We've recently moved to a new (rented) house and I'm constantly freeeeezing

Well, the thermostat says 15. The lounge is the coldest room in the house though!

Sidge · 08/02/2012 21:54

No idea, but our central thermostat downstairs is set to about 20 degrees. That's what I feel comfortable at in the lounge.

WundaWumman · 08/02/2012 21:55

We have central heating but I can't seem to get the main rooms downstairs warm in the evening. Temp is actually showing as about 17/18 degrees - is this actually cold or am I just feeling it more?

Our thermostat is at 25 but the room is definitely not that hot!

20 degrees anything less is too cold for me although dreading the heating bills that are coming soonSad

Denj33 · 08/02/2012 21:58

The temperature in my living room is COLD right now, forgot to put heating timer on when I left for work and now it is bitterly cold.

Sidge · 08/02/2012 22:05

Oh and the heating went off at 1930 but we've had a lovely crackling log fire since then, so I have no idea as to what the temperature is!

17/18 degrees isn't very cold, but I would find it too cool and prefer to be a few degrees warmer. Where is your thermostat? Ours is in the hallway which is quite cool, so the heating occasionally kicks in even when other rooms are warm.

gaelicsheep · 08/02/2012 22:05

Just creeping up to 18 with a storage heater and halogen heater on. I have my dressing gown over my clothes and my feet are cold.

NervousLaugh · 08/02/2012 22:06

24!! But we have an open fire and its the hottest room in the house. My kitchen (original stone, no radiator) is currently 15/16 and feels vvv cold. The childrens bedrooms are is usually 19/20, they are directly above the living room. Anything under 18 and the heating kicks in cos i'm a wuss!

ameliagrey · 08/02/2012 22:07

I don't know, the thermo in the hall is ste at 21, but the lounge also has a real fire which is on tonight so it feels very warm, with 2 rads on as well.

Petrean · 08/02/2012 22:07

It's about 24 because I've had the fire on.

emmaj1045 · 08/02/2012 22:18

It was 12 this afternoon and felt warm compared to the rest of the house! Is now 18 as the log burner is on. Upstairs and DCs room probably about 13 though.

WundaWumman · 08/02/2012 22:20

Hmmm, think i need to speak again to the landlord. We are not allowed to light the fire which I find ridiculous, but I guess he has no duty to keep me at my desired temp. Thanks all.

My thermostat is on at 18 at the moment (as had someone round to sit downstairs while DD was in bed, when I was picking DS up) and felt it should be a bit warmer than normal. Is normally about 16 degrees or so. Not sure how warm it is in here but am warm enough in my dressing gown and with a throw on :)

ameliagrey · 08/02/2012 22:43

I think the "legal temp" for work is around 19C but could be wrong. have you tried googling- there should be some figures for normal/acceptable room temps.

ameliagrey · 08/02/2012 22:47

This is from the BBc website

A thermostat set in the low teens may sound unconscionably frugal - especially when the range of numbers commonly goes from 10 to 30C.

Comfort cannot be defined absolutely, but the World Health Organization's standard for warmth says 18C (64F) is suitable for healthy people who are appropriately dressed. For those with respiratory problems or allergies, they recommend a minimum of 16C (60.8C); and for the sick, disabled, very old or very young, a minimum of 20C (68F).

OnlyANinja · 08/02/2012 22:53

Do you have a thermometer? Preferably a digital one?

OnlyANinja · 08/02/2012 22:53

There's no official legal minimum temperature for a workplace but this Gov Health&Safety website suggests that a workplace shouldn't be below 16C.

thenightsky · 08/02/2012 22:55

Currently it's like a sauna due to wood burning stove going like the clappers.

WundaWumman · 08/02/2012 23:01

Yes, I have digital thermometer we had for DD2. Most evenings its 17 but can get up as far as 19 if were really lucky! But I'm wasting loads of energy (and £ss) trying to get it even that warm :(

ameliagrey · 09/02/2012 08:17

It's likey that the rads just need bleeding or balancing. Our house is often cold when the rads are only half warm and we have to get air out of the system. are your rads hot to the touch?

thederkinsdame · 09/02/2012 09:25

Why did your LL say you can't use the fire? He has a legal duty to maintain appliances so if it's a gas fire it needs a current cert. and should be serviced every year. If open fire can you ask him to get the chimney swept?

lynniep · 09/02/2012 09:32

thermostat is set to 20. I feel the cold and this is too cold for me on an evening, so I put a big old dressing gown on. DS2 is happy to run around in a nappy at 20 degrees.

mamakemp · 09/02/2012 09:41

In the evenings it's 21.5, but we watch the tv under the duvet! The background heat, is set at 15, which is a bit cold because I work from home. I also have a duvet ready to put on at the computer!

DharmaCeutical · 09/02/2012 09:46

my thermostat also lies.

my husband doesn't believe in thermometers (i know...)

I have NO idea what the temp is in here.
