Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Baby-step number 14 for Wednesday 14 September is here. Can be ignored ? it?s one encouraging you to read an essay about using a calendar Hmm

All this week we are in Zone 3 (the kitchen and one other room) here

Tomorrow?s mission will appear here once the Flylady website updates itself.

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day in Fat Fairy land. Have a good one.

brokenwingedflier · 13/09/2011 21:18

I have not shined my sink but I will before I go to sleep. I wanted to post my list for tomorrow.

wipe kitchen cupboards: yes, but they were filthy so still not clean
kitchen bin: resounding yes
load of washing: no
15 minutes decluttering the black hole that is the spare room: more than
Take vitamins and drink water: no, but still time

As much of weekly blessing as I can: which would take me more than an HOUR! More like a month. I am not sure I even know what 'dusting' is.

15 minutes in front garden: yes, was longing for timer to go off
Sweep bus shelter: no
Make juice (AND WASH JUICER): no
Make mushroom soup before the mushrooms go mouldy: yes

Library
Take box to charity shop (hurrah! today's achievement): yes
Send letter to GP: yes
Food shop: yes

The bus shelter has been home to a family of swifts who have made a great mess of it so no one can sit down. I realised that as, the only user under 70, I should be the one that clears it up. The swifts are still there and I am not going to clean up their droppings until they have gone and the droppings have gone solid, so that one can wait. When do swifts go? I thought (from R4) that they should have gone by now.

Tomorrow

Daily mission
As much as I can manage of weekly blessing
15 minutes spare room declutter
Make juice and clean juicer
Mow our (tiny) if it is dry
15 minutes in front garden
Ring house insurance

(off to shine sink)

substantiallycompromised · 13/09/2011 21:20

Oh lord. Sorry. I'll press 'preview message' one of these days.

CORRECTION: the zone is the bathroom (NOT the kitchen as previously stated twice) + one other room.

And here's a sneak peak ahead at the week's missions here

OP posts:
brokenwingedflier · 13/09/2011 21:26

Thanks sc. I was confused about that.

brokenwingedflier · 13/09/2011 21:28

But then where did I get the idea to wipe down my kitchen cupboards. Is the zone not the same as Kelly's missions? It doesn't matter. I will keep going with my weekly blessing for many weeks. I am, like the swifts in the bus shelter, not yet flying. And I am roughly as messy.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/09/2011 21:40

Wipe down kitchen cupboards was one of last weeks missions.

Well, apart from decluttering the wrong zone today not much Flying. No need to put laundry away as it is still wet on the line and CBA to move it to drier.

DD still vomiting roughly once an hour, going to bed soon in anticipation of a broken night.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/09/2011 21:51

Ouch there's an unanswered message in Extra Curricular Activities about children's ice skates, maybe you could help with that?

swanriver · 13/09/2011 21:54

oh dear Nettie Sad that's why I warned you, because I had that, it's called a dry socket. I had it after first extraction because I rushed around, and not with second two because I was a lazy cow.
But it will pass, with antibiotics, don't worry. Any way with ds first days at school, I can see it was difficult to take it easy.

Broken that's very civic of you, nice to feel a bus stop iis an extension of one'shouse. Know nothing about birds unfortunately except from Oscar Wilde and Dr Dolittle Blush

nice evening, sort of feel I'm getting hang of this new school lark. Still can't seem to rustle up a family meal though, must try harder. We all sat down to a rather jolly picnic style meal with pasta, potatoes and soup, everyone seemed to be eating some different leftover Blush
Ds is getting the hang of drawing posters and frontispieces Grin.
I had a lovely read with ds2, his bedroom [boxroom] is so restful in "sky" blue, quite happily would have fallen asleep there.

Tomorrow I have to go to Asperger's Parenting Workshop first thing, not really in the mood, bt I suppose I must.

Very very tired now, at least bedrooms clean and tidy.

swanriver · 13/09/2011 21:57

WhoKnows, poor little dd, sounds a horrible bug.

coostoonettle · 13/09/2011 21:59

I know swan thanks you for the concern. Taking it easy it just not feasible at mo! Work is manic and home is too! Nobody ever seems to allow mums to get off the roundabout when they need too.

My dc love a mix up supper we call it. Good luck tomorrow hope it's helpful!

I am going to bed honest. Night night

substantiallycompromised · 13/09/2011 22:02

Many apologies if any newcomers have been cleaning the kitchen instead of the bathroom. My fault entirely. I'm a twonk Blush And apologies again for doing last night's round-up this morning.

I'lll get it right one of these days ...

No, hang on, actually it was all a big test to see if you have been keeping up properly ... Grin Wink

Anyway, what have you all been up to? Quite a few early nights following lots of delicious autumnal cooking sessions. (I can smell it all from here - heavenly!)

Brokenwingedflier has been making mushroom soup, Flying high (well done!) and contemplating the migration habits of swifts
Cnettle has accomplished a full list despite having an infection in her jaw bone. Ouch! That sounds horrid. Hope you recover soon and [stern looks] please try and take it steady.
Fuzzled also completed her list and enjoyed watching her ds and friends crawl over one another (aw)
Ouch has done lots of Flying and a stupendous amount of "windfall" cooking - which all sounds utterly delicious - and is now enjoying a bit of well-deserved shut-eye. (What is risto btw? Risotto?)
Swan has also done loads of Flying, and has been football chauffering and homework refereeing. Well done re: master bedroom!!!!!
Feetheart has been stewing peaches and making yummy fish pie (one of my favourites)
MC has been continuing her job search. Keep going, proffers Wine!! You'll get there...!
Oops has flown steadily and had a lovely brunch catching up with friends
Whoknows has been looking after her poorly dd, coping brilliantly with a challenging school run and clearing her hearth of toy boxes. ( Hope your dd feels better soon and you don't have too disturbed a night.)
Whoknows/Oops/Swan I am all for secretly stashing carrots, courgettes and beetroots in to cake. As you say, the trick is never to tell until it's been eaten and enjoyed.

