I'm tidying round the house today (DH, 3x DDs and 1 DS plus pets!) and I'm tutting away at the stupid but very annoying things they keep bloody doing ...
DH always puts dirty laundry on top of the laundry bin lid. Drives me bloody crazy! What drives you mad in the battle against tidy houses?

I have the opposite problem IWant nobody ever moves anything. Sad OPlus nobody feeds the cat or the fish. Angry

notcitrus · 05/05/2012 20:02

People who eat cereal and leave some in the bottom of the bowl. I don't believe in forcing clean plates but seriously, three cornflakes is not going to hurt you. And it's every sodding time!

And those who put cutlery in the dishwasher in the short compartments for teaspoons only. And the 'helpful' family who just have no clue how to load a dishwasher so the dishes get clean.

wonkylegs · 05/05/2012 20:13

DH leaves his dirty laundry next to the laundry basket & his breakfast bowl on the side next to an open dishwasher which he has to step over to get to where he leaves his bowl. I tried leaving it but ialwaysgive in before he does. Angry

mrspink27 · 05/05/2012 20:33

The pile at the bottom of the stairs which apparently no one is qualified to take up except me. Even if I make the piles so enormous it requires crampons to scale them - still they are left!!
A greasy pan or sink full of cold greasy washing up water to greet me in the kitchen in the morning and I have to put my hand in to pull the plug out.
DH unstacking and restacking the dishwasher the "correct" way on his return from work. Almost like a compulsion.
DDs not flushing the loo.
Leaving clean kitchen items unstacked from dishwasher on the work top above the cupboard where they live.
The trail of clothes, bags, shoes and other bits as they are deposited or removed by the DDs when they enter the house, all hung on the floor.
Coats hung on the back of the dining room chairs. The coat hooks are 6 ft away... make the walk FFS (DH!)

And breathe....

ANiceCupofTeaandASitDown · 05/05/2012 21:10

My DH always left clothes on the lid of the laundry basket, my solution was to remove the lid. Clever plan I thought.... except now he just stands the other side of the bed and throws his clothes in the general direction of the basket. Usually missing. He also balls his socks up to help his aim despite me asking him soooo many times to split them otherwise they go into the machine in a ball and usually straight into the dryer in the same state, then come out wet. Grrrr. Just grrrr.

liveinazoo · 05/05/2012 21:17

putting empty cereal boxes back in the cupboard[gah]
laundry everywhere but basket
clean ironed clothes rifled through drawers so when are worn look like slept in
using more than 3 squirts of handwash per wash
not flushing toilet

liveinazoo · 05/05/2012 21:18

just thought better add thats dcs not flushing and only after number 1s!

ragged · 05/05/2012 21:29

DH ranting at DC about leaving food detritus in lounge... and then he (DH) leaves food detritus in lounge Hmm.
Shoes & coats & toys not put away.

33goingon64 · 05/05/2012 21:30

Another DH here who can't be bothered to lift the lid of the laundry basket. Every morning I pick his clothes up and put them in. One day I will just stop doing it and he'll drown in his own dirty pants Grin

Also:
Never puts away shoes or hangs up coats.
Never carries dirty cups or glasses in to the kitchen.
Never rinses out empty milk bottles or juice cartons (but always puts the lid back on so I have to take the lid off as well as throw the lid away, rinse the bottle and put it in the recycling).
Never carries things upstairs even when he goes up empty handed.
Never gets on with loading car while I am seeing to DS or doing last minute things before going away somewhere, always waits til we are ready and then spends half an hour loading car by which time DS needs another nappy change...
Protests when I suggest doing a chore at the weekend, but when he decides to do a chore I am meant to be full of admiration and be ready with a medal...

I could go on but I won't, as I should be grateful he does do most things well, eventually!

33goingon64 · 05/05/2012 21:33

Oh and doesn't wipe up splashed wee off the toilet or the floor. And doesn't rinse his toothbrush properly so it always has a crust on the handle. Nice.

Pumpster · 05/05/2012 21:35

I'm sure dp would say 'leaving tissues in pockets'

IWantMyHatBack · 05/05/2012 21:45

My DP would say 'never does hoovering or bathroom cleaning' Grin

PinkPanther27 · 05/05/2012 22:37

Dirty clothes left wherever he takes them off with boxers and socks still inside trousers (then moaning when I wash stuff that it isnt dirty - apparently I am supposed to be able to distinguish between dirty and clean clothes on the floor....)
Leaving drawers open
Leaving empty deodorant cans in the bathroom
Leaving empty toilet roll inners in the bathroom and moving the new roll to somewhere really awkward to reach
Putting used cotton buds down the toilet
Leaving dirty washing up water in the bowl with the sponge

GrossePopel · 05/05/2012 23:02

I drive DH mad with my amazing ability to tidy things away hide them and then completely forget where I put them.

I'm also rubbish at replacing the phone to its charger and hence regularly lose the phone.

He is incapable of putting the tea towel on the radiator to dry and instead rolls it in a ball and puts it on top of the radiator and e is also incapable of putting the recycling in the bin (leaves it on the worktop). Angry

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/05/2012 23:14

Tidying away is fucking irritating. Stop it forthwith Grin

tentative123 · 05/05/2012 23:18

Using too much loo roll.

MushroomSoup · 05/05/2012 23:21

This thread is hilarious! I hope you all feel better for getting it off your chest!

Just thought of another one...DH used to leave empty shower gel/shampoo/deodorant cans on the bathroom windowsill...obviously I ended up bringing them downstairs to the bin. 2 weeks ago I ingeniously managed to fit a small bin into our tiny bathroom by hiding it in a cupboard and rearranging all the shelves. Showed him the bin as proud of myself as if I'd pulled off a magic trick and yes, he was suitably impressed.
But not that fucking impressed because he's still leaving rubbish on the windowsill. Aaarrrggghhh!

Unflushed toilets, toothpaste dribbles in and around the sink...

...and leaving tiny bits of lego lying around which only I seem to step on!

Other than that I am definitely the messy one in our house and responsible for the laundry/ironing mountain which is threatening to avalanche any day now!

Chirpychick2010 · 05/05/2012 23:24

Skivingagain yes yes that so hits a cord! Are you in my house? Wink Dirty washing left on landing for me to take down to machine why do we put up with it? Some one please tell me???? Oh yeah were daft, well i am Blush

VickityBoo · 05/05/2012 23:25

Tea bags in the sink puke then I wonder why the water won't drain.

Chirpychick2010 · 05/05/2012 23:26

Is hoping dh does not decide to list our bad points!!!!! Ahhhh short list me thinks hehe

BaronessBomburst · 05/05/2012 23:27

Coming down for breakfast in the mornings, and finding the worktop strewn with bits of muesli. Probably not more than six or seven flakes but every morning! It irritates the hell out of me.

TheFarSide · 05/05/2012 23:29

Leaving empty bags in the fridge.

Leaving the lid of the toilet wet wipes open to indicate to me that they have run out and I should refill the box.

Plus many of the aforementioned.

VickityBoo · 05/05/2012 23:29

Oh baroness...sugar all over the worktop near the kettle in the morning.

Also, an apparent super tidy oh who just chucks things anywhere in cupboards and drawers...all cutlery in in one go for example, leaving me to sort it out when rushing to get a fork for dinner.

TheFarSide · 05/05/2012 23:31

Putting used cereal bowls in the sink but not filling them with water so the cereal dries out and sets in the bowl like rock.

Leaving teaspoons lying upwards so tea/coffee pools in them and forms a little ring which has to be scrubbed off.
