Have wanted a kitchenaid for years but they come in at around £400 so a proper considered purchase and I have just waited. The kmix is £209 today which is practically half the price. Dh has said he will buy me the kmix now.....if I would like as my Christmas present but his budget understandably can't stretch to the kitchenaid. So do I go for it or wait for the one I really want. But it is double the price almost. I don't know....help!!!! Please!

Just popping on to say I read the title as kitchenmaid. I wouldn't say no to one of those either, but I'd go for a Kenwood Chef if I had the choice.

i have kitchenaid -'tis goooooood...NOt sure tis 400 squid good

shopalot · 10/12/2011 21:16

According to the kenwood rep the motor is a different time. Kenwood chef is built driven and needs the high wattage of power however the kmix and kitchenaid are direct motors so as powerful but less wattage.

Different type- oops

I just did this exact comparison, and now have a beautiful boysenberry kitchenaid sitting on my bench. My research led me to conclude that the kmix has less power, is noisier and the whisk doesn't get close enough to the edge of the bowl. I googled kenwood vs kitchenaid

AllThreeWays · 10/12/2011 21:23

Oh and I belive the chef is great, but the kmix is a very different being .

shopalot · 10/12/2011 21:24

So jealous........ May have to wait but I feel a bit like I will never have a damn mixer if I don't get kmix. But I would never stroke a kmix lovingly!!!!

shopalot · 10/12/2011 21:42

Hi habibu , I don't have a chef but my mil has one and I think it's pretty cool actually. Bug the kitchenaid is REALLY cool Grin
I went through exactly this internal debate before getting a kitchenaid many years ago.
O do think
They are ridiculously expensive . One of the very few items I own
That I was prepared to pay a shedload for

madwomanintheattic · 11/12/2011 06:22

kitchenaids were on special in our local hardware store last week. and i bought one for $199. and because i got some other stuff too, they gave me $32 worth of vouchers back. Grin

Blush

dd1 is 11, and has spent the entire week in the kitchen, without whining at me to cream butter or anything. if i had known that all i needed to do to get dd1 to go solo in the kitchen was buy a pretty mixer, i'd have done it yonks ago.

(tis black to match the granite and appliances Grin)
(dh wouldn't let me have a red one as it would clash with the walls)

shopalot · 11/12/2011 08:43

Madwoman....they are so much more expensive in the uk because we have different voltage. Tone honest most things are more expensive in the uk IME

shopalot · 11/12/2011 08:44

I love my Kenwood Chef. My mum's KC is still going strong after 30 years Shock.

shopalot · 11/12/2011 09:00

Thanks Peggy. I don't think the new ones are made as well as they used to be. The kmix and kitchenaid just seem more robust and heavy whereas the new chefs look a bit plasticy in my opinion.

NotnOtter · 11/12/2011 22:55

we considered a kenwood but the build quality not a patch on thhe old ones

wannaBe · 11/12/2011 23:06

kitchenaid is grossly overpriced.

habbibu · 11/12/2011 23:44

Plasticy? Mine is made almost entirely of metal. And tough as old boots - feels as robust as my mum's 40 yo one.

HappyAsEyeAm · 12/12/2011 11:49

I have a Kenwood Chef and I think it is absolutely amazing. Its a matt silver, and it has a 1100W motor, which is more than enough. I have a cover for it though, as it lives on the worksurface, and it would gather dust otherwise.

I have never had a kitchenaid, so can't compare it. All I can say is that I was and am delighted with my Chef. IOts 4 years old now, and I have never had cause to complain about it. I am actually getting teary at how much I treasure it ...

Thankgodforcaffeine · 12/12/2011 21:10

In my experience, Kitchenaid is expensive but worth every penny. Previous posts about wattage are spot on, 300-odd watt is enough when it is a direct transmission. I use mine every day almost, and bake bread twice a week so it handles a lot of tough work without any problem.

The accessories are a bit expensive though. This being said, they wouldn't be that useful to me anyway so it doesn't bother me.
