'd put bras and pants as "underwear" and socks and tights as "hosiery"

TheDetective · 19/08/2012 19:57

Pants and bra's together, socks and tights together!

Under my stairs is the clothes airer, as that is where the boiler is! So makes sense to dry clothes there!

OhDearNigel · 19/08/2012 19:58

Tea towels - ironed Blush and folded with military precision in a drawer with similarly laundered aprons x 4, oven gloves and electric whisk

Ironing board - slots nicely under the sofa

Knives - magnetic strip on the wall

Hoover - cupboard under the stairs which has a curious arrangement of nails on the inside of the door to house all the attachments

Cereal - matchy-matchy dispensers on top of kitchen cupboards. We only get rice crispies and cornflkes though.

Kettle - next to the coffee machine in the corner of the U shaped unit, nex to the sink.

sommewhereelse · 19/08/2012 19:59

tights and bras can go in the same drawer if you get drawer dividers from Ikea

sommewhereelse · 19/08/2012 20:02

Good idea about ironing board under the sofa except our sofa moves every day. It gets pushed back so I can work out or the kids can play Lego and then pushed forward again so shortsighted DH can focus on the TV in the evening

thenightsky · 19/08/2012 20:02

Bras... top drawer
Knickers... middle drawer
Socks and tights... bottom drawer

InMySpareTime · 19/08/2012 20:03

The car goes in the garage
I'm with you on the nails and hooks for anything loose in a cupboard.

whattodoo · 19/08/2012 20:04

Tea towels in the cutlery drawer (its big)

Hoover and ironing board in tall kitchen cupboard along with bag full of carrier bags that always fall out when the door is opened.

Kettle on worksurface next to mugs and directly under the tea/coffee cupboard.

New spoon used for each cuppa.

Does the washing up liquid stay on the windowsill or should it go in the cupboard under the sink?

booksandchoc · 19/08/2012 20:05

Pants and bras and socks and tights all in one drawer.
New teaspoon every time. We have about 30!
Ironing board and Hoover in front cupboard.
Kettle on the work top beside sugar and tea bags.
Tea towels have their own drawer.
Tall squash bottles, tall cereal boxes go in cupboard which has had a shelf removed.
Grin

whattodoo · 19/08/2012 20:07

Aprons in the 'baking stuff' drawer.

Socks with tights, bras, knicks and pjs in little baskets on open shelves

InMySpareTime · 19/08/2012 20:08

Tall squash/oil bottles are decanted into smaller bottles (tall bottle with remnant lives in utility room), small bottles fit nicely in the cupboard.

MILdesperandum · 19/08/2012 20:11

Genius DH rips the top couple of inches off our big cereal boxes so they fit in our cereal drawer because he couldn't work out how to adjust the shelves in the cupboard

InMySpareTime · 19/08/2012 20:15

A bread knife is quite effective at shortening cereal boxes if you don't have a decanter and you can invert the top into the box so it's more sealed.

thenightsky · 19/08/2012 20:19

InMySpareTime I'm another one of those freaks who keep my car in my garage Grin But there's still room for other stuff too.

buggyRunner · 19/08/2012 20:21

Bras get folded into 1 cup which also holds the knickers so all the space you need is a cup of bra, plus looks nice

InMySpareTime · 19/08/2012 20:23

Oh yes, there's also a train set layout, a load of theatre lights, bikes, a unicycleConfused, a spare door, and all the more normal garage stuff too. Thank goodness for hooks is all I can sayGrin.

Marrow · 19/08/2012 20:25

I love this thread!

Kettle lives on the hob. Ironing board and Hoover in cupboard under the stairs. Teaspoons in cutlery drawer ( fresh one used each time!)

Tea towels in drawer in kitchen table. Aprons on hook on back of kitchen door. Cereal is in plastic dispensers that fit in low down cupboard so DD can reach.

Tall bottles of squash hidden in corner behind bread bin.

Washing up liquid goes in caddy that hangs over door of cupboard under the kitchen sink.
