Can I sing the prasises of my new pulley airer?

We put up our new 6-rail 1.8m airer at the weekend (easier job than I thought!) and I'm so, so pleased with it. It fits loads on - almost 2 full 7kg loads and dries far quicker than my clothes horse used to. Most of the load I put on late yesterday evening was bone dry tonight and no nasty musty smells! It looks pretty cool too.

I bought mine from eBay - 48 quid including next day delivery, which is much cheaper than I've seen elsewhere.

Would totally recommend.

I've got one too- i LURVE it

I'd have one in every room of the house

battyburpthebarbaric · 11/10/2010 21:07

I would love to have space for one.

Had one in a previous house and I miss it.

It was above the aga and stuff dried so so quickly.

Also miss my aga

Sad

Would love one, but ceilings not high enough, unfortunately.Envy

Littlefish · 11/10/2010 21:09

Link please! I need an airer in my utility room....

LoopyLoops · 11/10/2010 21:09

I got one for Christmas. Was a bit Hmm (not really an indulgent present from DH...) but I love it too.

OnlyWantsOne · 11/10/2010 21:10

I have one too - in the space above the stairs - two loads of washing on it, and sheets etc - dry so flat and smooth. Love it. Hang DP's shits on it on hangers and they barely need ironing plus it makes the whole upstairs smell glorious

LoopyLoops · 11/10/2010 21:11

Like so, but Ebay

Aitch · 11/10/2010 21:13

that's a brilliant price, OP, could you link to the seller please?

MadameCastafiore · 11/10/2010 21:15

I want one but fear the walls and ceilings in our house wouldn't support one - I am going to go around poking them with screwdriver for the next week though - how heavy do they get with a load of washing on?

OnlyWantsOne - you hang DP's shits on it?? Grin

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 11/10/2010 21:51

I love my pulley airer - although I am peturbed by the fact that OnlyWantsOne can hang her DP's shits up and 'it makes the whole upstairs smell glorious'

Grin
OnlyWantsOne · 11/10/2010 21:56

yes, because ironing them is sticky business Grin

suzikettles · 11/10/2010 21:59

I saw a 6 rung pulley somewhere and am sorely tempted to upgrade. And possibly go for 2.4m (and then bring down my kitchen ceiling probably).

They are absolutely brilliant.

suzikettles · 11/10/2010 22:00

Oh, just re-read your op and you've got the 6 rung one [green] Grin

suzikettles · 11/10/2010 22:01

[green]? Hmm

Envy Grin

DaisySteiner · 11/10/2010 22:55

We got it from here

TheNextMrsDepp - we don't have high ceilings at all, it works fine, just means it needs to be hung out of the way so you don't get hit in the face with wet washing, lol. Ours is just strung up over the worktop in the utility room.

MadamCastafiore - you secure it to the joists in the ceiling so it is very secure and will take a lot of weight. The screws and fittings are all supplied, you just need to locate the joists by tapping the ceiling (have to admit we did end up having to drill a few small holes to locate the second joist as we couldn't find it!)

It is SO brilliant

I have one from Ikea

It looks flimsy, but is not. I would quite like to marry it.

MimsyStarr · 11/10/2010 23:02

I'm with you, it never ceases to amaze me how fast things dry on it. I know hot air rises and all that, but still.

Our rope broke once - luckily no one was standing underneath it.

DandyDan · 12/10/2010 12:01

We have two, one on each side of the utility room. I love them and would have another if we had space.

Aitch · 12/10/2010 15:08

great, daisy. i paid twice as much for my 6-lath one. have noted in case we move house and i need another.

prettybird · 12/10/2010 17:58

That's made me wonder that when we do our bathroom and restore the celing height to its "proper" height (Victorian House. 3.5m high celings Shock), I could include a pulley drier and still not impede the re-design's clean lines (not that I've designed it yet Hmm), even though it is a long narrow room.

Aitch · 12/10/2010 18:01

oh oh oh YES you can because it will be invisible and all you do (i know because have done so) to stop the rope from being on the diagonal and therefore visible at head height is have a hook higher up the wall. so the knot from the rope goes under the cleat then you wrap the rope UP over the other hook and around and around, tuck in the free end and then secure everything nicely with the now-tight rope coming from the pulley.

there is NO WAY you understand what i just said but get back to me for photos if you do it.

prettybird · 12/10/2010 18:07

Didn't the House Doctor once make someone throw out one of these when she was sorting out their house on the basis that "no-one uses these any more"??? HmmShock

Aitch · 12/10/2010 18:26

well they don't in the states, that's for sure. tumble dryers all the way there.
