Our Bosch has died after only 5 years. We are not impressed. We need to replace it and are sort of feeling that buying the cheapes eg Indesit might be worth it as the most expensive didnt last so surely worth paying less if have to replace anyway? Which have you bought recently and which brands would you recommend as great value for money?

we had a Beko that lasted about 10 years - it wasnt on its last legs but had started being a bit temperamental. We have recently got a new bigger Beko with a water dispenser so we'll see how long it lasts for.

what's your budget & how much space have you got?

I've got an LG side-by-side & it's wonderful but

a) is quite wide
b) is also quite deep & usually needs the doors removing to get it in
c) is at least £500

LG are quite reliable for fridge-freezers though (I'll have a look at Which for you Smile)

Ponders · 22/09/2011 19:19

their 2 top best buys atm are Hotpoint Shock I had a Hotpoint fridge years ago & it was not impressive, but maybe they've improved

Bosch is usually a reasonably reliable make - before the LG I had separate under-counter Bosch fridge & freezer, which both worked ok, but the plastic drawers were very flimsy & cracked/broke a lot

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/09/2011 19:22

I go down on my knees and beg you NOT to get an American side by side ff. Mine is without doubt the worst £700 I ever spent and I can't wait to get rid.

Ponders · 22/09/2011 19:23

what make is yours, bibbity?

Ponders · 22/09/2011 19:27

(please don't say LG Grin)

BitFuzzled · 22/09/2011 19:35

Why please, bibbity? Blush

now we are four, our Bosch died after 4 years - complete rubbish compared to the w/m and drier.

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/09/2011 19:37

The make is irrelevant. I just don't get on with the style and layout of the fricking thing and the amount of room it takes up in the kitchen.

Ponders · 22/09/2011 19:46

I paid at least £500 for my 2 under-counter Bosches, they were never nearly big enough, esp for things like bottles

My LG was a similar price & it's fabulous. I can always fit everything in easily

We have a cavernous Liebherr which has lasted 10 years or so so far.

Of course, this will now be the kiss of death for it.

bruffin · 22/09/2011 19:51

I was looking on which today for a friend and the velo ones were all best buys

Ponders · 22/09/2011 19:52

velo????

who that?

bruffin · 22/09/2011 19:54

Sorry blame my phone
That should have been beko

Ponders · 22/09/2011 19:55
Grin

I thought it must be but I don't know how phone logic works!

bruffin · 22/09/2011 19:57

I have chubby fingers

Ponders · 22/09/2011 20:03

oh - have you got a blackberry or something with a qwerty keyboard?

bruffin · 23/09/2011 07:31

I have a HTC wildfire, but it is set to a querty keyboard

nowwearefour · 25/09/2011 19:19

budget is less than £500 and have enough space for a tall one, but not a wide american one, just a regular one. i was tempted by a hotpoint which best buy but it is to be housed in an unheated room and that point was a big no no! i am not sure whether to just spend £200ish as they all seem to die anyway or whether to spend a bit more. i am nervous of velo (i mean beko Wink) coz of fire risk thingie but is that silly?

Ours is a Zanussi and it's hopeless - constantly freezing up things in the fridge, big blocks of ice form at the bottom of the fridge, leaky at the bottom. It does have an impressive variety of peculiar noises, but I'd rather do without them and have a fridge that bloody works properly.

nowwearefour · 25/09/2011 19:27

thanks- you arent the first to say zanussi not the greatest. to be fair our bosch made similarly awful noises and we had some leaking issues.
anyone had any bad beko experiences?

A new Beko should be fine according to Which:

"Which Beko fridge freezer models are affected?
The safety alert specifically concerns certain five to 11-year-old Beko fridge freezers, produced between January 2000 and October 2006. LFB is urging all Beko fridge freezer owners to see if their appliance is affected - the individual model numbers are listed below.
Standalone Beko fridges or freezers are not affected, and neither are newer fridge freezer models produced after 2006."

There are 3 best buy Bekos, between £290 & £322 - sounds ideal for you! Smile

nowwearefour · 26/09/2011 17:07

oh cool- thanks Ponders!

I've got this one. Had it a year and so far it's great. I can fit loads in it, there's extra storage as the door is curved giving bigger door shelving, Frost free. Drawers are well made and look like they will last, glass shelves. Google it as price can vary a bit, think I paid £450

nowwearefour · 28/09/2011 21:06

ooooh hophop i am interested in that one....

Has anybody bought AEG side by side fridge freezer ? I am considering models s54000kmwo and A72710gnwo or failing that 2 fridge freezers from Liebherr. They only have 60/40 split possibly not enough freezer space . Suggestions please and how reliable is AEG?