Feetheart has been running out of time and focusing on three important things (hear hear to it all being so much easier in the holidays - one forgets!)
Messy had a well deserved rest while her family slept (sounds as if you have your house well under control - top marks)
Linzer has been meeting herself coming back and forth from kindergarten (hope your dd2 made it home safely!)
CheerfulYank has started tackling her mammoth black list

Huge waves to everyone else!

SC I'm always in the wrong zone.

OuchPassVodka · 13/09/2011 22:15

whoknows I had a look for it in the unanswered section but couldn't find it. perhaps it has been answered? linky?

substantiallycompromised · 13/09/2011 22:15

x posts

BrokenwingedF you've passed with top marks by noticing my deliberate mistake!!!! Grin Am loving the swift analogy! Yes - missions do match up with zones!! Apologies again.

Apologies to you too Whoknows Sorry you did the wrong zone because of my numb-headedness - that's all you need today on top of a vomiting child. Was hoping it would have subsided by now - she must feel rotten poor thing - hope it doesn't go beyond 24 hrs. Do you have any pkts of rehydration powders? Good luck tonight.

Swan gosh you cook loads and loads of delicious family meals!! Everyone eats leftovers once a week or so - v. good too. Well done re bedrooms and good luck at workshop tomorrow.

Sleep well CNettle hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

Think I had better go and lay out clothes for tomorrow and hit the sack too. Can hear dh stirring (unlike me he's v. disciplined and goes to bed at 11.30pm on the dot EVERY night without fail).

G'night all.

SC Blush whoops yep it is. spelling/brain fail.

LinzerTorte · 13/09/2011 22:17

I have failed on the early night babystep. It's all DH's fault for being away - I just cannot get myself to go to bed when he's not here.

Very hot and sunny here today, so we spent the afternoon with a friend who has a house next to a nearby lake. The DC had a great time splashing around in the water, but it was far too cold for me so I lay on a sun lounger and pretended I was on holiday. Grin

On the plus side, I haven't actually wasted the entire evening on MN - I've shredded (of the exercise variety - did some of the paper variety earlier), partly updated my new Organised Mum calendar (I've had to leave some for DD2 to help me with tomorrow) and sorted through a big bag of clothes that a friend had passed on to me for DS. Have also consumed rather too much Cote d'Or chocolate from DH's last trip to Brussels and now feel slightly sick. Unfortunately he hasn't gone anywhere renowned for its chocolate this time (wonder if they have Turkish Delight in Turkey? I'm sure he's brought me some back before... or am I imagining it?).

swan I couldn't even manage to rustle up beans on toast this evening as I discovered we were out of beans. We weren't back home until 7 pm and the DC hadn't eaten, so I needed something quick as I tend to get nervous if they're not ready for bed by 7 pm...

WhoKnows Hope your night isn't too disturbed and that your DD is feeling better tomorrow; stomach bugs are nasty things (speaking from recent first- and second-hand experience) so I hope it doesn't do the rounds.

SC Must admit I hadn't noticed the wrong zone . Very impressed at you doing grey and dark blue washes; I usually just bung everything in the machine and then wonder why the whites always end up grey. It's only thanks to MN that I've learned to separate white and dark washes. Blush (That's what comes of growing up without a WM and having no common sense. My mum bought her first a few years ago and has also complained about it turning white things grey!)

Off to bed now before a late night becomes ridiculously late; with DH away, I can't afford not to hear my alarm clock tomorrow morning.

OuchPassVodka · 13/09/2011 22:23

Found it Whoknows. left some advice but i fear i might have confused rather then helped at this point.

messymammy · 13/09/2011 22:30

Ha Ha Ha SC that made me laugh :o "under control" indeed :)
We have according to the census (which excludes bedrooms and bathrooms) one room and the whole apt is 55 sq m so v small, and vvv cluttered, just I had no where else to go where there wasn't someone asleep :o

Anyway, my ta da list is minimal
dishwasher
washing machine 2loads
grocery shop with dp
collect dd1 from school
keep washing
hotspots (mantlepiece, shelves, washing machine and kitchen table)
wash windows
make dinner
clear up from dinner
cleared hotspots of shelves, mantlepiece and over washing machine
washed the grease off the wall with one of those magic sponges (remember my dilema last month? Yes, it has taken that long Blush )
washed dd1s walls (filthy! How?)

still to do, make dd1s lunch and bed time routine. Easy peasy :)

Tomorrow list includes making a cake and visiting my Nan...

substantiallycompromised · 13/09/2011 22:37

Thank you Swan So am I! (Something perverse in me that makes me want to clean any bit of the house other than the designated area Grin) Suppose it all ends up the same eventually ...

Ouch thought it might be one of those short-cut oven-baked risotto's which you don't have to stir for 25 mins Smile Sounds delicious anyway!

Well done Linzer for accomplishing two types of shredding in one day! Glad you at last had some relaxation too! Being perverse (yet again) I find Cote d'Or too rich and much prefer Swiss chocolate to Belgian which dh says is almost sacrilegious!

You grew up without a washing machine? How interesting! Did you live somewhere v. remote or perhaps you are Amish Smile [extremely nosey emoticon]???

Gosh, I really must go to bed. See you everyone! Sleep well! Tot morgen!

OP posts:
substantiallycompromised · 13/09/2011 22:40

x-post Messy!! But bits of it are spotless and that's what counts Smile!

Ta-da not minimal at all. Oh no. And washing walls is cream-crackering. You are going to have to change your nickname soon you know if you're not careful Grin

Really am off to bed now ... see you!
