Do you recommend your washing machine??

We have had a Beko washing machine for 11 months now, and it has just broken down for the second time - thankfully, they have agreed to refund us.

So the hunt starts for a new washing machine - would you recommend the washing machine that you have? My only criteria is less than £500 (I realise that Miele are wonderful, but they should be for a grand!) and that it has a child lock. And it has been reliable for you!

Many thanks.

My Hotpoint 1st edition deserves a medal.

Another vote for Miele here. We've had our fairly basic model for seven years now and it still looks like new and washes really well.

Sorry, but I have a Miele, expensive but so worth it.

My mum has had her Miele for 15 years.

they DO last

Meile £644 feom Redhill Appliances - brilliant!

Had our washing machine and drier for 11 years.

Recently bought a dishwasher from Redhill at a massive discount - good company.

Yes, we'd highly recommend ours. It is a Panasonic 8kg NA-168VX2. It is bloody brilliant. 1600 r/min gets those clothes well and truly started on the way to being dry. (How handy has that been this "summer"?!) It's rather quiet and it came with a 6 year warranty from John Lewis. We probably do 10 loads per week. Has a "rapid 15 minute" cycle as well which is a god send for when DD has done something unpleasant in her pants and I don't want to put it in with the rest of the washing. I use this feature a great deal also just to wash things which don't need much of a scrub. The 6 year warranty was the clincher. Which rate Panasonic machines quite well. At the time of purchase, 2 years ago, when I spoke to the nice lady at Which as to why this machine wasn't on their website, she said it simply wasn't a popular enough machine, but that Panasonic machines generally test well.

Happy shopping. Sorry about your Beko experience. When we moved into this house we had a Beko dishwasher. It died within two weeks. When I rang the service helpline the Beko lady told me never to buy another one of these machines. "They're crap" - her words. "Buy a Miele." Hmmmm... Wonder if she still has that job?! Still, I appreciated her honesty.

Whatever you don't get an Indesit. Namely Indesit Moon. It is beyond shit.

insancerre · 18/07/2012 15:33

I have an Indesit moon- I HATE IT- and wouldn't ever recommend anyone buying one.

Bosch Bosch Bosch.
8kg.
Yes the beeping is a pain in the bum but it has it's own Utility Room Grin.

Previously - Hotpoint ( so-so)
Newer Zanussi (pants. now Zanussi/Electolux)

Prior to that older Zanussi. Lovely, solid machine.

Hi, I posted near the beginning about needing a machine for my mum. It's been interesting seeing all the responses. At home we have a Siemens (which is identical to the Bosch) and it's brilliant, but I was looking for something a bit cheaper for my mum (because she washes so much less). In the end I went for a Zanussi, machine, delivery, connection and recycling all for 270 quid. I hope it lasts longer than 15 months!

Beanbagz · 18/07/2012 20:27

I have an LG steam direct and it's fantastic!

It's got a 9kg capacity, handwash setting, freshen up setting, loads of other functions but it's the steam setting that is really great. Even for my two very muddy DCs!

I also like the fact that it has a time delay function so that i can load it at night and it'll have just washed the load when i get up in the morning (rather than everything sitting in a damp washer overnight).

Our last Bosch lasted 12 years, dealing with sports kit, muddy work gear, cloth nappies and all the normal stuff every day. We replaced it with another one about two months ago, and got absolutely superb service from CoOp Electrical.
