Have wanted a kitchenaid for years but they come in at around £400 so a proper considered purchase and I have just waited. The kmix is £209 today which is practically half the price. Dh has said he will buy me the kmix now.....if I would like as my Christmas present but his budget understandably can't stretch to the kitchenaid. So do I go for it or wait for the one I really want. But it is double the price almost. I don't know....help!!!! Please!

Never heard of kmix

shopalot · 10/12/2011 20:08

It is made by kenwood.

Kenwood are absolutely cracking. I don't think there's much between kenwood and KA, performance-wise, at all, so you are paying A Lot for the pretty. I have the normal Kenwood Chef, which I adore, but the Kmix hand mixer, and I am really impressed with it. Yes, it's pretty, but it's sturdy, robust, powerful and does aa great job. I think that Edd Kimber (winner of first Great British Bake Off) had one to review recently, and was very impressed. KA are fine, but just not worth the extra money.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/12/2011 20:21

I wouldnt have a Kmix, I have a chef and I love it, its real work horse.

I always think Kmixes as being a bit low on power.

This ones white bit cheaper, the coloured ones are more money.

smartyparts · 10/12/2011 20:22

Totally biased here, but..

KitchenAids look so gorgeous and the Kenwood is v un attractive.

My KitchenAid lives on worktop, Kenwood would have to go in a cupboard.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 10/12/2011 20:25

Agree with Kenwood Chef. They're fantastic and last forever

shopalot · 10/12/2011 20:28

It would definitely stand on my work top next to my magimix. The kmix doesn't offend me to look at but I do prefer the kitchenaid. it is definitely between the kmix or kitchenaid. My mum has the chef so I know they are great but I want pretty too!!

Fluffy loud. I have seen that one but it doesn't include the splash guard so it works out a bit more so may as well get coloured one. Thanks though.

The Kenwood isn't unattractive! It's quite industrial, I guess, but just looks like it means business. Mine looks great next to my Magimix, as they're similar "professional" looking machines. I do have the shiny metal magimix, though. I like kitchen stuff to look like it's there to do a job.

Don't know about the kmix power thing - as I said, the handmixer is a total workhorse, but I guess the kmix isn't meant to be in direct competition with the Chef?

tiredmummyof4 · 10/12/2011 20:44

Don't know about the kitchenaid but I have a ken wood chef that I've used and used and used for 12 years and it's still going strong

shopalot · 10/12/2011 20:45

here is the kmix

habbibu · 10/12/2011 20:52

Ooh - you get a lot less for your money than you do with the Chef, don't you? I couldn't do that. I'd get a chef and a piece of artwork, tbh.

habbibu · 10/12/2011 20:54

But bloody hell - £400 for a 300 W motor?. That's crazy. It really is style over substance.

uggmum · 10/12/2011 20:54

I have a kitchen aid and I love it. I use it all the time. It lives on the Worktop and looks lovely.

If you buy one at the moment you get a glass bowl free. It would cost you £62 to buy it normally.

I have had cheaper mixers but I have found the kitchen aid to be better.

habbibu · 10/12/2011 20:57

For comparison, this is what you get for the same money. I'd just get a cover if you couldn't stand the sight of it - the pretty is too much of a con.

Completely agree with "Ooh - you get a lot less for your money than you do with the Chef, don't you? I couldn't do that. I'd get a chef and a piece of artwork, tbh." I've had a Chef for years, they're indestructible. But I really resent feeling mugged due to things being fashionable.

jasper · 10/12/2011 21:01

Hold out for the kitchenaid.
There is no comparison

habbibu · 10/12/2011 21:03

Why, jasper - have you had a chef? I can't get over the difference in power per pound, and kenwoods are v reliable.

daveywarbeck · 10/12/2011 21:04

I have a fantastic food processor which is over ten years old, a kenwood of some kind but not a chef. It was a wedding present. I use it nearly every day and it is brilliant.

BUT

I long for a kitchenaid. I am prepared to pay more for pretty. A thing of beauty is a joy forever and all that.

daveywarbeck · 10/12/2011 21:05

My brilliant food processor lives in a cupboard btw. The hypothetical kitchenaid would live on the counter next to my pretty scales and cake stand.

shallow? Yup.

BelleEnd · 10/12/2011 21:06

£62 for a KA glass bowl?????

That tells you all you need to know. They are fleecing you, just for the name. For £400, I'd expect it to have a hot dinner ready and waiting for me every night, the kitchen table laid and Barry White on CD.

said · 10/12/2011 21:06

Actually , I'm not sure mine's a Chef either but, anyway... The Kitchenaid gets a lot of crap reviews on Amazon

habbibu · 10/12/2011 21:09

Buy art. Seriously. Then you have pretty and good.

daveywarbeck · 10/12/2011 21:10

I have art. I want a kitchenaid.

Eglu · 10/12/2011 21:13

The kmix is still quite pretty I think.
