Welcome, come away in you?ll have had your Brew. This is the April Fledgling Flyers Thread.

Thanks to WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes who was champion at leading us through March.

We are trying to stick to the Flylady © Website and her baby steps and routines to help keep our houses out of C.H.A.O.S and ready for everyday, maybe the odd visitor or two.

Check her website out but don?t sign up for emails as they are likely to inspire but fill your inbox so full we might not see you till August. Grin

The principles are:

Babysteps (one at a time)
Babysteps and 15 minutes daily decluttering
Babysteps and daily missions.

This month I will be posting the links and leading you down the road to building a routine and keeping your house under control.

It is amazing what you can achieve in a simple babystep,15 minutes a day and a little Wink chat.

linzer I love the look of those hotels. But dh would run away screaming at cost! Ds has given up waiting for me to buy a postcard to send to your ds. So he has commissioned himself as royal artist and drawn the royal wedding, horse cart and prince William. [cgrin]

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 28/04/2011 09:56

They're definitely not cheap Nettie and we would never fork out for a whole week in one, but are worth it if you can afford it IMO (although I'm not sure Cinders would agree [cgrin]).

The postcard sounds great. I was just saying on another thread that I really ought to teach the DC a bit more about the royal family (they don't really know who they are and are completely uninterested in the royal wedding), so your DS's card will provide the perfect opportunity. [cgrin]

BlueEyeshadow · 28/04/2011 10:16

washing
put away laundry - yesterday's done
hoover

see if I can get my fringe trimmed

watering in garden
go to Aldi for cheapo climbing plants

Work!!
upstairs hotspots

[cenvy] re Kinderhotel Linzer. Definitely scary ???!

Nettie DS1 likes the idea of bed tidying at the moment, but isn't all that good at it. He puts his PJs under the pillow and arranges his teddies while I do the duvet. I hope the novelty won't wear off any time soon!

LadyInPink · 28/04/2011 10:32

Really hope this weather lasts until after tomorrows festivities - am lending our new union jack gazebo to a friend and hoping it doesn't get soaked then dismantled and put away damp. Also i would love Kate and Wills to have a gorgeous sunny wedding day because at the end of the day she is just a girl who wants sunshine on her special day like any of us.

Food shop done

To do:

Another pile of ironing
Pick prescriptions up from Dr's
Chemist
Put away all my Easter bits i've hung everywhere
Clean kitchen and bathroom
Dust lounge and my bedroom

Maybe not today but i need to put in some bulbs and get my sunflower seeds planted plus green beans and buy strawberry plants. Think I may do that Saturday if it doesn't rain.

Toffee normally i would leave this sort of thing to DH but he had to dash off to work so i had to do it - actually was so chuffed when he came home and i had not only done the filter but the other fiddly filter sheet thingy too Hope you are feeling a bit better today x

Nettie and WKWTTG I know, tell me about it, google is my life saver and is used daily - not sure how i managed without it before [cwink]

Makingchanges · 28/04/2011 12:23

Afternoon all

Have had a busy morning - been to look around a school who have a job for maternity cover which I am considering applying for. Have now sent DH to get my car MOT'ed after I have searched the house for car documents etc and made a long phone call to catch up with BF

Just going to have lunch then my list for this afternoon is:-
-another 1000 words on essay
-Wash bedding
-Go to shops and get bread and something for tea
-Walk to DDs school for pick up time
-Paperwork mountain
-Declutter bathroom

Hope everyone has a lovely day - Back later with personals

swanriver · 28/04/2011 13:55

done
lots of heavy duty gardening - though paid someone to dig out an enormous tree stump, and chop it up with Dh's Axe
rescued hall
rescued kitchen
sorted out school dinner bill till July

now I am going to tackle a large pile of ironing in front room as I can't face upstairs Sad

We are off to York on a three day trip tomorrow to escape Royal Wedding, and see the Railway Museum, Viking Centre, and York Minster, and just generally do something we don't usually do. Woohoo! With children, and on a train. We are not given to adventures as a family so it feels frightening, but Dh has just about managed to cope as he often goes to York on business trips! He has booked whole trip for us Grin

I shall be thinking of all the Yorkshire ladies, especially ones who are no longer on this thead, Wendy OFM especially.

