Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:32

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

CarpeJugulum · 09/05/2012 22:20

Bugger.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/05/2012 22:36

Was it you who we went through this with last month Flying? . Anyway, hope it turns out the way you want it to.

A nice evening here, DS decided he wanted to bake cakes while DD was at Rainbows, he hasn't shown apart from decorating for a long time, so that was nice. Then we all decorated them together after tea. He is having trouble sleeping at the moment and appeared again just as the News at Ten was starting so we had a good look at the Queen and Parliament on telly and a chat about how the country works

I'm off to bed now, having achieved fairly minimal Flying. I'm working at home tomorrow, so a chance to catch up.

Flyingwithoutwings · 09/05/2012 22:37

Set your alarm for 9pm Fri, result should have been posted by then Wink

Anyone seen toffee?

Hope you are OK toffee

ToffeeWhirl · 09/05/2012 23:52

Blimey, I go away from this thread for one day and look at the place! Cake crumbs and empty wine glasses everywhere! And as for the chat.... Has anyone had any time to Fly?

Very quick roundup/personals:

Honu - Grin at you losing your CO2 alarm in clutter. I have a spare if you want a replacement (ordered two by mistake). In answer to your question, I have a Dymo LetraTag labelmaker like this .

Feet - yes, DS is having some breakthroughs at the moment. We usually have a bad day after a good one, but at least it's progress overall. Don't get down about your decluttering - 15 mins a day, remember.

Bitchy - Happy Birthday! Great idea to buy your own cake - you shouldn't have to make your own cake. I always buy my own too. Hope you had a good day.

Blue - Envy that you did the fridge mission. Re decluttering - see above!

feedmecake - welcome to the thread. The babysteps will teach you your morning and evening routines, don't worry. Looks like you've had a very productive first day, particularly as you are juggling a new baby (not literally, of course).

foad - welcome to the thread too. Grin at you procrastinating on anti-procrastination day. Looks like you've had a good first day too.

Carpe - sorry, that organisation thread is very distracting, isn't it? Sorry to hear you and DS are under the weather. Hope you're both better soon and that you get a good sleep tonight. Argh at the nappy in the w/machine!

SC - oh dear, sounds a bit stressful round your place. How frustrating that the ironing woman didn't turn up too. Will she come soon or does that mean you have to wait another two weeks?

lauren - welcome back! Funnily enough, I was thinking about you recently too and wondering what had happened. That's the odd thing about MN - when people disappear, you have no way of finding out what's happened to them. I'm glad to hear you sound so upbeat about your new life. Sounds like it has all worked out for the best for you, in spite of the stress and upset.

NickNacks -

WhoKnows - how are you feeling now? You do seem to be doing a lot (too much) considering your condition. Lovely that you made cakes with your DS today.

Engels - I hope you are catching up on sleep tonight. I'm always hopeless at Flying if I haven't slept properly.

thewaffler - am in awe at you doing exercises before you do the school run and go to work. You really are a 'well-oiled machine'! Whoopee at your MIL doing Flying for you Grin.

MoreCats - well done to your DD on achieving her 'to do'. Like Flying, it's all about babysteps.

Castle Don't worry about having a bad day. We all have them. Flylady says just jump back in again.

Flyingwithoutwings - ooh, exciting! Let us know

Phew. Hope I haven't left anyone out and apologies if I have. Off to find the links now....

MoreCats - I'm here! Thanks for thinking of me. Was updating myself on today's thread activities (it took some time Wink).

Day 10 of the babysteps - you can do anything for 15 minutes.

Thursday's flight plan is here. Thursday is errand day. The mission involves wiping down your kitchen appliances.

See you all tomorrow. I have a busy day lined up, so don't worry if I'm not on during the day. I'll pop on later to update the links.

Morning all

Quick visit, out all morning so want to get loads done before school run.

Yesterday got rid of our old suite and got lovely new ones from a neighbour, me and DP aching now from unaccustomed lifting!

Got a phone call from council yesterday saying they had no identity paperwork for any of us so running into town with Dc's birth certificates and mine and DP's passport and then back to the community centre for maths at 9:30! Hmm

Done

Washing machine on
Breakfast 2/3
dressed to slippers

To do

Make beds
Wipe windows
Sort out which bags for charity shop or clothes bank ( really should label before tying them up!)
Town
Maths
Lunch
Online banking
Continue sorting paperwork

That's enough 4 one day! Grin

Will try and get back on here at lunch time after looking at previous posts. Blush

Off to set timer and get moving.

Have a good day everyone.

CarpeJugulum · 10/05/2012 07:09

Morning all.

DS is sick. I feel a bit crap; and he only wanted me last night.

Flying will be at a minimum today, and toddlers has been cancelled.

I have (of course!) shed loads of job work to do, so today should be interesting.

