We have just found out that you can buy larger pillows for king size beds and so if we buy the new pillows, we'll need new bed linen Smile.

I've not really paid that much attention to it before but after sleeping in some gorgeous sheets while on holiday this autumn it's made me what to invest a little more time and money and get some good stuff. Also, we invested fairly heavily in a fabulous new mattress a year or so ago and it seems a shame to not make the whole sleep experience as pleasant as possible

So, any recommendations gratefully received.

TIA

Quick question about high thread count sheets...

Do they need ironing more than cheaper stuff? I don't have the time or will power to make myself iron but would love some decent quality sheets etc

Pannacotta · 16/01/2011 16:42

Simply you can get kingsize pillowcases in Dunelm and White Co as well as JL.

preghead · 16/01/2011 16:46

I need some bedline but am completely baffled by the types. For instance, White Company has:

Cotton
Cotton Percale
Egyptian Cotton
Egyptian Cotton Percale
Egyptian Cotton Sateen
Polycotton

I know Egyptian cotton is the best type and poly anything is cheap and nasty but what is percale? Money no object do I want Egyptian Cotton or Egyptian Cotton percale? Or is Cotton Percale ok? I assume Cotton is a bitch with creases?

What does it all mean!!

acumenin - Porthault looks amazing. Anything else at the upper end that I should put on my wish?

I'm just about to invest in some expensive bedlinen. Can the experts on this thread tell me how to keep it looking good - what's your wash and dry technique?

LemonDifficult · 20/01/2011 16:10

Thanks, Bacon. I feel sleepy just looking at it.

Does anyone know if the Toast Home bedlinen is good quality? I like some of their things too.

Porthault is seriously glorious. I kick myself I didn't buy more at the time. For cotton, I don't think you can do better.

Matteo, especially for quilted coverlets etc, is good, but you have to get someone in the States to post it to you (a bit galling when the website bangs on about all its quality European fabric).

Rindercella · 21/01/2011 21:03

hollowman did you namechange from mottobhai by any chance?

Your website looks shite by the way. Posters are asking for quality bedlinen recommendations; not crap. Smile

bacon · 22/01/2011 11:02

Plumm - According to my lovey Bedeck bedding it recommends not using softner - It was shiny bits and would assume washing with "white" washing powder (use the colour) will only fade it over time so opted out of softner. Suppose best ironed inside out as well.

Having the fancy pillow cases are lovely but stopping my husbands head from rubbing the pattern (outside worker so sometimes a bit dirty) so I try (being the operative word) turn the pillow over to the plain side.

Come on Hollowman & mottobhai - anyone selling Katie Price bedding - should be shot - sorry!

TeaOneSugar · 22/01/2011 14:34

I second the hotel range at Dunhelm, they do up to 400 thread count.

alibubbles · 22/01/2011 17:30

This is my bed, it is divine, and I triple sheet it just like hotels, using a lovely blanket from Canada and silk eiderdown from White Company
serious bedlinen

I'm disappointed with the last stuff I got from JL - it washed really badly and hasn't lasted well, which surprised me as as I have kids bed linen from them than gets washed an awful lot more and still looks and feels great.

anniewoo · 11/05/2012 07:31

White Company duvet cover difficult to iron even with a steam generator iron.

ZacharyQuack · 16/05/2012 00:09

Preghead - percale is a reference to the number of thread counts per square inch a fabric has. The more, the better. To be called percale, the fabric has to have a minimum count of 180 threads per square inch. This can be cotton, Egyptian cotton or polycotton. On this site www.homespacedirect.com there is a bedding buying guide that explains this in more detail. Hope it helps. Ps. Yes cotton is a pain to iron.

FreeButtonBee · 11/08/2012 08:32

We have some lovely stuff from the white co. It's wonderful. Mudt admit we never iron it but it looks perfectly fine on the bed without provided you dry it sensibly - we do it over the bannister. Got rid of everything else (including all our JL and TK Maxx bargains) and just have two sets from the white co. I love clean sheet day!
