How do you work up the enthusiasm to clean a bathroom?

I should have thouroughly cleaned mine this week and couldn't be *rsed. It's not horrific but there's hair in the plugholes etc. Yuk!

What inspires you to do the big clean in any room?

Having visitors stay overnight normally generates an enormous cleaning spree in this house. It's when I look at my house through other people's eyes that I get motivated. Enthusiasm is a big word though, I don't think that goes in the same sentence as 'cleaning bathroom'.

I have an e cloth for the sink, it is hung on the shower top with a diluted spray gun. ( have toddlers)

I clean the loo with spray gun plus kitchen roll, wipe and flush.

I clean the sink but with cloth, its just reach, spray, wipe.

Little and often really works for me.

I have visiotors ( play dates) weekly, it is what made me sort my house out and keep it clean.

My friends all have cleaners (6 hrs p week) and spotless houses.

Hey Stealth, I have found that if I don't keep the cleaning stuff in the bathroom then it doesn't get done.

My microfibre cloths for the sink and paper towel and spray bottle of diluted disinfectant/soap etc and cheapo bleach cleaner for the toilet live under the sink.(no littlies here)

I do the same as Rainy - I think its a flylady thing.

Iggly · 13/06/2012 08:48

Stealth we have an e cloth for the bathroom sink which mean I only need water. Can do that every day. Every few days I get the spray out, spray sink while I'm in the shower then rinse when finished showering. Spray lives under the cupboard, cloth on radiator then once dry goes under sink again.

Is it me or does one strand of hair seem to follow you round the whole time you clean? I try to wash the cloth and just as I think it's safe to wipe another surfice "THE HAIR!" appears grinning at me AGAIN!!! Angry

Yes! I've got that same hair here too Angry

Riversidegirl · 15/06/2012 20:38

Do you think the hairs come compulsory with the cloths?

inspiration from another thread - when the entire household has worms! hellllooo bleach?!?!?

Riversidegirl · 16/06/2012 06:41

Do you believe in loo brushes? If so, how do you keep them clean...if you know what I mean Wink. I'm trying to keep mine clean by not allowing my husband to use it in case visitors need it!

i squirt bleach down, scrub, then leave the loo brush sitting in the loo water with the bleach before i come back maybe an half hour or so later and put the brush back in its holder and flush the loo.

LCarbury · 16/06/2012 09:32

I bought a steam cleaner, it is quite an exciting gadget [saddo]

Just spent about 1.5 hours doing big clean of bathroom and loos this afternoon so very topical to find this! It had got really bad...I had to do one of the sinks because it had got completely blocked up by something black growing down the plughole. That is just so disgusting I am ashamed of myself. Normally, I have found that doing 5 or 10 mins at a time means that it never builds up to a huge effort and you can then get away with doing a big clean (like the one I did today) just every 4 or 5 weeks. I have higher standards for the downstairs loo usually in case someone comes and uses it!

What is an e cloth?

About the loo brushes...if I get really manic/they get really disgusting, I have in the past soaked them in a bucket of bleach stood in the bath and that seemed to work. I generally buy the cheapest loo brushes I can find so that if need be I can just throw them away and replace them.

Riversidegirl · 16/06/2012 21:49

I found a loo brush in a shiney silver holder today for £2.99! I can afford to replace often at that price! I shudda bought 10 to have some in!

I hate the ones without lids...Yeuk!

This blog post might be useful in getting a bit of a cleaning rhythm going.

I LOVE cleaning the bathroom (s) IMO they are the one room where you can see the results of your hard work.

I do little and often- spray clean the bath and basin every other day, quick wipe round the loo and floor. Admit it's our en suite and no kids at home now.

Once a week I go over the floor and clean the skirting boards, and the mirror. it's a big room- around 15 feet by 7.

redglow · 19/06/2012 19:55

I use old clothes to clean the bathroom and then throw them Away.

Ambi · 19/06/2012 20:15

Loo brush is in a porcelain holder with bleach water in it.

Bathroom clean is easy, bleach toilet before bed. Spray sink and toilet before shower with cleaner. Scrub bath with shower gel/ shampoo whilst in the shower and rinse then wipe down sink and toilet with kitchen roll and flush away. A quick swish with toilet brush. Then once you are dry, wipe down bath with towel. Takes about 3 minutes every few days. Thanks to Flylady.
