Run up to Christmas...

CaptainMartinCrieff · 18/12/2011 09:03

No one has to join me, but I need to motivate myself to have everything clean and tidy before my Christmas guests arrive. So...

Sunday: laundry and ironing, clean kitchen cupboards and ready for Christmas goodies, clean cooker (eurgh)
Monday: prepare guest bedroom, sort through DS's toys in preparation for new ones
Tuesday: clean our bedroom and DS's bedroom, dining room and hallways
Wednesday: laundry and ironing, last minute shopping
Thursday: bake, bake, bake followed by clean kitchen
Friday: clean bathroom and living room
Saturday morning: whizz around with Hoover and polish and ready for guests!

Phew actually not that bad written down (I'm quite clean and tidy for the most part so shouldn't take too much time)... Except the dreaded cooker!

i'm in! i always find the run up to christmas such a stress! If i plan things out i should, should be ok...I've still got to finish my xmas shopping for DH. We also have the in-laws around for dinner thursday evening and then on xmas morning some friends of our always pop in to ours for drinks and nibbles before we go down the pub xmas drinks. Thankfully we are at my sisters forxmas dinner. Plus also got to do big food shop at some point. I reckon my list will look something like this:

Sunday - i'm going to do lots of washing today, strips the beds. May also clean the bathroom. Do ironing in the evening.
Monday - drop kids off at mums for the day. go into town and get final presents for DH. Do ironing in evening.
Tuesday - start the big clean. Do the little things that don't get done often. such as dusting and cleaning skirting boards. Go tesco and do big food shop.
Wednesday - clean bathroom top to bottom. Clean downstairs loo top to bottom. Clean kitchen top to bottom. Hoover all rooms.
Thursday - cook dinner for family visit. General tidy up and bleach down loos, etc.
Friday - am going to do some cooking to last over xmas and put in fridge and freezer. Do some more washing probably.
Saturday - hoover, clean bathrooms, kitchen. Put kids to bed and finish wrapping presents with DH and cuddle up for early night afters ;-)
Sunday - I imagine i will just make sure house is generally tidy for guests and squirt some bleach down the loos.

Well I've done a bit of today's...
Kitchen cupboards and fridge wiped down, out of date stuff binned (including a jar of ground cumin that embarrassingly expired in 12/09! Blush) ready to be filled for Christmas.
Laundry is all done (except bedding which I will tackle during the week) ironing can wait for tonight once DS is in bed.

I forgot to put present wrapping on my list... I'll have to squeeze that in (probably Thursday).

Today: Stared at shit-tip of house in horror. Opened bottle of Christmas Cava. Started laundry.

CaptainMartinCrieff · 18/12/2011 20:44

Like your style Grin

Argh! Getting guests I wasn't expecting on thurs morn & having party thurs night here. Was gonna clean hse & prepare on thurs but will hav to be ready wednesday evening now! There's a lot to do...

RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 20/12/2011 15:59

I'm in, too. I need lists to get anything done, and although I think I'm ready for Christmas, I know I'll be fannying around on Christmas Eve trying to clean the oven instead of eating mince pies in front of the carols. No overnight guests, but ILs and my family here for the big day.

Priorities:
Clean bastard oven.
Wipe fridge shelves.
Final shop for fresh stuff.
Wrap final presents.
Stick cards up.
Clothes ready.
Clean bathroom.
Clean kitchen.
Wipe surfaces and hoover.
Try not to drink the christmas booze and faff on mumsnet instead.

CharliesMummyMeg · 20/12/2011 18:08

Ohh i'm so not on track.
DS is asleep in arms at the moment, mumsnet on the laptop, tv on - housework?? errrggghh.....

MarriedToTheGrinch · 20/12/2011 18:30

just marking my place nicking all your lists although all presents wrapped just a couple more to get. Laundry up to date. Bathroom - argggghhhhh

CaptainMartinCrieff · 20/12/2011 20:51

How is it possible... I did virtually all my ironing on Sunday and today the ironing basket is full! How is that possible? Angry
And I've still not done the arseing cooker!

Am joining in! Must clean cooked and fridge. Shop for food, wrap presents, clean house, chuck broken toys, stick up cards, iron, chill wine, make ice cubes!

pinkyp · 20/12/2011 21:23

I'm in! I'm working all week but have done most of the cleaning it's just last bits now.

Weds: wash curtains and cushion covers and ds1's bedding.

Thurs - wash last bits of clothes, get last if shopping

Fri- working til 7 so not doing anything Grin

Sat - quick wipe round bathroom (cleaned and bleached it sun), Hoover up and down, mop floors, clean sofa's, dusting.

Excited!!!

CaptainMartinCrieff · 20/12/2011 22:06

Make ice cubes! Thanks for reminding me.

I've had a very productive evening... But still haven't touched the cooker. Cleaning everything else is on schedule though.
I know it'll look like a bomb has exploded after the present unwrapping session on Xmas morning, but I'll feel happier going to bed Xmas eve to a clean and tidy house.
I'm most looking forward to my baking session on Thursday... Sticky gingerbread, mince pies and sausage rolls!

Oh and Nigella's Xmas morning muffins. Yum!

OP posts:
WentworthMillerMad · 21/12/2011 13:18

Wash cushions - good call!
Captain your baking sounds amazing. Imagine the smell, listening to Christmas tunes and wrapping! Excied!

CaptainMartinCrieff · 21/12/2011 19:03

Wash cushions!!! I so cannot be bothered with that! It is another night of ironing though. Is there anything good on telly to entertain me during this god awful task?

OP posts:
RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 21/12/2011 20:06

The cushions are staying grubby. I am, however, adding Christmas morning muffins to my list!

pinkyp · 21/12/2011 21:49

All tasks done! Yessssss Grin roll on tomorrow, clothes mountain to put away Sad

champagnesupernova · 21/12/2011 22:09

CaptainMartinCrieff,
Seriously will anyone know/notice/care about the cooker apart from you?
I am stressed about it just reading your posts.
I need to wrap and tidy everything
I need to find a few presents too
Yet here it is 10 past 10 and have barely done anything tonight.
not even made a list....

champagnesupernova · 21/12/2011 22:10

nB I forgot my smileys CaptainCrieff - Xmas Grin
Don't stress yerself.
Tis one day!

CaptainMartinCrieff · 22/12/2011 06:17

You see the cooker is the one thing I think people will notice by the thick smoke and smell of burning when I attempt to cook the turkey. Sad
I really must do it tonight.
Please though, I don't want you to stress about my cooker Wink.... It will get done... Hopefully.
Everything else is going well on a plus note!

OP posts:
RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 22/12/2011 11:32

DH has volunteered to do the cooker. Whoop. I'm making the muffins now - can I freeze them, captain?

CaptainMartinCrieff · 22/12/2011 18:25

You can freeze them yes, they won't taste quite as good as they do fresh but these things never do... They will still be delicious.
