Morning all,
Hope everyone back in the UK had a lovely Mother's Day yesterday. I tried to persuade DH that we should celebrate twice, once in March and once in May, but he wasn't having any of it.
Just back from a run, which has made my slight headache worse thanks to the wind. Am not even sure I feel any more awake. And now I have a pile of ironing to tackle - telling DH that I'd stopped ironing his shirts was probably a mistake, as he's started inspecting them more closely and has pulled four or five out of the wardrobe that need ironing.
(I know he'll iron them this evening if I don't get round to it, but it gives me an excuse to watch TV programmes that he refuses to watch in the evenings.
)
WhoKnows Hope your cold has cleared up by now. Ninety minutes of child-free shopping and a pub meal sound like bliss.
SC I used to think my German (and French) improved after alcohol too, but have come to realise that while I'm definitely more confident about speaking it after one glass of wine, it's downhill all the way if I have any more alcohol. I tend to come out with complete nonsense for some reason - I remember telling a French woman once that I enjoyed playing cards as jouer aux cartes popped into my head.
It was rather awkward when she then asked what card games I enjoyed playing.
Deciding to talk about gait analysis when I haven't a clue what it is in German and wasn't quite sober enough to explain it succintly ("it's when they video your legs") probably wasn't the greatest idea I've ever had. I was just about to start showing off my Norwegian
when DH dragged me away. I wasn't best pleased with him - nor about the fact that he didn't come to my aid when I fell over (he was striding on ahead of me). He said, "How would that have looked, if I'd had to have come back to help you up?" Well, obviously it was far better that I managed to get up, staggered on another metre or so and then fell over again.
(I must point out here that I wasn't falling-down drunk and that the slope is tricky to negotiate even when you're sober.) Oh dear, you have to laugh really (although I really, really hope that none of the neighbours noticed).
swan I discovered DD1's dyslexia certificate, which she needed for school enrolment last month, in one of our paper piles a couple of days ago. I do actually have quite a good filing system, but the problems start when I don't file paperwork straight away (which I usually don't).
ChitChat It's very satisfying when the tidying up finally starts to take less time, isn't it? We're gradually reaching that stage, but progress is slow... Unfortunately I have no idea about how to make children share nicely, but let me know if you ever find out.
nettle Sorry to hear about your meltdown on Saturday (I get those too), but
at driving back from the playpark wearing only soggy pants.
Bitchy Hope the headache is better today. I find knitting very calming; I spent about an hour knitting outside in the garden yesterday (finally got my square for the MN blanket finished) and found it very therapeutic.
Toffee Sorry you missed out on your lie-in, especially on Mother's Day - but it's lovely that your DS was so proud of the card he made for you. Hope your busy day today goes well and that you have a productive meeting with the outreach worker.
Waves to everyone else and apologies to those I've missed out, but I'll be here all morning otherwise and the ironing is calling...
