Laundry loads - what loads (whites, wools etc) and how many a week do you do?

TimeWasting · 21/06/2012 15:56

I'm curious what loads you all separate your laundry into, and how many loads a week do you do?
At present I do one or two whites/towels loads, save up woolens and handwash til there's a load, do DH jeans separate and then do everything else together. Loads and loads and loads of clothes.

I'm considering washing each persons clothes separately which will make putting away easier, but will also make it easier to wash my few items frequently, so I'm not resorting to tracky pants when all my clothes are buried amongst the mountains of everyone elses.

Any other strategies?

Adorabell why does your puppies' bedlinen get changed daily and the humans' once a week? Wink

BertieBotts · 23/06/2012 17:55

Clothes
Bedding/towels/muslins/tea towels/dishcloths/anything which needs to go in at 60
(Very occasional) hand wash

I used to separate out darks and lights but at 40 unless something is brand new it doesn't make a difference.

Probably 1-3 a week depending on how much I'm working and how many times I get around to it.

Just me and DS :)

MousyMouse · 23/06/2012 17:56

lights
darks
jeans
dark towels
light towels (incl sponges and kitchen cloths)
wool
bedding

about 5 loads per week whenever the relevant laundry basket is full.

cece · 23/06/2012 18:00

I do at least one load a day on a roation basis. However, if it is good drying day I might get ahead of myself with it and do two or three loads in a day every now and again. So roation goes something like this;

whites
coloureds
blacks/darks
sheets
towels
bras

and then back to the beginning.

  • Whites
  • Really Dirty stuff/stuff that needs extra wash or particularly hot wash - eg stuff that's come back from camp, or football kits, etc.
  • Stuff that needs a quick wash, but isn't what you'd call 'dirty' - say blouses, tops, leggings, etc., that I can do on a lower temperature
  • then most other stuff to fill up whatever wash needs filling up - so towels for example can go with any of the above washes
DonInKillerHeels · 23/06/2012 18:47

Whites, pale colours, dark colours, woollens, delicates, and sometimes a dirty cloths/runny dye wash.

We do our own clothes about once a week, and put a nursery wash on every other day; generally DS doesn't have any whites, and we chuck his pales and darks in together.

starfishmummy · 23/06/2012 19:21

Whites and very light coloured items
mediums
darks
bedding - ours is a whole load by itself, ds's single bed stuff.goes in with other items.
Towels
My bras (and tights in winter) handwash every couple of days.

bamboobutton · 23/06/2012 19:29

towels
bedding
everything else

do towels and bedding once a week and a load of everything else every day.

i can't be arsed to separate

smurkle · 23/06/2012 19:59

At least one load a day, often two.

Split into lights or darks.... Simple system that seems to work here for the six of us.

Sabriel · 24/06/2012 14:12

towels
whites
red and dark pink
light pinks/ pales
blues
blacks
darker colours

bananacrepe · 24/06/2012 21:43

Can I just ask... Where do you all dry these loads of loads of washing? That's my biggest issue except when the sun is out -not that that ever happens-

Seona1973 · 24/06/2012 21:47

I have 2 clothes airers - one like this and one like this. I can fit 4 loads or more between the two of them

50ShadesOfShit · 24/06/2012 21:50

We have a lights basket and a darks basket, I wash each one every other day. Simple, but works for us. Grin

nomadwantshome · 24/06/2012 21:52

1 whites
2 darks
2 mids
1 pink/reds

These include towels or bedding in relevant colours. All done at weekends

Meglet · 24/06/2012 21:54

3 of us. About 20 small loads a week.

Towels washed every day.
Sheets.
Lights.
Darks.
School uniform.
DD's messy nursery clothes.
My work clothes, I only have 2 outfits so have to do them every night.

zlist · 24/06/2012 22:27

I don't have a laundry basket, instead I have four mesh washing bags on hooks - whites, lights, darks and brights. I am to put on a load when one of the bags gets full enough. All my towels and bedding are white so at a guess I put on 3 loads of whites, 1 lights, 2 darks and 2 Brights a week.

cece · 24/06/2012 22:35

I dry mine outside on the line if it is warm/dry. If I have to dry it inside then I use one of these. It holds one load of washing perfectly and if it warms up then I can carry it outside and put it on the patio.

Sabriel · 25/06/2012 08:03

I have a high line that goes the length of the garden. Unless it is actually raining it will dry.

When it rains for days on end I put up the airer in the livingroom.

Hopefullyrecovering · 25/06/2012 08:09

Around 11 a week for four people

Two loads of bedding
One load of towels, bath mats, tea towels etc
One load of PE kits and gym kits
One load of handwash only (my stuff)
One load of whites only - mainly shirts
Four/five loads of mixed coloureds

Ineedadollar · 25/06/2012 08:30

One or two loads a day.
Whites, darks and pinks Hmm generally, though once or twice a week I will do a really hot wash with bedding, towels etc.

muddymooncupsatdawn · 25/06/2012 08:42

Whites
Lights
colours
darks
jeans
sheets/d. covers etc./throws/towels/flannels
bath mats

2-3 loads a day. ( except christmas/ New years day Grin)

TodaysAGoodDay · 25/06/2012 08:47

2 loads a week of bedding and towels. 2 other loads, 1 dark and 1 light. Only 40' or less.

muddymooncupsatdawn · 25/06/2012 08:56

I bung it all in the tumble dryer.
If it's dry & sunny i will put it on the line, except bird nesting size underwear. Blush & Grin

anklebitersmum · 05/07/2012 14:23

All underwear and pj's go in the tumble dryer regardless of weather. Everything else will be dried outside if possible and towels are outside first then set to fluffy in the tumble.

DoingItForMyself · 05/07/2012 14:40

I do an average 1 a day, divided into:

whites
white & (other colours)
yellows/beiges/greens
blues/greys/greens
reds/pink/purples
darks

Very slovenly bed changer, so there should probably be at least one more wash per week than there currently is. Blush
