What the jeff is creating these tiny holes in my tops? I want to say moths but they're new wardrobes, new clothes....they appear in a little pattern round the bottom of tops.

Anyone?

Watching, as these little blighters do the same to my tops ...

Mum2Fergus · 12/08/2012 20:50

Funny, this is the 3rd/4th thread Ive seen on same subject recently! Perhaps its a manufacturer conspiracy to make us buy more?! I though it was a quality issue for me as have been buying DS stuff from ASDA as he's growing at a wild pace, but noticed today two out of three tshirts if mine have done the same!

MoonHare · 12/08/2012 20:56

This keeps happening to my tops too!!!!!

Tiny holes, usually only one or two appear towards the bottom around belly button height I'd say.

It's been happening for about 2 years. T-shirts and jumpers only, all kept in the same drawer.

It's happened in clothes from Next, Boden, Hobbs, Top Shop, Sainsbury. I've been gutted about losing some of my favourite tops to this.

I wondered if it was my belt rubbing and changed the belt - still happens. Thought maybe moths but why always in the same place??

It's driving me mad, what's causing it?????!!!

ToffeePenny · 12/08/2012 20:57

Unzipped zips?
Other loose metalry?

shattereddreams · 12/08/2012 21:00

It's the zips on jeans.
And
Cheaper weight cotton used to make clothes which doesn't withstand the wear and tear.

Buy better quality clothes?!? (in theory Boden is better quality. I have had this happen to jigsaw expensive clothes too).
Very annoying I agree

thekidsarealright · 12/08/2012 21:24

No it can't be the zip, it's happened on a few tops that aren't long enough to get caught.

Fair play, I'm a bit high street but Mother has had it and she's a complete clothes snob.

Drives me mad! I read somewhere it's from leaning against kitchen worktoos when washing up etc. Seems to be the right height. Could be...

Chardonnayaday · 12/08/2012 21:44

Erm, kitchen worktops

MrsKwazii · 12/08/2012 21:46

Do you do up the hooks of your bras when they go in the washing machine? They can get caught up in clothes sometimes. Wouldn't explain the holes at the bottom of clothes though I suppose.

Redglow · 12/08/2012 21:56

I always get two tiny holes, think it might be the steering wheel or is that just silly.?

Boggler · 12/08/2012 22:04

I've had the same problem for the past couple of years and no success in finding a reason. I even contemplated changing the washing machine. However since I've been pregnant I've noticed no holes in any of my tops even the thinner t shirt types that are similar to my old non pg clothes. I've pondered why this might me and the only conclusion I can come to is that none of my pregnancy trousers have zips or metal buttons like my normal jeans. I firmly believe that it's the metal zips and buttons that cause the problem. Now I've reached that conclusion I'm not sure what I can do about it!

thekidsarealright · 13/08/2012 09:07

Thanks for all your replies! Grin

Ah yes, the leaning on worktops and rubbing against belts scenario seems most logical. I'll just have to stop washing up then!

Yogagirl17 · 13/08/2012 09:45

Happens to me too - keep losing some of my favourites. thought maybe car seatbelts rubbing?

shattereddreams · 13/08/2012 17:07

I think yogagirl has got it!
Seat belt combo with jeans zips. Total top killer

MoonHare · 13/08/2012 19:49

If it's seat belts and zips why isn't it happening to DH's tops? He drives and wears jeans too.

Beamur · 13/08/2012 19:50

Bleach? It will burn little holes in clothes if splashed on.

ChitchatAtHome · 14/08/2012 09:37

Happens to me too, I think about 1/3 of my current tops have these blasted little holes. I've assumed it's a rubbing thing, from jeans/trousers (button, zips), rubbing against counters and seat belts.

I think men's t-shirts are generally thicker and looser which is why theirs aren't affected, not to mention that they generally do MUCH less counter work in the kitchen.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 14/08/2012 10:19

This happens to me too!
T-shirts mainly, almost all of DH's and some of mine. Cardigans too.

Very strange!

Jergens · 14/08/2012 22:47

Glad to find out I'm not the only one! I've got holes in the same places. Think friction from seatbelt onto zips is the culprit!Angry

WildWorld2004 · 14/08/2012 22:53

I have the same problem but none of these answers fit me. Confused

Molehillmountain · 14/08/2012 23:24

Me too! Drives me mad!

frustratedmum2 · 16/08/2012 21:04

I had this problem - finally found out it was a body warmer / gillet I put on over my tops and the metal button (the bit on the inside) was the culprit - little holes around the belly button area!! I had selotaped my seatbelt, round the kitchen sink etc before I realised what it was - it was driving me nuts!! Even better was the fact I had splashed out on a Tommy Halfinger gillet and it was the one ruining my clothes Angry

miomio · 16/08/2012 21:06

I think it is kitchen worktops. Not had any appear since i moved house 2 years ago

sommewhereelse · 18/08/2012 06:23

I googled this once. Apparently lots of women suffer from this. It has to be a 'lifestyle' problem as no one else in the family gets this but clothes are washed (and in DH's case stored) in the same way/place. I don't think it's same cause for everyone. For some it might be a belt, others a rough work top, others a car seat belt.
