Fledglings “March” 31 steps away from CHAOS and mess towards domestic success...

sanguinechompa · 28/02/2012 22:38

... well, a shiny sink at least!!

Welcome to the March 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Linzer for steering us all through February - not a small achievement Linzer considering your school run/teaching commitments and with your dh travelling so frequently.

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, whinging (in my case anyway Wink) and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Oops - thanks for the updates and keeping us on track SC.

TimeWasting · 13/03/2012 20:59

Cheers, you might enjoy the video on here she has a few Flylady things going on and no lavender.

(warning read back and it is so
Self centred id skip to next post)

Evening all. Quick pop in as phone about to die and I have read head teacher applications ready for tomorrow's short listing at the school.

Thanks for advise Blush can't remember who about ds and winkle touching. I have spoke to him about appropriateness and have got parents eve next week.

A friend of mine told me to stop analysing his behaviour so much. He is a perfectly happy normal full of life little boy and I'm expecting too much Sad quite possible. Confused

Tada

Tidied
Wm/td shrunk my best cardigan
Dc nurseried/schooled/homework done
Clothes laid out
Gym done
All applications printed off.

Mil was livid re sofa cushion apparently it was scotch garded now I have broken the material ruined the pile and even if they get a new cushion it will never resemble the rest of sofa. Worst thing I could ever have done was wash it ConfusedSad

That did soften the blow for the fact that I have broken her iron. Haven't told her about the conservatory latch yet! Sad

They going away on Friday to a friends then to Norfolk for a break. I hope that she has a nice time and that nothing else is broken in the meantime! Sad

I also did something stupid and advised my pt at gym that I want to be doing marathon in 2014. GrinHmm any helpful get running hints great fully accepted. Grin

Hope all three of you had a lovely day. We should have a proper chit chat meet up one day with Brew and Wine we can fly in sc linzer madwomen and cq oh and cheerful if she is still about.

Must put win lottery on list or do lottery.

Hope you all have fab night. Smile

ToffeeWhirl · 13/03/2012 21:18

So lovely to meet up with you, WhoKnows and Swan! I agree - I wish we could have run off for some Wine and chat. Workshop was very useful.

Bedtime chaos here. Must go.

BitchyNoMore · 13/03/2012 21:24

Bloody hell i really do have to watch where i drop my lists. helloooo wasting no fluffy is always good. The fat one is rather too fond of her purple isn't she.

cq because it was the only time i sat down earlier.

Done
Lovely soak in sparkling bathroom
Paint nails.

Now to look at that cv and application letter. whilst waiting for the washer as i goofed up and haven't got any clean uniform for ds tomo

LinzerTorte · 13/03/2012 21:32

Just haven't been able to keep up with the thread today, I'm afraid - and also took one look at Bitchy's lists and ran away in fright. Glad to hear the mini meet-up went well, anyway.

Have had lots going round in my head today, mainly to do with DS starting school. After talking to his kindergarten teacher this morning, I'm beginning to wonder whether preschool might not be such a bad idea after all. Am hoping that our meeting with the headteacher on Thursday will help make things a little clearer.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/03/2012 21:33

Nettie so she'd rather have come back to a pissy cushion? No pleasing some people! As regards the marathon, get yourself over to this thread WhoKnows and Linzer talk about running but don't actually do much, you will find lots of support, one of our fellow runners started a year ago and has just done a half marathon, we also chat about nail varnish. I am not planning marathons, but feel a lot better when I run regularly.

cq · 14/03/2012 00:33

I did a half in Jan this year. Ruined my toenails. Have just painted over nasty hard skin where one nail used to be. Looks so much better now, and it is flip- flop weather already in Texas.

Upside of today's mega de-crap is that I have found my Garmin so will now be sure I'm not running too far or too fast. Hmm

Other strange goings on in the house - teenage son just asked if I could put lots of vegetables in tonight's curry. Shock I think he has been abducted by aliens.

Seem to be on a different flight path to y'all at the moment but will get in sync once lovely new life plan up and running. Grin

Overuse of emoticons has been known as a filing avoidance tactic.

BitchyNoMore · 14/03/2012 01:09

cq ds thanked me for tidying his room Shock i only removed the laundry and ut fresh bedding on his bed. And there was no fuss over homework. Clearly the aliens have been busy recently. Hmm

BitchyNoMore · 14/03/2012 01:10

Btw love the emoticon avoidance tactics. GrinGrin

LinzerTorte · 14/03/2012 04:56

Nettie Have you ever done any running before? If not, I'd definitely recommend Couch to 5k. And come on over to our C25k thread that WhoKnows has already linked to. It had the unexpected side effect of getting me into nail polish too, but varnish talk is optional. Grin

Re future meet-ups, I'm always up for Wine and Brew whatever the distance. Grin We're planning on coming to London again in November (and are very likely to be stamp shopping again too, swan).

sanguinechompa · 14/03/2012 06:20

Morning

Can't post about housework this morning ...

Sad Sad Sad

Awful awful news on the radio this morning - 22 Flemish school children (2 classes) + 6 adults killed in a coach accident in Swiss tunnel on the way back to Belgium from a ski trip.

Sad Sad Sad

OP posts:
sanguinechompa · 14/03/2012 06:25

Sorry Linzer didn't see you there - hope that didn't seem rude

Just in rather a shocked state to hear this awful news. Close to home. Those poor, poor parents. Sad Sad

OP posts:
coostoonettle · 14/03/2012 06:32

sc that's awful Sad poor families, poor school. SadSad

linzer november meet up it is! I'm off to that thread that you both frequent although struggle with keeping up with this one! Grin

whoknows I think the cushion was the last straw after a rubbish holiday and all her cancer treatment and fact that she has put on lots of weight. I'm off to thread. Bit scared of a running thread.

cq love emotion use.