Makingchanges · 28/04/2011 14:01

Oh Swan enjoy York - Its one of my fave cities - Hope you have a great time - Very Envy

CyberwebCinders · 28/04/2011 14:03

but the house is clean...

bye again

swanriver · 28/04/2011 14:24

aargh does anyone know that feeling of bills that need to be paid, and yet you can't find the bill! What's happened to the pile???I feel like an every more amnesiac squirrel who keeps secreting acorns in excellent places and then can't find them...

now having to send emails and ring up various aggrieved parties to find what I owe them...Ballet, music, library fine, bookshop (school dinners at least sorted)

Thank you MC, and hope the job appears suitable. What a lot you get done in the afternoons, I find the clock starts to tick and I go to pieces Blush

BlueEyeshadow · 28/04/2011 14:46

Aldi was absolutely manic! Apparently the whole world wants cheapo climbers, and their credit card machines went down nationally!!

Enjoy York, swan. You've reminded me that I need to pay the CM too.

We're going down to FIL's tomorrow and the plan is that DS1 will stay on his own with them for the long w/e! He's very excited about it, but it's all being played by ear in case he changes his mind... I'm a bit Confused about the idea. But I'm going to go and have a cuppa and write lists before tackling my desk.

NettieSpaghetti · 28/04/2011 18:39

Good evening everyone

I'm sitting in the saloon having some dye applied as I found more grey hair this morning Shock she is doing a concoction who knows what it might look like!!!

blue it's mad how busy it's getting. Maybe everyone is planning on staying at home all day!!! Hope ds enjoys his visit and doesn't bail out at the last minute. Hmm I think I ought to start trying with bedmaking. Ds is such a little boy and shys away from all forms of tidying [cgrin]
swan only back for a mo and off galavanting again. Lucky you. I love York to especially the yorvik Viking centre I'm Envy at you escaping royal wedding. Apologies to anyone who is right into the royals! I don't know if it's the Scottish in me but huge hoohaa it all is.

Nearly there but now i have to bake cakes for royal wedding party tomorrow and ice them red/blue and white so the cleaning will have to wait.

Hope you all have a fab Bank holiday weekend whatever you have planned whether it's royal wedding related or not [csmile]

Toffeefudgecake · 28/04/2011 19:29

Did a long post, with individual messages...

...and lost it.

[cangry]

Sorry, but I can't start all over again, so just want to say hello to you all. Thanks for all the 'get well soons'. I am feeling much better today - well enough to tidy DS2's bedroom, which was suddenly looking horrendous.

Took the boys to the dentist this afternoon and DS2 needs two fillings [csad] [crapmum emoticon]. Am now feeling very guilty because I know I haven't looked after his teeth as well as I did DS1's (no fillings). I just ran out of steam, but that is no excuse.

Tesco has just arrived, so have a roomful of shopping to put away.

am actually quite looking forward to watching the royal wedding tomorrow [cblush]

Toffeefudgecake · 28/04/2011 19:44

I have found my original post! I'm on a different computer from usual and it does weird things - the post was hidden away Confused.

[cgrin] [cgrin] [cgrin]

Hope the 'concoction' works well, Nettie!

Feeling better today - and well enough to blitz DS2's bedroom, which was suddenly looking horrendous. It's all much tidier and hoovered now, but I still have to tackle DS1's bedroom before babysitter comes round tomorrow night.

DS2 was off school today with my bug. He wasn't that ill, though [chmm] and still seemed very energetic and required a lot of attention.

