When are Christmas decorations coming down

When is everyone taking down their Christmas decorations?

I am currently fighting the urge to do it RIGHT NOW. But there are people on here that say that is not right. Grin

EdithWeston · 28/12/2011 12:22

There are 12 Days of Christmas.

So unless you have to take them down (eg to ensure a birthday is a truly separate occasion), then anything before 6 January is short-changing the festival.

Sparklingbrook · 28/12/2011 12:29

But it feels like the festival started around mid-October. Sad

Mrsrobertduvall · 28/12/2011 12:31

I would like to take them down today, but dd would cry.
They will be down Jan 1st.

liveinazoo · 28/12/2011 12:34

i do it 1st jan as we have a birthday in the house on the 5th.thats my excuse and im sticking to it

Katisha · 28/12/2011 12:37

Every year I voice the opinion that if people didn't put them up so early they could enjoy the actual 12 days of Christmas and take them down 5th/6th Jan.

But now it seems that people get decorations up on 1st Dec so no wonder they are sick of them.

gregssausageroll · 28/12/2011 12:47

Mine are down. Trying to get DS back to normal. Plus we're back to work, out and away for a few days so they are down as of an hour ago. Place looks naked!

DashingThroughTheRedheadSnow · 28/12/2011 13:15

Do you mean deliberately or through DS (age 2) pulling tree over? Seriously, as soon as possible. I used to go through to 6 Jan, but just can't face it this year.

wheredidiputit · 28/12/2011 13:18

Next weekend. So DH can put them back in the loft before he goes back to work.

mammanetta · 28/12/2011 13:29

Usually wait until Epiphany (6th Jan) as that's traditional in rest of Europe...tend to out them up on 7th December as that's DH birthday and we sort of make it extra special by dressing the tree etc then...that's our little family's tradition :-)

housemum · 28/12/2011 13:35

6th December for the tree, but DD3's birthday is 3rd Jan so will have the rest of the decorations & cards down by then so we can put up birthday banners and her cards.

mistressploppy · 28/12/2011 13:42

I'm leaving the tree and some lights up but the rest has come down this morning as all the rellies have finally left and it's a bit of a relief to regain a bit of normality!

I did feel a bit humbuggy while doing it though

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 28/12/2011 13:50

we'll do it in the next few days. The children are back at school on the 4th and it is just wrong to go back to school with Christmas decorations still up. I see no point in keeping them up because Christmas has happened. The 12 days of Christmas is not something that holds meaning any more (in our family at least). We really enjoy the excitement and run-up to Christmas but now, it's time to get back to normal.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 28/12/2011 13:57

Around the 5th of 6th as usual I guess. However, I'm not enjoying it all much this year (mind you tummy bug isn't helping!). I usually love Christmas tree lights, but even those aren't even raising a smile. I'm going to get a couple of strings of the old fashioned lights for next year - the LED's just aren't the same.

amerryscot · 28/12/2011 13:58

Twelfth Night.

DogQuestions · 28/12/2011 13:58

6th of January obviously. Do the rest of you wrong people not have terrible problems with the goblins cracking the plates/souring the milk etc?

Ours went up on Christmas Eve and will come down on Saturday/Sunday, depending on when we have the time. I love my tree but I like it to just be up for a week or so. I hate Christmas spreading over weeks, it seems less special if its all up too long.

cece · 28/12/2011 14:03

I am thinking I might do a few today. The tree will be last. I usually do it before New Year but this year we are away so it might have to be done when we get back on the 2nd.

mammanetta · 28/12/2011 14:04

In germany where DH from, the tree always goes up Christmas Eve...he tried to convince me this was a good idea this year, but I wasn't convinced.
Agree that putting up tree on Dec 1st (or some people we know do first advent, which was November 29th!!) is a bit much...but only Christmas Eve seems like you get liess mileage out of your tree Xmas Smile
Does anyone else find Christmas Eve more magical than Christmas day itself though? Lots of drinking of port and eating of mince pies...to keep us going while we wrap presentscarol singing at local church, everything still and silent outside (sort of)...maybe tree up Xmas Eve would be great after all :)

mammanetta · 28/12/2011 14:05

TurkeyCurry agree that feels less specially if it drags on for weeks...bit like the curry in your username then :)

Bicnod · 28/12/2011 14:08

1st Jan here - only went up on sat before Christmas but moving house soon so need to start getting house sorted out

Piffpaffpoff · 28/12/2011 14:09

I've taken everything but the tree down today and the tree will be coming down on New Years Day.

Teaandcakeplease · 28/12/2011 14:27

I like to leave a gap before my son's birthday on 5th, so I took them down today. Plus I'm fed up of constantly monitoring him whilst he fights the urge to fiddle with the baubles Smile

QuinionsRainbow · 28/12/2011 14:50

Our bin-men are collecting "real" christmas trees for recycling/composting on Jan 2nd, so I expect we will have all of our Christmas stuff down by then.
