Genius cleaning products I don't know about - what do you swear by? Please help me fill my empty cupboard

Following on from the washing powder thread.

I had decided that 2011 would be Year of the Tidy, Clean and Fragrant Home. Then went to the cupboard and discovered I own almost no products to make this happen.

I don't think I've ever made a choice in the domestic products aisle that wasn't based on 2for1 or some other supermarket gimmick. I have no brand loyalty.

So, please, Domestic Darlings, what do I need? We need your help!

We own a mop, a dustpan and brush, a rubbish hoover, some Pledge, own brand Sainsbury's anti-bac spray and washing up liquid, some j-cloths and that's it.

Liquid soda crystals. Wicked stuff and very cheap.

It cleans everything, including spot cleaning on clothes, before you put them in the washer.

No bleach and about a quid from Wilkinsons.

It's pretty much the only thing I use, although I do buy Febreeze floor cleaner.

Method Multi Surface Cleaner Lavender - all their products are excellent, they look expensive but last for ages. Their laundry liquid is good too but that does work out too expensive.
Method Best In Glass window cleaner.
Method Tub and Tile
Oven Mate oven cleaner - can't be beaten!
Barkeepers Friend, for Belfast sink.
Microfibre Cloths
JML Microfibre Mit brill' for dusting georgian glass doors.
Fairy Liquid
Sainsburys Carpet Stain Remover
Brillo pads, green scourers.
Oust
Ecover Floor Soap

Alouiseg · 05/02/2011 18:29

Gin - to help you get through it Wink

JetLi · 05/02/2011 21:18

Stardrops - use it for everything.
Microfibre cloths.

OsbegaEthewulf · 05/02/2011 21:25

You do not need a cupboard full of different products. Get yourself...
some microfibre cloths (Aldi's are ver good)
a bottle of stardrops (you can do anything with these, windows, woollens, washing up, floors etc)
soda crystals- good for added cleaning boost for laundry, greasy pans etc
I also use White windsor household soap (from Boots) for scrubbing kitchen tops, clothes, grubby gardening hands etc.

Single malt whisky much nicer than gin!

TeaOneSugar · 05/02/2011 21:56

Microfibre Cloths
Method all purpose spray & shower spray
Method furniture polish - smells divine Barkeepers friend for the sink and pans.
Oven Mate
Stardrops
Method spray and mop and a microfibre mop
Method tub scrub
Method toilet cleaner
Method leather wipes.

Alouiseg · 06/02/2011 09:30

Method Tub scrub is fantastic for cleaning grubby grout too.

FellatioNelson · 06/02/2011 17:32

I prefer the gin though Wink

(I'm stalking your threads now - have you noticed yet?)

LemonDifficult · 07/02/2011 17:33

Oh good, I already have gin in stock. Henceforth to be known as Cleaner's Ruin.

Should I move it to the cleaning cupboard? Do you think this will make a bad impression when anyone else offers to help out? Maybe I should just keep it in the cistern so it's handy when I'm doing the bathroom...

Oven Pride

it literally made my oven (which kim and aggie would't have even tackled) brand new again!!!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 07/02/2011 17:37

Misread, bleach for the dogs rather than bleach for the bogs Grin

Milliways · 19/02/2011 17:38

Thanks to this thread I have just spent a small fortune on METHOD shower spray ( Mr Muscle Shower Shine was making me choke), METHOD All purpose, the Glass cleaner & the Tub n Tile!

Just been playing, and they smell GEORGEOUS.

Oh, I also picked up Stardrops to try as Sainsburys have it for 55p a bottle!

Now I want to try the MEthos foaming hand wash - anyone use it?

FluffyMummy123 · 19/02/2011 17:38

Schmaffy · 21/02/2011 17:07

method products - all purpose cleaner, tub n tile, tub scrub, glass cleaner, shower spray, floor cleaner and polish all smell AMAZING and work well. I use them with e-cloths (the kitchen set and the bathrooms set and an e-mop.)

I've only converted to housework this year (just become a SAHM) but it is actually a pleasure using these products. Been with DP 13 years and he cannot believe the change in me (or the house!) but it is easy with nice stuff (and with ecloths you don't need to use the products every day, e.g. i wipe the bathroom and kitchen down with just e cloths and water every day, and then use the method products a couple of times a week. I wouldn't bother with any of their the wipes though, much better off just getting some decent cloths and the sprays - method wipes are small and unsatisfying IMO.

didymosity · 21/02/2011 22:37

ps ta for book linke noelle. have added to wishlist (birthday next week) although I doubt anyone will buy me it... everyone is quite bewildered by my new love of cleaning...

Milliways · 22/02/2011 19:23

Schmaffey: Stardrops Uses here and here :)

stofstg · 23/02/2011 21:12

Aworryingtrend · 25/02/2011 12:45
