How do you work up the enthusiasm to clean a bathroom?

I should have thouroughly cleaned mine this week and couldn't be *rsed. It's not horrific but there's hair in the plugholes etc. Yuk!

What inspires you to do the big clean in any room?

I think of my most OCD/horrified-by-a-stray-hair BFF coming to visit - that has me at it with a scrubby toothbrush!

joanofarchitrave · 10/06/2012 21:27

Inviting MIL over.

The smell of stale wee.

Beamur · 10/06/2012 21:28

I do regular mini-cleans of the essentials in the bathroom a couple of times a week - usually while DD is in the bath, so she splashes about and I clean and when I notice the corners looking a bit grim, or clumps of dust and hair collecting on the floor, I give it a more thorough clean.
A big clean is usually inspired by simply having enough time to do it, or impending guests.

EclecticShock · 10/06/2012 21:29

People visiting :)

EclecticShock · 10/06/2012 21:29

Or sometimes I just cannot bear it any longer :)

StateofConfusion · 10/06/2012 21:32

I buy beer and bribe dp to do it.

Riversidegirl · 10/06/2012 21:44

Grin StateofConfusion!

I invite a friend or relative with a really clean house over for coffee. Potential shame of not cleaning is the only surefire motivator!

Riversidegirl · 10/06/2012 22:18

Actually..I often have a lager when I iron. Only to replace the fluids I've lost with the heat you understand. Grin

Riversidegirl That is the only way ironing gets done in this house Grin

Bathroom cleaning motivation - I do it while I'm still all wet. By the time I've done, I'm dry.

ClaireBunting · 10/06/2012 22:21

You don't need enthusiasm. You do it in zombie mode.

Take radio in whilst you do it
set timer 15 minutes
imagine someone seeing it---better do mine then!

Iggly · 11/06/2012 07:44

Clean it every few days. Wash bath/shower while I'm in there. Sink - after I've brushed teeth. Floor gets done once a week. So it's not being cleaned all in one go, just little and often.

You could get a hair catcher thing for the plug hole?

MrsNouveauRichards · 11/06/2012 07:50

Actually the bathroom is the first room I do if I need to do housework because it is the smallest and there is less crap in there! :o

lucytails · 11/06/2012 12:05

The bathroom is the ONE place i like to be clean, and rather sadly enough i actually quite like cleaning the bathroom, probably because i like it when its all nice and clean. I do one big clean of the bathroom once a week. In between i wipe the bath/shower after i have got out or when kids get out. Sink gets wiped quickly after i brush my teeth before i go bed. Toilets gets bleached every couple of days either before i get in bath/shower or whilst i watch over kids in the bath. Downstairs loo gets bleached before i do the morning school run. I find doing little bits here and there means it takes a max 10 minutes to clean the main bathroom for the big clean including mopping the floor.

wigglybeezer · 11/06/2012 18:02

Inlaws/ parents coming over does it for me, I also sometimes give it a good clean if I have the rare opportunity for an uninterrupted, reading in the bath, Lo Malone bath oil soak.

Riversidegirl · 11/06/2012 22:45

When I do get round to cleaning it I feel like putting a lock on the outside and only allowing people to use it if they tiptoe over the floor and promise not to behave like a duck when using the sink. Do you think I have issues? Grin

OP posts:
mummmsy · 12/06/2012 19:40

Riversidegirl behave like a duck - i literally just pissed myself laughing at that!

Rainydayagain · 12/06/2012 20:08

Clean it every other day, takes only a few min.
Wipe loo and sink daily, use hand towel to swipe at floor after children have drenched floor.
Like others clean shower everytime i use it, takes mins when you do it like this. Helps if you keep products handy and e cloths rock.

Big clean and bleach once a month.

Does anyone walk around barefoot? Even in a clean house, your feet get a bit grubby (well, if you have small children and/or pets) and as soon as you get in the shower there are grubby marks all over the bath. This is especially bad if I have been wearing flip flops. Does that make sense? Also, bleach doesn't really cut through the grease very well, so it makes it look clean, but there could be grease still there. I use cheap bio washing powder in a full bath of water for half hour, quick scrub and very good rinse. I do this about once every 6weeks - 2months, and usual clean inbetween.

Iggly · 13/06/2012 07:57

TSC you need to clean the bath after every use. Just a quick spray and wipe down is enough. It's a good habit to get into - Mum used to shout tell us to do it every time

StealthPolarBear · 13/06/2012 08:01

Can one of you "clean the sink after every use" people please explain what cloth you use? Does it lurk in the bathroom next to your toothbrushes? Or do you go to your cloth store nd get it every time? Do you not then find you have to put all the cleaning stuff away and wash your hands afterwards making a quick teeth brush a big job?

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/06/2012 08:20

Yy to inviting someone over!
