We are having our kitchen re-done soon and we are making space for a dishwasher. We're not buying it right away, we'll save up - but I am having fun anticipating and looking up reviews etc.

Can anyone recommend a dishwasher? DH is saying Zanussi, as his sister used to have one and apparently it was very reliable.

I've never had a dishwasher before! I'm now reading 'dishwasher' threads on here with glee, I understand it will change my life Grin

we had a zanussi which did a good job but only lasted a few years.

we bought a bosch to replace it - can't remember the model but it was a mid range one. it was brilliant - easy to stack and cleaned really well.

we moved to a house that had a built in dishwasher so gave the bosch to pil and it is still going strong.

our current dishwasher is a hotpoint and is beyond awful. it is a nightmare to stack and cleans very poorly in comparison to the bosch.

i have been known to stand in my pil kitchen staring longingly at our old bosch.

i actually can't wait for the hotpoint to go wrong so i have an excuse to replace it - and will go for a bosch one again.

A Siemens, Bosch or Miele.

Seona1973 · 13/10/2010 08:43

we have a bosch one that is good. the one before was a hoover and is still going strong at my sisters house

Nyx · 13/10/2010 15:04

Thanks all for your advice - so Zanussi perhaps not so good then? Bosch sounds like the best so far, but having googled they're quite pricey - I shall have to see if there are any bargains to be had!

Has anybody got any more recommendations?

Bump!

We just bought the cheapest that Comet has - a proline, I think - and it washes beautiful. To be fair though we've only had it a week so there's plenty of time for it to go wrong!

Lynli · 13/10/2010 23:07

I have had Zanussi and now have Bosch. The zanussi was ok for the money. Bosch is much quicker and costs less to run.

MollieO · 13/10/2010 23:08

Miele very reliable and very quiet.

tokyonambu · 13/10/2010 23:13

Bosch and AEG are now just brands of other makers, and are shadows of their former selves. Our Bosch was hopeless. We now have a Miele dishwasher and washing machine, on the grounds that a ten year warranty is worth the premium.

chixinthestix · 13/10/2010 23:17

I've got a miele and its fab - it was the which recommended model when we got it 3 yrs ago and is supposed to have the best eco rating (water and electric use).

It also has a top tray for cutlery instead of a basket and I would definitely recommend that as you can fit loads more on the bottom shelf. I think they are probably on the pricy end of the scale but no breakdowns so far!

tokyonambu · 13/10/2010 23:20

"It also has a top tray for cutlery instead of a basket "

Which is brilliant. I'm just off to unload mine now.

Nyx · 13/10/2010 23:30

Hmmm, Miele ones are rather too expensive for us I think, although you've made me want one now! I will keep on looking. I can't wait, I can't wait.

LadyLapsang · 13/10/2010 23:40

Miele, wasn't that expensive & still going strong 6/7 years....

Seona1973 · 14/10/2010 09:07

my Bosch one also has a tope cutlery tray instead of a basket which frees up space on the bottom shelf

Seona1973 · 14/10/2010 09:08

top, not tope!!

mrsden · 14/10/2010 09:18

We have John Lewis own brand one and it is great. It was also one of the cheapest at the time for a tripple A rated one. We've had it for 3 years and never had a problem with it, easy to use, easy to stack, cleans well etc. And I've always found the customer service from John Lewis to be great.

MollieO · 14/10/2010 10:01

You can get some very good internet deals for white goods. I bought my Miele on line and it was a lot cheaper than if I'd got if from John Lewis etc.

roxyhouse · 15/10/2010 19:44

Just got a Bosch one and it's great - so much better than old one (which was either Indesit or Baumatic). It gets everything much cleaner and is also really quiet - if the kitchen's open plan that's worth looking into as some dishwashers are quite noisy.

pooka · 15/10/2010 19:46

Another vote for Bosch.

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 15/10/2010 20:01

Miele.,
SO QUIET.

Can you hear it?

No, nor can I. It's a dream machine.

Nyx · 15/10/2010 21:56

Thanks again everyone. I am grateful you're all giving me your thoughts, as I am a complete newbie at the whole dishwasher thing.

My kitchen isn't open plan, but it's a very small flat and the kitchen door's always open (or the cats try to claw up the carpet!) - so I guess it is open plan, sort of Grin

JaynieB · 15/10/2010 22:58

Mine is a Bosch - its ok, but not great. It is fairly quiet though.
Replaced an old Bosch which was far superior - the old one was much better build quality and better layout inside, the newer one is flimsy in comparison.

gaelicsheep · 15/10/2010 23:04

I've got a Hotpoint Ultima one and wouldn't say it's crap, but then I've nothing to compare it against. It's certainly miles better than washing up by hand. I have found, however, that unless I rinse off much of the stuff by hand it doesn't get it totally clean, and the things are still quite wet when the cycle finishes. If you can get one on offer though I'd recommend.

Urbanvoltaire · 16/10/2010 07:38

Another Bosch vote here, about to replace it (new kitchen) with one with the cutlery tray (impaled myself once too often!)