Took boys and myself off to the dentist this afternoon. DS2 needs two fillings [csad]. I feel like such a crap mum. I was so careful with DS1 and he has never needed a filling. He was rarely allowed sweets, had minimal sugar, did lots of teeth brushing, etc - but I had run out of steam by DS2 and was never so strict. I feel dreadful about it now, although the dentist tried to make me feel better by telling me it depended on genetic make-up as well. [guiltymum emoticon]

Had another successful dinner with DS2, by involving him in the cooking. We made homemade fishfingers and he loved dipping the fish in flour, egg and breadcrumbs. If I had simply presented it to him, he would have refused it, but doing it this way means that he wants to try it every time. I've never known him eat such a variety of food!

Nettie - I am quite looking forward to the Royal Wedding tomorrow, although I am not a royalist by any means. I just like the spectacle and the sense of history.

BlueEyes - hope DS's stay with FIL goes well. I'm sure they will both have a great time.

Swan - enjoy York. Went there many, many years ago whilst travelling round Britain with a friend. I loved it, especially the Shambles and the cathedral (which had just been struck by lightning - that dates me!).

MC - good luck with possible job!

Cyber - DC are astonishingly horrible to us sometimes, aren't they? I have been a punchbag many a time, both literally and metaphorically [csad]. Hope DS improves (maybe an early night...?).

Linzer - am impressed by your prep for exercise! Am still at the 'thinking about it' stage.

Bye for now.

Toffeefudgecake · 28/04/2011 19:48

Lady - hope the red, white and blue cakes look fab! I am hoping for a sunny day tomorrow too.

LadyInPink · 28/04/2011 19:49

Toffee if I write a long post i write it in word first and keep saving it then copy and paste once finished. I have lost count of the number of times i have lost a long post where I have poured my heart out or advised someone in a waffly way. It's so frustrating, i do empathise. Please don't beat yourself up on DS2 fillings either. Every child is different and chances are he would have needed them anyway. i'm one of 6 kids and number 4 in the line and i only had my first filling last year (am 35) whereas my siblings all had them as children and my mum would set an egg timer for 2mins for us to brush for so we cleaned well but some teeth are just weaker - please don't blame yourself (unless of course you cleaned his teeth with a sherbet dipper instead of a toothbrush [cwink])

LadyInPink · 28/04/2011 19:56

Ooops just read your last post (X posted) so glad you found it phew. Yes fingers crossed the icing works. Don't know what you think but the coloured food dye you buy in supermarkets never colours dark enough even though i pour half a bottle practically in the bowl. The blue looks mauvey and the red pinky - is it just me? Definintely can't make them into flags as it's runny icing so am icing them individual colours so altogether they will look ok - fingers crossed. I'm also looking forward to watching the wedding in the morning then i'm putting on my bridesmaids dress (DD too) and going to a party. The dress code was wedding attire so thought i'd air my dress i wore last october again. DD on the other hand was just 4 when she was a flower girl and she is nearly 7 now so her dress will be a safety pin jobby [cgrin]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/04/2011 20:54

Toffee - same happened to me a few weeks ago with DD and a filling, I felt terrible for a few days but got over it. She was very good having it done, I am actually grateful it was her and not DS, I don't think he would have been anything like as calm and still for it. We concluded that we had got lax about brushing, I had been letting them do their own, so it is back to me doing it and we are doing a much more thorough job now. Feel the same as you about the Royal Wedding too.

Back later, takeaway has just arrived.

Toffeefudgecake · 28/04/2011 22:31

Thank you, Lady and WhoKnows, for being so reassuring about DS's fillings. The dentist tried to reassure me about all children's teeth being different, like you, Lady, but I suppose I feel guilty anyway because I know I haven't been as strict second time around. I am lax about the brushing too, WKnows, and am going to be stricter about it. Also, the dentist told me that bedtime snacks were really bad for teeth and I always let DSs have a snack just before they brush. Apparently, there should be a one-hour gap between last snack and brushing. We started doing that tonight.

WhoKnows - did your DD need an injection? The dentist is going to try without an infection first, but will do one if necessary. She said she will take it very slowly as she doesn't want DS to get scared. (I think I might be in a worse state than him!).

Lady - that's a good idea about Word. The trouble is, I don't know I'm writing a long post until I'm halfway through! I usually save as I write, but hadn't done that today.

