Do you recommend your washing machine??

JimbosJetSet · 12/07/2012 14:09

We have had a Beko washing machine for 11 months now, and it has just broken down for the second time - thankfully, they have agreed to refund us.

So the hunt starts for a new washing machine - would you recommend the washing machine that you have? My only criteria is less than £500 (I realise that Miele are wonderful, but they should be for a grand!) and that it has a child lock. And it has been reliable for you!

Many thanks.

I would definitely recommend mine, but it's a Miele..............................
(I've had it 14 + years and it has never broken down and it washes everything beautifully. More than worth the money we paid for it).

Sorry, no help really is it.

DarrowbyEightFive · 12/07/2012 14:24

Ooh, I'd like some recommendations too. My mum's machine has just broken down. An ancient Hotpoint, and the repair guy said the old Hotpoints were great, but the new ones had an average life of 15 months, which is pathetic.

I'm looking for one that's a lot less than Jimbos - it's only for one wash a week at the most for a pensioner, so needs to be less hardy than a fmaily model. I#ve got my eye on this from Currys - anyone got any experience?

Sorry for the hijack, jimbo, but fundamentally we want the same thing, no?

derekthehamster · 12/07/2012 14:26

I have a bosch, I've had it for about 5 years, after a series of hotpoit/indisit washers which laste 1-2 yrs. I'm not going to say it's still going strong as I'm not tempting fate

daisydoodoo · 12/07/2012 14:47

ive got this one www.johnlewis.com/231292692/Product.aspx so far so good. I've only had it a couple of months, as had to get a new machine when i moved house.
Much better than the one that was part of previous rented kitchen. Washing comes out clean, it has an anti stain cycle which i use for the childrens clothes. Lots of programmes and eco cycles using cold water.

I have a Servis Easy logic for 7 years now. I can say that it does a load of washing every weekday and 2 loads on Saturday and again on Sunday. We did not pay that much at the time, but considering how much it washed for us I am very pleased.
Ps i do not use the drying much...

Endorse Miele. Had mine for at least five years, very expensive I know but my last one before that was Zanussi and it only lasted 3years. worth every penny , clothes wash beautifully. Obviously every penny counts now, but if and when I have to buy again will find money for another. Was told in shop they often last for twenty years!

DueinSeptember · 13/07/2012 09:53

I had a Candy previously and it lasted for about 9-10 years, and we used it regularly with no problems in between. I was pretty happy with that lifetime as I think it was only £299. My fridge freezer was also a Candy and that lasted over 10 years.

GnocchiNineDoors · 13/07/2012 09:54

Mines a Hoover one. Four years old and not one glitch or anything.

sparklingsea · 13/07/2012 09:55

Mine is a Bosch, love it. Not a single problem in nearly 10 years. It washes at least 10 loads a week.

bronze · 13/07/2012 09:56

Lg! Lg! Lg! Lg!

marge2 · 13/07/2012 09:56

I've got a bosch one and it's great - we've had it for ages and it has only ever gone wrong once because I left loads of change in a pocket and it came out and jammed the pump. They sent someone out who fixed it really quickly. I do about 4 to 5 washes a week.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 13/07/2012 10:01

Bosch for me too - it's only gone wrong once in 8 years and it's on at least twice a day.

beautifulmind · 13/07/2012 10:02

Does it need to be front loader?
We have a 10kg Whirlpool toploader - I run a B&B so it's on 4 or 5 times a day - have had it 7 years.

The machine is American, and doesn't heat the water so is attached to hot and cold feed. It also has a v.high spin speed.

Was told by a repair man years ago that toploaders are better than front loaders because of even weight distribution on bearings or summat.

DamselInDisgrace · 13/07/2012 10:05

We have a Bosch too. It washes fine but it makes the most annoying beeping sound when it's done, incessantly. Drives is mental. You can programme it to not beep but it only ever works for one cycle and it's too much of a faff to do every single time. We hate the machine.

ScrambledSmegs · 13/07/2012 10:12

We have a Bosch, and it's fab. Not quite as fab as our old Bosch, which we only got rid of because we were getting a new kitchen and DH insisted on integrated appliances Hmm . The new one is slightly less fab because it has a few less cycle options and no electronic display, that's all. I loved our old machine and insisted on Bosch for the new one, it takes a 7kg load (big drum) and is very reliable.

You can find really good deals online if you price compare. Google shopping works well for us.

ScrambledSmegs · 13/07/2012 10:13

Oh, I don't mind the beeping. DH gets a little stabby about it though Grin

marge2 · 13/07/2012 13:06

I like the beeps. I often forget to unload it, so it's a good reminder.

MrsApplepants · 13/07/2012 14:10

I love my Miele. Got it on special offer at John Lewis a number of years ago as a package with a tumble drier. Both still look and work like new

Yankeecandlequeen · 13/07/2012 16:37

I had a Hotpoint 1st Edition (those with the pink writing on) & it lasted me 12 yrs. Only needed brushes once then died 2 yrs ago. When MIL died I brought her WM to ours as it was new & its a Hotpoint - works a treat. Now need another one for the new house & I'm thinking of this one:

www.bootskitchenappliances.com/product/WMB71442W-Beko-Washing-Machine-White-23533.aspx

I'm happy with Beko brand. My FF is still going strong after 12 yrs.

daxydynamo · 16/07/2012 11:30

Don't get an LG biggest mistake I ever made, looks great but tiny holes appear in clothes, and it does'nt stay silent! powder/fabric softener drawer constantly clogging up have to clean out every couple of weeks. wish i'd saved up a bit more and gone for a miele! hope this helps x

Geranium3 · 16/07/2012 22:15

I have a zanussi XC (extra capacity=6-7kg), it's great, 2nd one i've had. got a 1600spin but my last zanussi was1400spin and that seemed just as efficient.
Like the hourly delay start so i can set it for cheaper night elec, washes really well, holds masses but hate, hate the very annoying piercing alarm that goes on forever when wash finishes!
Had2 bosch wash machines previously but much prefer zanussi

AppleCrumbleAndFish · 16/07/2012 22:21

You can switch the beeping off on the Bosch. I'd recommend my LG direct drive machine. Much better Than our two previous Bosch machines.

SleepyFergus · 16/07/2012 22:35

Bosch here too. Had mine for coming up to 8 years and never a problem. My mum has the same and had hers for longer with no probs.

I've also a Bosch tumble drier, 7 years and again, still going strong.

neither I or anyone in my family work for Bosch

HaveToWearHeels · 16/07/2012 22:38

Same here, Bosch, love it. I only bought it because it was black, but it have proved to be more than a pretty face.
