Good morning everyone. Any minute now, I will actually be on my own in the house for the first time in several months, as both DC are at school and DH is at a meeting (he works at home) . I am actually looking forward to being able to whizz round the house doing my 'home blessing' without tripping over people.
Buckminster - I'm sure coming down to a grubby sink reminded you of why you need to start the day with a shiny sink. It's horrible, isn't it? But we all have evenings when we just can't do it.
MummyNic - welcome! So glad you could join us from your other thread. There's an explanation about baking powder/soda/bicarbonate of soda here. By the way, I could never get up and dressed before my DC when they were young either (now they are 6 and 12 it's easy). I used to get them up, dressed and breakfasted, then let them watch telly whilst I dressed. It was the only way and even then I usually had a lot of interruptions. Very sorry to hear about your dog, by the way
.
Chestnutx3 - you would think Flylady would know about large American houses, wouldn't you? I still think 10 minutes per chore is ambitious, even in my small, terraced English house. Flylady would remind you that you are only meant to do a very quick 'once over' down the middle of the floor when hoovering or mopping.
Angelswings - it's lovely that your house is looking so good thanks to the Flylady tips
Linzer - I agree with you on the 10-minute thingy. And, by the way, my DH often buys meat that's near its sell-by date too. I keep reminding him to get it from the back of the shelf where the date is longest, but he still doesn't always remember. It really throws my menu planning.
Jetstar - don't be daunted. Just choose one room and do a quick five-minute tidy up. Imagine you are bringing a guest in and only have five minutes to sort the room out. What would you tackle in those five minutes? If the room is really cluttered, I would grab a box and throw as much as possible into the box. Get as much as you can off the floor and off the surfaces. Straighten throws or bedspreads. Even if it's not clean, at least it'll look tidier.
Bitchy - how are those teeth today? I agree with you about the key babysteps, by the way. I always ignore the others.
Scatty - sorry your DS is ill. I hope you manage to have a nice day together. Congratulations on managing the one-hour home blessing. So it can be done!
Thefoxsbrush - that is certainly a very well-deserved cuppa. I haven't even started my morning routine yet
.
FleeBee - oh, lack of sleep thanks to DC is awful. You should lower your Flying expectations today or you'll suffer for it. Just get through the day. To clarify hotspots and room rescues: hotspots are those places in your house that attract piles of clutter - the top of the piano, the top of the kitchen table, the kitchen corner. Putting out your hotspot means setting your timer for just two minutes and working non-stop in those two minutes to tidy up. Don't obsess and be a perfectionist - just work at getting it looking tidy. Do it every day and the hotspot will never get out of control.
A room rescue means spending five minutes sorting out one room to make it look presentable. I explained it to Jetstar above. Again, don't obsess. Just do what you can in five minutes, then stop.
OK, I must make the most of my quiet house (DH has now gone out and is probably thinking I'll spend the next couple of hours on MN (as if!), so I must prove him wrong).
