Please help before I cry... cleaning quartz worktops?

Our new kitchen was fitted on Friday and I want to cry already. We ahve gone for quartz worktops and I cannot get them to look clean. They show every water mark, drip and smear and wiping them down with a cloth after washing up made them go all smeary. They cost so much money and already they are the bane of my life after 2 days. I want to cry.

How can i clean them without them going all smeary and showing the marks? What do you use to clean yours- what type of cleaner and what cloth? Some cleaner came with it- Apollo Stoneguard? But that was just as bad. Please help!

I know - not a mum just wanted to endorse Method Granite cleaner for quartz tiles. It's great! and smells nice too.

BTW my granite installers also told me to stick to just normal green washing up liquid for the sink. The ones with fruity smells have fruit oil in them which equals smeary oil marks.

So I do just regular hot soapy water and then dry/buff with ecloth. And maybe a weekly Method Granite cleaner.

It's funny how it differs for people - I can't get on with the method spray, it leaves smears, but the Lakeland one is fab.

No don't use cif! It's abrasive.

Have you tried any of the other suggestions in the thread? Method spray or lakelands granite spray?

I have tried Lakeland cleaner but that is a polish is method a polish as well?

No Lakeland sell two different ones - one is a weekly polish, and one is a cleaner.

The method one is a cleaner too.

We have white quartz but I was actually told by the company that installed it to use Cif to clean it. That's what I've been doing for the last 5 years and it doesn't seem to have done any harm.

I have just had quartz worktop fitted. They also have dull smudges all over that won't come off. First of all the company said it must have been caused when I was cooking and try to take them off with astonish this left an even worse mark because it's too abrasive. They said if astonish wouldn't take them off nothing would. When I pointed out that this would make it unfit for purpose if I couldn't cook on the hob, they said it must or happened in transit and wasn't their problem. They're now saying they don't know what it is but it's not them so tough. The guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on. What do I do?

Is the company that supplied the work tops Sheridans? They supplied ours and wo,t send anyone hey just say it's a care and maintenance issue and to use stone guard or if hat doesn't work. Nothing works! I have read on the internet that so many people have trouble with Sheridans

I have black starlight Quartz, had kitchen fitted 3 months ago.
I use soapy water, washing up liquid. Remove excess water with squeezed out cloth then go over with a wash leather. Leaves no smears and looks shiny.

A worryingtrend. We had an Apollo Magna Raven work top fitted a month ago. I have been very disappointed experiencing the same problems as you. Have been in touch with Wickes who supplied and fitted the kitchen and Sheridans who made the work surface. When I spoke to both of them I felt that I was the first person to have had a problem. I have used Apollo Stone Gurad every day as recommended by the company but it still marks with every spot of water. They did suggest that it might improve in time. How do you find the surface now after a couple of months? I would love to hear from you.

Hi
Try using windolene. We gad beautiful stone work tops fitted 7 years ago and couldn't get them to not look smeary. A handyman suggested windowlene (the glass cleaner) and it works. Just that and clean off with a tea towel. Good luck.

Tesco Hob cleaner is remarkable on all surfaces...simply spray on and wipe lightly off with a paper towel...Amazing!

When I had my first Quartz worktop I used a natural stone cleaner and it kept showing smears and marks- apparently Quartz isn’t porous like granite so some products sit on top and leave a film which gets marks in it. I now use soapy water daily then cream cleaner and a sponge on anything stubborn and they are so easy to keep looking good! cif worked on a splodge of korma that had been there for 24 hours+.

cream speckly quartz here and I love it. Use Method multipurpose cleanibg spray and microfibre cloth- one wet, one dry for best results.

Really notice when my DH/DMIL clean it. They tend to use a sponge and soapy water and it looks very smeary after.

It doesn’t matter what you’re using, it’s all in the drying. Buff dry with a micro fibre cloth.

After having quartz worktops for 6 years and spending tons of money on special products, I ran out one day last year and used a splash of Flash all-purpose cleaner with a wet dish cloth and dried off with a microfibre cloth and hey presto no smears, brilliant shine, speedy and cheap as chips (5L size from Costco for buttons), now won’t use anything else!!!