Pass the Brew!

feedmecake · 10/05/2012 07:55

Morning all! I have back ache this morning as a result of carying baby in her sling for some of the day so will have to find an alternative to carrying the little monkey round with me. However, I have a shiny sink!

My mum's visiting today which will either work in my favour and she'll jiggle her granddaughter whilst I run round, or not at all and we'll both drink too much tea and natter all afternoon.

Like a good girl, I'm aimimng for the former. Here's my to do list for today;

beds made
finish hob
finish fridge
finish bathroom
wipe down appliances
declutter lounge
washing
dishwasher
washing up
baby as required
cook tea
email man about pictures
chuck out dead plant
pick up prescription
all bins out
visit nursery
take stuff to charity shop
organise social stuff for tomorrow
organise to get broken toilet fixed

Better get on withn it!

BlueEyeshadow · 10/05/2012 08:01

Carpe - Brew coming up! Hope today improves.

Planning to be out most of the day but will try and do the mission...

Waves and runs out again.

feedmecake · 10/05/2012 08:28

beds made
finish hob hoorah! I should have taken a picture of it, it was disgusting.

feedmecake · 10/05/2012 08:29

Posted too soon. Still not bad for 8.30.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/05/2012 09:07

Morning all,

OK, work at home today. I only need to do about an hour, so I need to make a list for the rest of the day.

Ta-da!

DCs to school
DW emptied and breakfast dishes in
Swish and swipe

To do

About 3 lots of washing
Hotspots
Sweep kitchen floor
Bring bins back round from front
An hour of OU work
Dr's appointment
School run
DCs to tennis
Out tonight for a quiz evening

Toffee - thanks for your concern, I basically can't do any heavy lifting, so DH is doing things like emptying the kitchen bin (Brabantia, needs a lot of pulling to get the bags out) and anything that requires furniture to be moved, also putting out the full wheely bins. Walking isn't great, so I am using the car more than usual and I have had to give up running, which does at least free up some time. We have Ocado so the heavy shopping is taken care of.

I've got my over 40s health check at the GP this morning, I feel nervous! What if I've got high blood pressure or diabetes or something? They are going to tell me off for being overweight. I can feel my blood pressure going up as we speak!

thewaffler · 10/05/2012 10:09

Need to be disciplined need to be disciplined need to be disciplined....

'Working from home' today, in the past this was code for 'not working' and massive procrastination but need to be.firm with myself as can't fit work i haven't done into evening. Actually working from mums house whilst she has dc at mine, so less distraction, but its 10am and I'm yet to start.....aggggh. I can't log on to desk top at work remotely so waiting for download to fix it, hence this is legit posting.

whoknows take care with that prolapse, ouchy ouch

Flaps wings at everyone else, better get back to it

foad · 10/05/2012 10:34

Morning all (waving)

Have just surfaced after hour and a half on phone to friend who was crying because it is her daughters last day at secondary school today. Suspect that will be me in a couple of months when DD1 finishes Y6 Blush.

Today I will:
Write my thankyou letters
Write DD1's thankyou letters (he's just 5) for him to sign later
Wipe down appliances
Start decluttering dining room Hmm
Eat fruit rather than crap
Load of washing right through to putting it away
Swishy swipey kitchen and bathroom
Find something for supper

Carpe have a Brew - it's nearly the weekend...

CarpeJugulum · 10/05/2012 10:41

Oh deep joy!!!

DS is pooing for Britain (thank god for MNet product tests, the Metanium Barrier Cream is coming into its own!), but has let me do my daily WAH job. Work has emailed through a PDF of the report I need and I've found that its only one column on my export/import that is buggered, so an hour to fix - not a whole evening; and I'm hoping DS will conk out for a good nap.

Could be worse...

feedmecake · 10/05/2012 11:08

The nursery visit went really well. I've got another one booked for tomorrow morning but I honestly think it will be hard for them to trump the one I've just seen. I'd be really comfortable leaving her with them for a day a week.

Anyone else had experience of putting DC in nursery for a day per week at 11 months old. I'm wondering whether I need to think more carefully about managing her sepatation anxiety at that age- ie, put her in earlier for a few hours from 8 months or, put her in two mornings a week instead of a full day once a week for example.

CarpeJugulum · 10/05/2012 11:37

Haven't had any experience with this sorry! My DS is 19mo and I'm lucky in that I can work from home so I don't need a nursery - but part of me thinks I should maybe try it. Mind you, if I did that, my salary would be wiped out, we'd have to move and not eat... may stick to playgroups! Wink

However, those friends whose DC have settled well did build them up - I know of one friend who just went straight into a full day; her DC was hysterical and never settled so her mum does the childcare now. Maybe just the specific child though.

CarpeJugulum · 10/05/2012 11:39

Oh, and meant to say that (despite being on holiday) my IT manager kicked the programmers arse, I had the update just after my 10.40 post, and my work is now done.

Wine for me tonight!
