So, ds did a squitty poo in the bath. What's the best way of cleaning the MASSIVE Lego boat he was playing with at the time?

TMI (sorry) There were no solids, but the boat has been floating in... poo water. What can I clean it with that won't be a problem when ds plays with it (puts it in his mouth!). It is a massive police boat with about a million pieces...

Have you a diswasher?

GretaGip · 21/04/2012 21:14

Tie it in pillow case and then in washing machine?

ByTheSea · 21/04/2012 21:14

DH just suggested dishwasher with no other contents in.

thisisyesterday · 21/04/2012 21:14

will he reallly put it in his mouth? can't imagine a child old enough to play with lego wanting to actually put it in his mouth?

anyway, that's irrelevant... i would just soak the pieces in anti-bac soap or something.
or clean with hot soapy water and then soak in some boiling water?

thisisyesterday · 21/04/2012 21:15

i vaguely remember reading something bad about lego and dishwashers.... but maybe someone will come on and say they've tried it

Gigondas · 21/04/2012 21:16

Bucket of Milton to soak in?

LydiaWickham · 21/04/2012 21:17

Dishwasher on 'gentle' setting. Buy a new one.

BuckBuckMcFate · 21/04/2012 21:17

The dishwasher? Shock

If it was me I would have to take it apart, soak in hot soapy water with a good squirt of bleach in it. Put the bits in a colander to rinse thoroughly. Then put it all in a pillowcase and take it outside and windmill it dry.

Dishwasher would be easier in comparison but then it would be infected with poo germs!

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 21/04/2012 21:17

Gigondas I was just going to say bucket of miltons or similar over night after a bloody good wash - I wouldn't machine wash - imagine if a bit got loose?

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 21/04/2012 21:20

Clean with antibacterial soap and then soak in milton.

Do not put in dishwasher. That makes me feel really sick.

DilysPrice · 21/04/2012 21:20

I can't imagine being happy putting my plates in the dishwasher after I'd washed a load of shitty Lego there - I know it should be hot enough to sterilise, but......
I'd leave it in the bath, rinse and rinse again. Leave them to soak in Nappisan in the bath overnight, then put in 40 degree cycle in washing machine (in a bag) with bio washing powder, then repeat with no powder.

Also, ewwwwwwwwww.

fengirl1 · 21/04/2012 21:22

A good 'shower off' if you have one then soak in a bucket with disinfectant. Rinse off and leave to dry!

CatPower · 21/04/2012 21:22

Put all the bits in a pillowcase, tie a tight knot in it so no bits can escape and put it through the washing machine (I'd bung in a big cap of Dettol too, in one of those in-drum lid things you get with liquid detergent), then hang the whole lot outside to dry.

BaDaBing · 21/04/2012 21:23

Dishwasher and then once it's been though put one of these cleaners through the dishwasher.

thisisyesterday · 21/04/2012 21:24

where were you all when i was the ONLY poster telling someone it was rank to wash a potty in a dishwasher?

chezchaos · 21/04/2012 21:25

I'd scrub it with shampoo and an old toothbrush/nailbrush then soak it in a bucket of Milton

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 21/04/2012 21:31

A potty...in a dishwasher?

I am never eating at anyone else's house ever again.

Spink · 21/04/2012 21:40

Wow, thanks for all the responses! On a rational level I can see the dishwasher makes sense but it just feels too wrong. I think I'm going to go for putting it in a pillowcase and into the washing machine. Dh thinks I should "just run it under the shower". I think he may be trying to avoid taking the whole thing apart and putting it back together again..

we have had something like this,i showered it all to death and the put it all in a pillowcase and tied a knot in it and put it in the washing machine, have done this with duplo bricks as well, it works fine :)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/04/2012 21:49

Throw it all in the bin and get another set. Please don't put it in the dishwasher.

Springforward · 21/04/2012 22:03

Scrub with hot water and washing up liquid until visibly clean (have you got an old toothbrush?), then sterilise afterwards with milton. Will be fine.

Spink · 21/04/2012 22:18

5madthings and Spring, glad we're not the only ones! Poor ds, he was mortified. Has a bit of a dodgy tum and thought he was just having a harmless trump Grin

OP posts:
Nagoo · 21/04/2012 22:21

you can put lego in the washing machine. You'll have to build it again though Grin Stick it in a bag or a pair of tights :)

storminabuttercup · 21/04/2012 22:26

I've got the same issue, ds threw a rubber duck in the toilet, there was nothing in the toilet but still ....

Any ideas?
