Tassimo definitely makes good Espresso. DH is very picky and loves them. He doesn't drink Latte and I don't drink coffee at all so can't vouch for that. Eerything we have made with it has been great except DD says the hot chocolate is too watery.

I bought the Tassimo for DH's birthday about three years ago and it has done sterling service. DH says it's the best present I've ever bought him.

Nespresso! I have saved a fortune on coffee shop coffees since I got one, it is fantastic and looks very cool and not too bulky on my worktop Grin

amazonianwoman · 13/06/2012 23:24

Nespresso Citiz - the one without the milk frother. Love love love it - fabulous latte and espresso (I use an Aerolatte to froth the milk, if I can be bothered, otherwise just microwave the milk)

amazonianwoman · 13/06/2012 23:24

Grin crossed posts!

PorkyandBess · 13/06/2012 23:25

Another vote for Nespresso.

I don't drink coffee, but I bought one for dh and he is mad about it.

Get a traditional Italian stove top coffee maker like this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moka_pot

It's so easy to use and tastes amazing with hot milk whipped up. And cheap. No need for any complicated newfangled thingies Grin

Sleepwhenidie · 14/06/2012 00:02

Yep, stovetop thingy great, there was one in the holiday home in S of France we went to last week and it was enjoyable making and drinking coffee from it...but for me too much of a faff filling it, waiting for it, emptying and cleaning it to have one at home. Nespresso machine virtually cleans itself, just the pod to pop in and then empty out little box of used pods every 8 coffees or so (you can get the used pods collected free for recycling).

Buntingbunny · 14/06/2012 00:10

Nope, but Hasbean will provide you with nice coffee to put in it.

And no I don't work for them, good coffee is DHs vice.

thinkfast · 14/06/2012 00:24

Nespresso. The capsules aren't cheap though

tostaky · 14/06/2012 05:44

Thank you - shame I can't go in a shop and try the coffee made by a neapresso machine...
I will research about it and maybe that's DP's father day sorted!
Is it programable, ie can you set it to make coffee for you in te morning at a certain time? My old coffee machine used to do that and it was great Smile

Italian stove coffee maker, too much faff for me and also I find the coffee is too strong for my liking

I have a gaggia evolution espresso maker. It is now about 8 years old. It did cost 150 quid but was worth every pennyl Fantastic frother.

savoycabbage · 14/06/2012 05:52

There are nespresso shops in Australia where you can go in and test the coffee.

NunTheWiser · 14/06/2012 05:52

Nespresso! Got one for Mothers Day and love, love, love it!

Sleepwhenidie · 14/06/2012 08:28

Are you near a Selfridges tostaky? They have nespresso bars where you can try, buy machines and pods.

You can programme my nespresso but it only takes two minutes to warm up, then you run through one cup without a pod to clean the machine (just once each day) then pop in your pod. Whole process takes minutes and after that, it takes less than a minute to make a cup, milk a little longer in the frother if you want it.

Sleepwhenidie · 14/06/2012 08:29

Sorry...you CAN'T programme my nespresso!

tostaky · 14/06/2012 10:04

Great, I'm in london so I will go to selfridges to try one

Then again I'm currently sitting in a costs coffee shop and they are promoting the Tassimo... Apparently it does cappuccino and lattes too automatically, which the neapresso doesn't... It also does tea and hot choc so I'm unsure, I don't want something that some public govt office had a few years ago (big bulky machine with lots of little bags containing coffees, teas or hot choc... coffee was always awful..). But costa says it will taste the same as in a costa latte...

Decision, decisions...
Is it easy to make the froth with the nespresso? Or the aero-thingy?

you say " i dont want a proper coffee machine"

is it the size? the cost?

I find a steam milk-frother helps a lot, and I like Espresso.

personally not keen on having to buy special pods.

tostaky · 14/06/2012 14:44

Piglet, what i meant is i dont want to have the espresso thing in which you put the ground coffee in, twist it to the machine, then after you've done, it needs to be emptied and cleaned.
We had one of these (a gift) and it broke after a few months of use.
i would likesomething easier, simpler and less messy.

im not too keen on buying pods of coffee either, especially on having o buy from the same brand (a bit like apple and itune) but if it means, i have great tasty coffe, fuss-free and mess-free,then i will.

im not a coffee connaisseur (id rather drink wine!), i just like a cup or 2 of latte a day. :)

PigletJohn · 14/06/2012 16:27

'mmm

you could try a cafetiere, like a glass jug with a push down sieve. You will have to wash the grounds away after. You can get them in 1-mug sizes. Supermarkets often have own-brands that are indistinguishable from a Bodum.

or even simpler, a coffee pot, you use it just like a teapot, but you will need a small sieve to strain the grounds out as you pour.

tostaky · 14/06/2012 17:28

But my DP likes espressos!! Wink

I adore our Nespresso machine.

Whyisitsodifficult · 14/06/2012 19:57

My partner swears by the Francis Francis X7. It uses capsules, so is quick and clean and he says illy is the best coffee you can buy! It has a steam wand which froths milk at the push of a button, so perfect for your latte or cappuccino! I hate coffee so I don't know!

Sleepwhenidie · 14/06/2012 20:14

I think they also do tassimo in Selfridges too, don't know if you can sample the coffee like the nespresso but I'm sure staff could advise on comparison.

Nespresso milk frother is easy and quick, different whisks for cappuccino or latte. Only does one cup worth of milk at a time but I rarely make more than two coffees at a time so that is ok.

tostaky · 14/06/2012 21:45

I will be going tomorrow morning to selfridges and will report on what I bought.
I'm pretty set on the latissomo though.
I do like the look of the Francis Francis too!
Can't wait to be able to have latte on tap!!!GrinGrin

We got a tassimo for using at work, really not impressed with the quality of coffee, the coffee just tasted like it would if you made a mug of instant, also the milk pods you get to make latte and hot chocolate tasted like war milk, real aftertaste of long life milk. I much prefer my cafetiere or a now old fashioned standard percolator, wouldn't make lattes and cappuccino's obviously though.