My 5-year old son said, tonight, "Are we going to the Royal Wedding tomorrow, Mum?" If I'd said yes, he would have believed me. He says he is really excited about it and is making flags in the morning.

DH and I are going to a 70s/80s disco tomorrow night. I was going to wear a 70s-style paisley shirt of mine that I've had for years, but forgot that I am certainly not a size 8 anymore and can't fit into it [cblush]. So it will be normal clothes for me, but maybe after a few drinks I can still be a disco queen (in my mind, at least!).

Good night all

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/04/2011 22:46

No, she didn't have one. I didn't tell her too much in advance for fear of scaring her, just told her the dentist was going to fix her tooth. Told the dentist when we arrived that I hadn't explained too much, so he showed her the tools and what was going to happen. She took a teddy to cuddle. I've been told by others that if an injection is needed they numb the gum with gel first.

I used Word for my posts last month when I was doing the roundups really didn't wnt to lose those.

Well, did a sort of home blessing today, hoovered whole house, dusted, cleaned cooker, all sorts of random jobs, plus some shopping and took the Dcs to tennis after school, spent a pleasant 90 mins chatting with a friend there, so a nice day on the whole. Off to bed now.

NettieSpaghetti · 28/04/2011 22:57

hiya everyone,

toffee that leaving an hour between eating n brushing is very difficult. I hope ds is ok. i dont supervise enough!
whoknows hope you enjoyed your takeaway
lady good luck with cakes hope it all goes well tomorrow.
cyber join me please in Blackpool, just bring your drinking tummy. [cgrin]
.

Hair looks ok, mil reckons not adventurous enough but never mind.

DH has been shouting at me [csad] apparently i never listen to him. (kitchen flooded as washing machine filter blocked but full of water and i was making it flood everywhere! [chmm] [cconfused] Anyway he has gone out on his boat and i have eaten lots and drunk some wine. Think i need a rant in aibu.

DS took part in the Royal Wedding today at nursery. I have a story board of himand his bride with photos [cgrin] so cool. Then when i got back tonight he said. 'mummy im married just like you and daddy'[cgrin]

DD is very excited about tomorrow as she is desperate to wear her Belle Princess Dress, DC has gotten over the fact that he has neither prince nor knight to wear as i explained to him that the Royal family need superheroes and thats why he has an ironman outfit [cgrin]

Linkies

pamper yourself

pretty your room

Hope you all have a fab day tomorrow. Night all.

OP posts:
Toffeefudgecake · 28/04/2011 23:54

Nettie - glad you are happy with your new hair colour. It's so difficult to know how far to go with colour, but your opinion matters more than your MIL's. My MIL was very confused when I came home with hair that looked the same as when I'd left. I think she wondered what I'd shelled out all that money for. But then she swore I didn't have any white hairs (not being able to see that well) - whereas I knew better.

Sorry your DH has been shouting at you [csad]. I don't understand why he thinks the washing machine flooding was your fault [cconfused]. Even if it is your fault, he shouldn't shout at you. I'm glad you have found solace in a glass or two of Wine. Hope the flood is mopped up and the washing machine is working soon. And that you and DH make it up before tomorrow and enjoy the Royal Wedding festivities. I love your children's costumes, especially the superhero one!

Off to browse MN threads before bed. This is the first time I've been alone all day .

Good night (and good afternoon/evening to Cheerful).

ColdHeartedBitch · 29/04/2011 01:53

Evening. It will be another fail on the early night babystep. It will also be another fail on getting flying done today. And another day of lego hell, and feeling like walking death. Day 3 antibiotics done. I should start to feel better tomo. right?

You have all be ever so productive. Very impressive.

Must confess, ds knows virtually nothing about the royal wedding and is unlikely to encounter much tomo either. Going to chuck him into the garden or something. I really DONT want the wedding on the tv tomo. I need other stuff to distract ds and keep him busy. I soooo need some more energy to do stuff with ds. He has enough energy to run a small city off.

ColdHeartedBitch · 29/04/2011 02:10

Btw have you seen HQ have hung out the bunting for the wedding.
