Can I sing the prasises of my new pulley airer?

We put up our new 6-rail 1.8m airer at the weekend (easier job than I thought!) and I'm so, so pleased with it. It fits loads on - almost 2 full 7kg loads and dries far quicker than my clothes horse used to. Most of the load I put on late yesterday evening was bone dry tonight and no nasty musty smells! It looks pretty cool too.

I bought mine from eBay - 48 quid including next day delivery, which is much cheaper than I've seen elsewhere.

Would totally recommend.

I suspect that's why Ann Maurice was so traumatised by the sight of one Wink and assumed that it would "bring down the value" of houses over here to have one still on display! Grin

Poor American sensibilities Grin

They are fab. There is one in the utility room of our new house.

I have one and I love it! dh thinks should use tumble drier more but it can dry 2 loads a day over the rayburn (mini aga.. - also love that!)

Am Envy of OP's pulley airer. Had one of these in the UK, but living in a rental means we can't have one.

They are fab; never needed to buy a tumble drier with one of these, and no hideous clothes over the bath or hanging on radiators. But then we did have a utility room.

Envy Envy Envy

Used to have one but it fell down. We assumed the old joists couldn't support the weight. I have recently found out it's not the age of our house but more a case of someone playing Tarzan!

I still can't get DH to agree to getting another one

On prices, I've just ordered one from here. It's a kitchen maid as well, but I hunted high and low for the best price, as I really wanted the flat one, and they're just a little bit cheaper here than I could find anywhere else, given that it's free postage.

Oh, I want one. Can you put them in kitchens or do things get cooking smells on them? Or do people just avoid cooking while clothes are drying?

I've had one in every place we've owned and it would quite possibly be a major deciding factor in anywhere we might move to in the future. The first one was an original in our 1st teeny tenement flat, I got the second installed in our second slightly larger tenement flat. Both had high ceilings - the second was in the kitchen and I didn't notice any smell. If the ceiling is high enough I don't think it matters.

When we moved here I didn't think we could fit one in (70s bungalow box) but we have a lean-to porch/utility and it's fine at the steepest bit of the ceiling. My in-laws have TWO original ones, both about 2.5m long Envy. Also in kitchen (although also v high ceilings) and fine. I think they have replaced the pulley rope once in 30 years!
