I have decided to buy myself a dishwasher never had one before but I am sick to the back teeth of being attached to the kitchen sink with no end in sight! Anyway I have a small kitchen and think if I move the dryer into the large hall cupboard I could fit it in beside the washer where the pipes and stuff are? I'm looking at this one www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4786715/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CKitchen+and+laundry%7C14418476/c_2/2%7C14418476%7CDishwashers%7C14418677/c_3/3%7Ccat a I think it would fit better than a full sized one. My DP and DM say it is laziness that I want one and nothing wrong with washing up not them doing my bloody washing up and say it is a luxury product I don't need and once the novelty has worn off it will go unused do you find you don't use yours?

I use mine every day (twice or more if we have a roast dinner!). It is not a novelty and I will never give it up!!

MarkStretch · 11/06/2012 16:31

LOVE my dishwasher.

Yep, and I am sooooo bored of my washing machine I've gone back to washing clothes by hand too. And a vacuum cleaner? I mean really, why bother.

My dishwasher is broken :( Don't buy Rangemaster (you bastards!!!). I feel like I am spending half my life standing by the sink. I've actually RUN OUT of dishcloths Confused

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 11/06/2012 22:33

Siemens make good dish washers .
I recently got one. It has really reduce the stress in our home !

QueenOfPlaguegroup · 11/06/2012 22:34

When my dishwasher broke down I lasted less than 24 hours before ordering a new one... I do vaguely remember the days before I owned one, thinking they were a bit poncey and frivolous. I was wrong!

Dollydowser · 11/06/2012 22:51

The trouble with dishwashers is they aren't big enough! I am having my old one plumbed into the garage so when I have my new kitchen soon I will have 2 Grin
I agree Siemens are good. One advantage with them is the cutlery goes on a flat pull out try at the top so leaving more room on the bottom where there normally is a cutlery basket, therefore fitting in more pans etc.

Ponders · 11/06/2012 23:04

If I had to choose between d/w & washer I would choose washer

but I still adore my d/w, it keeps the kitchen tidy (ish) & it washes things so well Smile

I would get a Bosch or Siemens over a Beko though

housebyariver · 11/06/2012 23:09

A dishwasher is essential!! Dishes are washed in far hotter water than by hand washing. My first dishwasher arrived 3 weeks after my first baby and was fixed far quicker than any other appliance in the house.

Now I have the real luxury of two dishwashers in my kitchen, used alternately so the china, glasses etc never go into a cupboard.

Riversidegirl · 11/06/2012 23:12

Mine broke down three months after the yearly warranty had run out. I was going to get the repair man in and a friend told me about the Sales of Goods Act that was mentioned on the One Show (google it)

I argued my rights with the seller (a large DIY store) and after having proof from the repair man that the damage was due to a faulty machine and nothing we had done all repairs were paid by store - RESULT!!!!

Mine was a integral Candy. My best one was a freestanding Bosch. I miss this one Sad

Every one should be aware of this Act and not be fooled into buying useless insurance when you could already be covered by the law.

IWishIWasAFrog · 11/06/2012 23:14

Luuuuurve my dishwasher, I refuse to wash anything by hand, dishwasher so much more economical!

I can highly recommend the Bosch Logixx dw, the one with the cutlery tray right at the top, saves loads of space for other things and is very water-wise.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 11/06/2012 23:28

It's the equivalent of having a washing machine as opposed to washing by hand.
You will love it.

I don't know about that make though, I've had Bosch and now smeg and can recommend them. Bosch I had to leave in last house as it was integral.

One thing though, don't be fooled by the washing tablets that say they have salt and rinse aid built in. A repair man once told me these are introduced at various stages of the washing cycle for a reason and the all in one tablets dont work as well. And never ever put fairy liquid or similar in it.

I look forward to your I Love My Dishwasher thread!

DH bought me a dishwasher for my very first mothers day Smile

People ask me why I haven't divorced h for doing this, but he was thinking ahead. He knew I was going back to FT work and thd dishwasher would afford me and him extra time with dd1

Best present ever IMHO Grin

e1y1 · 11/06/2012 23:44

Use our dishwasher every single day or near enough every single day.

Its not lazy to have one. Its an household appliance, that assists in the smooth running of a home :o

The main advantage to having one, is that when the dishwasher is doing the dishes; the time that's not spent at the sink washing by hand can be used getting on with other household cleaning such as hoovering, dusting, mopping etc - this is what we do anyway. When you have done the other stuff the dishwashers finished, ready to unload then usually ready to fill again in what seems like almost straightaway Then everything's done (well for at least an hour until the next time Wink)

our dishwasher = best Xmas present ever.

What could be more precious than time, and mrope time is what you will have :)

sagenod · 12/06/2012 00:07

Got my first ever dishwasher a few months ago and I wouldn't be without it for the world. FWIW it is a second hand old Whirlpool one and it is BRILLIANT :)

Slight hijack though-all in one tablets, or salt, powder and rinse aid or all or a combination? Have no clue!

Seona1973 · 12/06/2012 08:10

I use all in one tablets (buy in special offer) plus salt and rinse aid

OneLittleBabyTerror · 12/06/2012 09:34

Anyone who sees having a dishwasher as lazy, ask them if they want to live without a washing machine? It's just as lazy not to do all your laundry by hand isn't it?

I use finish all in one tablet plus salt. But I live in a very very hard water area. I reckon you can skip the salt if your area aren't so bad.

Belmo · 12/06/2012 09:42

I actually dream of getting a dishwasher (nowhere to put it in shit rented house) who cares if it's lazy?! I loathe washing dishes.

I love my dishwasher - the difference it makes to the general state of my kitchen and the joy afforded by never having to have the 'whose turn is it', conversation are worth every penny. If it broke I would sell my soul or, if necessary, the children to get it repaired or replaced.

CasperGutman · 13/06/2012 13:57

Whether you need salt etc depends on where you live.

My parents live in vthe Peak District and their water is as soft as can be. They use plain powder with no salt or rinse aid, and everything sparkles. Their last dishwasher lasted 17 years, used daily.

I use all-in-one tablets (the Aldi ones that won the Which? Best Buy thing) plus salt and rinse aid, as I live in an area with really hard water.

thecinnamongiraffe · 13/06/2012 14:44

I have gone to great lengths to fit a dishwasher into my kitchen! Now I have even had days where I have cooked the DC's a proper dinner and have managed to sit down with my feet up by 7.30, unheard of before the dishwasher arrived (I am a lone parent to 3).

The only problem that I now have is that I need to decorate my front room as soon as possible, I actually sit down in there now and have noticed how awful it is.

Definitely buy one, if you are pulling a dryer out into another room could you not fit a full size one in? Even if it was a squeeze it might be worth it as they are not that much more money.
