Genius cleaning products I don't know about - what do you swear by? Please help me fill my empty cupboard

Following on from the washing powder thread.

I had decided that 2011 would be Year of the Tidy, Clean and Fragrant Home. Then went to the cupboard and discovered I own almost no products to make this happen.

I don't think I've ever made a choice in the domestic products aisle that wasn't based on 2for1 or some other supermarket gimmick. I have no brand loyalty.

So, please, Domestic Darlings, what do I need? We need your help!

We own a mop, a dustpan and brush, a rubbish hoover, some Pledge, own brand Sainsbury's anti-bac spray and washing up liquid, some j-cloths and that's it.

Barkeepers Friend - amazing for sinks & so much more.
Reed diffusers for room fragrance.
White vinegar for limescale around taps etc.

soppypreggyloon · 04/02/2011 20:26

A few microfibre cloths- for wet dusting and cleaning bathroom.
A glass cloth (I have a green spontex one) for streakfree mirrors and tv
Method products in bathroom
Dettol for kitchen/ ds spillages
1001 stain remover spray for carpet- got carrot purée puke out of a cream wool carpet!
Shout stain remover spray
Viakyl for stubborn limescale

That's about it I think

morethanyoubargainfor · 04/02/2011 20:30

the complete range of Methid products, it is all i use and i love them.

Ecover limescale remover is also really good.

And a little thing for cleaning behind radiators and between the elements.

My biggest must have is an electric toothbrush for the toilets, can't live without them Blush

morethanyoubargainfor · 04/02/2011 20:30

method not methid

KiwiKat · 04/02/2011 20:34

Grotbuster for getting clean grouting. Fab.

LemonDifficult · 04/02/2011 20:37

Electric toothbrush for the toilet Shock! I really have been neglecting things.

What are Method products? Not sure I've even heard of them. Or ever seen a glass cloth. I have not been concentrating in the homecare aisle. (But I knew that already.)

Do you get the vinegar in the cleaning aisle or the food aisles?

flash ultra

dettol mould remover

microfibre cloths

white vinegar for the kettle

bleach for bogs

BilboBloggins · 04/02/2011 20:41

Stardrops. I use it for cleaning everything.

duckyfuzz · 04/02/2011 20:41

Yes, method products great, also e-cloths

HattiFattner · 04/02/2011 20:42

lakesland's ovenmate. You will never use anything else.

cece · 04/02/2011 20:42

cif or other cream cleaner is pretty much all you need in my opinion. Oh and hot soapy water.

cwtchy · 04/02/2011 20:42

If you have anything stainless steel in your kitchen, once you've cleaned it a smidge of baby oil get rid of all streaks and makes it look fab.

cybbo · 04/02/2011 20:43

Method shower spray

WincyEtNightie · 04/02/2011 20:48

My tip for keeping on top of the bathroom between "proper" cleans is flash wipes. (Dettol do them too but they are a bit foamier).

Quick once over the sink etc whilst DC are in bath = Bob's your uncle.

peachybums · 04/02/2011 20:49

White vinegar and lemon oil for general cleaning of kitchen and bathroom. Flash with febreeze for the floor (smells gorgeous) and oven pride for the oven. I use bleach for soaking dishcloths and the mop.

Elk · 04/02/2011 20:51

cilit bang cleaner - we live in a hard water area and it is great at removing limescale.

microfibre cloths + vinegar for cleaning mirrors etc.

Very rarely use polish, just a damp cloth for dusting.

morethanyoubargainfor · 04/02/2011 20:53

i give you method cleaning products

Happy shopping.

cleaning the toilet with the toothbrush makes it all sparkly and very shiny Wink.

FluteyBoots · 04/02/2011 20:55

Toilet duck gel discs
Cif
Domestos
Windolene

Think that's about all I have

duckyfuzz · 04/02/2011 20:58

No wipes or bleach or general chemical nastiness, except for oven!

mackereltaitai · 04/02/2011 20:59

e-mop - buy starter pack and one extra cloth so that you can bung each cloth in the hot wash when finished mopping

ecover spray for surfaces

white vinegar for final polish of mirrors, windows and shower screen

TheProvincialLady · 04/02/2011 21:00

Ditch the pledge, it's smelly and pointless!

Buy:
Microfibre cloths for wet/dry dusting and for cleaning generally
Proper wax polish if you have wood furniture - you only need to do it very occasionally and just dust and rub in between
Flash liquid cleans hard surfaces really well
Bleach for stains and toilets
Oven Pride for your oven, it's marvellous stuff!
Windolene glass spray - use with a microfibre cloth

thefirstMrsDeVere · 04/02/2011 21:01

METHOD!!!!!

I love the stuff. I clean a LOT. A lot a lot.

I use method all purpose and glass cleaner. It cost a bit more per bottle but it lasts for ages.

I have method for the bathroom too. I use it daily but for my weekly clean I do fall back on the bleach spray. Any supermarket one is fine.

MIMO you only need (excluding specialist stainless steel/marble/wax etc)
All purpose/furniture polish
Glass cleaner (although I think the method all purpse would probably do for that as well)
Cleaner spray with bleach
Floor cleaner - supermarket brand.

If you use E cloths you dont need a load of sprays and stuff.

I am inordinatly fond of antibac wipes though. I use an awful lot of them which is probably really bad but I cant help myself.

I HATE cillit bang. It stinks and not in a good 'clean' way.

TheProvincialLady · 04/02/2011 21:27

Is Method like Astonish? I hated that stuff.

shodatin · 04/02/2011 23:14

Dettol or Morrisons floorcleaning cloths, white vinegar and a couple of microcloths are all the extras you need, imo, but I'd change the Pledge for beeswax polish or lavendar.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/02/2011 15:48

NOOOOOOOO method is all posh and chemical free.

Astonish is pound shop and smelly.