Short listing today and tile shopping if I manage that I'll be doing well.

Have a good day.

JWIM · 14/03/2012 06:51

Morning All - very misty here.

Is't it great to come into the kitchen to a shiny, empty sink?

SC - woke up to news on Radio 4 of coach crash - so very sad/awful for too many people

Bitchy - a long, long list - hope you slept well after that lot and got DS uniform done
CQ - had a quick look at David Allen website - will have to get the book I think. Good luck with greater use of emoticons today, and some filing!

To Do
Morning Routine - up and DW done but nothing else so far
1 laundry load to wash, dry, iron and put away
Handwashing
Work - recruitment, construction project and some ruffled feathers to smooth
Haircut
Birthday cards to deliver
Dinner
Homework to supervise

Will pop back later. Have a good day.

LinzerTorte · 14/03/2012 06:59

Oh, how awful, SC. Thinking of those poor families involved. Sad

nettle The C25k thread is far easier to keep up with than this one - fewer posters and less chat, but it's a nice supportive thread. I haven't posted for a while, mainly because I've been procrastinating about getting my knee seen to, but am determined to start running again soon.

BitchyNoMore · 14/03/2012 08:26

:( Sad sad news.

Nightmare night here. I think i drank too much coffee and back was sore from everything done.

Easy day planned here.

Morning school run
Job application to go in - urgent
more laundry
lunch time school run
through lunch at ds (left overs)
file paperwork
knitting or crocheting
afternoon school run
take ds into the city to get new school shoes arsing cunting tesco
get ds to write last thankyou note.
Early night.

must move and get ds to school.

sanguinechompa · 14/03/2012 08:28

they were 11 and 12 year olds...Sad plus many more injured Sad
Turning off the news, it's all too awful ....
Makes me feel ashamed for whinging about antics of dd ...

JWIM yes!! I have to say that shiny sink is now ingrained habit (in kitchen and bathroom) and on the odd occasions when kitchen sink is full of stuff (say after entertaining late night before) it really is depressing!! Great system is working for you!!

Nettie that makes sense about your mil - it not being the cushion but everything else. Hope she is ok x I'm sorry I forgot to ask how she is doing...

I see aliens have landed in Bitchy and ca households - all great stuff!

Waves to Linzer Whoknows chitchat scatty droitwich Feetheart Toffee swan ellie Pa and everyone I've missed

A very bitty day ahead and very tempting to procrastinate in between school runs and appointments but it's Wednesday ... so I'm switching on the timer ....

Someone poke me with a big sharp stick please ...

OP posts:
sanguinechompa · 14/03/2012 08:29

No wonder your back hurts after that mega mega list yesterday Bitchy - glad to see you are taking it a bit easier today - and hope muscles recover soon!!

OP posts:
swanthingafteranother · 14/03/2012 09:42

SC I think I now would be be very wary of sending ds1 or the others on a ski-ing trip which involved long coach journeys, when you don't know who the driver is. Surely the key is that it is better to split them up into two minibuses on these trips where so many families are affected at once from the same school? I am paranoid about speed at the best of times, and the idea of putting all these precious cargoes in one basket Sad

Haven't read details, yet, sorry. Horrible day today dealing with various legistical problems due to mum's op/twins' birthday and Ds has decided to have a sore throat..no nurofen in house (Dh felt he could have got him to school if he had been able to dose him up) no coffee, and my
sore knee from fall on Friday is now getting steadily worse, so stiff I can hardly walk..nasty graze. Need gauze Hmm think plasters have made things worse.

Toffee hope your husband is on the mend, and survived yesterday. I feel knocked out today, and hope it is not too hectic at your end. Ditto Whoknows

Whoknows I really forgot about the laceup shoes Blush I only have one pair of shoes not caked in mud or orthopaedic style atm, and that was those (not very comfortable Hmm so they tend to stay mudfree)

Done
found out about short-term carers for mum.
talked to Dad.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 14/03/2012 10:15

this fell off my 'active' list, so had to find you all again.

Been maintaining rather than flying, but I am still here.

Hope everyone is well.

scattyspice · 14/03/2012 11:28

Hi all Smile
Welcome back Jax
Hope you can sort your Mum ot swan they are a worry these old folk.
nettle I ran a marathon once (in 1999). Its a long way!

Sad news about the crash.

Done:
swimming
Asda
Library

To do:
change beds
laundry
stuff for work
go to school to look at work
rainbows/cubs

Took DD to a roller disco party last night. It was great, some of these 7yos are brilliant at skating. DD quickly dispensed with the roller skates and just disco'd instead Grin.

sanguinechompa · 14/03/2012 11:37

Hello again Jax! Maintaining is GOOD so don't be too hard on yourself!

Oh dear Swan sorry that you are suffering (and your ds too). Hope your knee recovers soon and yr ds's sore throat doesn't develop in to anything worse. It's good that you have found your ma a carer for the short-term but all this must be v. stressful - try and take it steady - well as steady as poss in circs...

Couldn't agree more about ski trips and precious eggs in one basket. There seem to be far too many of these coach crashes involving dc Sad. There were two drivers and accident happened not long in to journey - bus modern and firm reputable apparently - so cause currently a complete mystery. Outcome catastrophic though Sad V. odd atmosphere at school today ....Sad
