swanriver · 13/10/2010 16:55

so am I, kids in front of telly after piano outing - I have no excuse...

Nuttybear · 13/10/2010 18:21

Evening all funtime I would love to get involved landsharing but I don't even have time to do my own gardenSad I do love gardening Smile
Swan What is your DH beliefs/religon for you to call it a mixed marriage? My DH calls his parents marriage mixed because she was from Notting Hill and his Dad who was from Shepherd Bush Ha!Ha! DH goes to church, I don't but, support it by making cakes and big pots of chilli. Apparently they have done studies in American that shows that people who attend a place of worship get involved in their community in general and participate in civic duty. But their isn't a Humanist place to come together Sad I think that's me now!
Well I better get on with things as this is a fly thread not politics or chat thread! Grin

wendyhappysmile · 13/10/2010 18:36

Hi all
interesting religious discussion here - both DH and me are of the same mind luckily (atheist) but I envy those who have faith in some ways, as you say Nutty, churches provide a sense of community in our isolated society. I try to surround myself with loving friends and family instead but it's hard when everyone is so busy.

I am fat and tired today Grin off to bed after the Apprentice and a bath

BB tomorrow

dylsmum1998 · 13/10/2010 19:41

evening all.

very interesting discussion on religion today. I think I am more alongside with nutty and the humanism but love the idea of the community spirit the church provides that is what i miss.

Swan glad you were able to put down that you are practicising catholics to help you and school choice. It is hard to find a balance with religioin. I know if I was religious it would be another debate to overcome with dc dads. dc are enjoying their new schools. Thank you for asking.

DD had her day at before and after school club run at the school today. She has loved it. Am a little confused why I have had a message passed through them to me to ask for an inhaler for her to keep at school, as I took her one in on her first day Hmm. Must get her dad to speak to teacher about it in morning.

today done
full day at uni
tidy
wash up
load/unload washer

to do
uni work
get ready for tomorrow- first day of my first placement. Am starting to feel stressed and worriewd about it now. Am sure I will feel better once I get there and all variables won't be unknown then

LOL Nutty...where did your dh's parents live...mine lived in NH too..in the days when it was much less posh 70's and 80's, but even then..the Shepherd's Bush roundabout was the great divide. [aside.what a horrid place that is, have been stuck on bus round it too many times to think Westfield the slightest bit tempting)

When I say "mixed" I just mean he does not believe in church going. He is Protestant but I know plenty of devout Protestant churchgoers round here. I think he just resents the way it interferes with Sunday, and in various subconscious subtle ways will undermine our attendance, although not always. He's changed a lot in this respect, and I think he almost enjoys going when he does go. Though he claims not to listen to anything. And complains if the music is bad.

done
Beavers, Brownies, dodgeball, crazy overtired children, finished Moomin book, now onto Enid again (boarding school life -if only) loaded dw, ate some cheese and red wine, now Madmen!

swanriver · 13/10/2010 21:41

Three harvest festivals WOW. Ours was entirely cans, not very inspiring. As veg goes OFF. (?)

Ds similarily relaxed about High School. Too much homework or mention thereof puts him off a little.

Nuttybear · 14/10/2010 09:44

Morning all
Wendy As DH and I met while he was Head of Year and I was the Police School Involvement Officer we believe in that phrase 'it takes a village to bring up a child' So when we had DS we tried to be true to this idea. I find just getting involved in local activities helps us be true to this idea.
Swan Not sure of the road in NH but his aunt lives around the corner from QPR and he lived near the White City Estate. When I was little I lived off Portobello Road in Goldbourne Road. It wasn't posh then but you did meet very posh people from Holland Park.
Yep! Church does interfer with everything else. He goes once a month now and the other 3 to tag Rugby with a crowd of friends.
Westfield haven't made it there yet Sad
Must get on with my day! Grin Back in a mo with list

Nuttybear · 14/10/2010 09:49

Building Soc to put Birth day chq in!
Money out to pay friend for party
Phone curtain people
Order new recycling bag for cardboard
E-mail to council about dog poo (it's so petty but.......)
E-mail to Ds's mate's Mum re half term

Tidy house I (is called home blessing or blitz?!)
For tea Steamed salmon & veg (easy)
Laters

swanriver · 14/10/2010 10:04

Nutty yes, it's easy isn't it to think "I can't face getting involved" in village type activities, and just try and sort out one's own life - hide away etc be nice to one's own family only, do just as one likes, but then in a funny way one's life is the village. Portobello was a real village wasn't it?

Have had a rather exciting morning - Ds2 had a coin stuck up his nose Confused so hotfooted it to Dr first thing. Who removed it. So now I have to get him back to school, and start on this very grimy house - feel in a bit of a daze really, but have done some ood shopping in between

swanriver · 14/10/2010 10:05

food not ood!

Nuttybear · 14/10/2010 10:36

Swan Sorry ha! ha! ha! LOL Now that's a 'Carry on' moment. Re: Portobello Road yes, it was. We still make a point of going to the green grocer who is a very old lady, a Londoner in Golbourne Road to say hello. The last time I was there with Mum she held Mum's hand and said ' It's like the Road to Morroco 'er now! Not like when you were 'ere it was lovely...' My Mum is Spanish, Dad Pakistani...Grin
Right list
Order new recycling bag done
E-mail to council about dog poo E-mail done
Ds's mate's Mum re half term done

Nuttybear · 14/10/2010 10:37

Morning Funtimes

funtimewincies · 14/10/2010 10:44

Morning Nutty!

It's funny, I sometimes think that I'd like the idea of living somewhere bustling and busy (like a city) but I'm so much of a country mouse that I know I'd be rocking in a corner within days Grin.

Nuttybear · 14/10/2010 12:07

Funtimes The country mouse can always visit the city mice for adventure, then get home in time for tea and cake by the fire Smile I think it makes a lovely picture.
Read Pipkin of Pepper www.amazon.co.uk/Pipkin-Pepper-Helen-Cooper/dp/0552546313/ref=pd_sim_b_1 I'm one of the police dogs!Smile
Used it to teach children what to do if your lost!
I've done a Tidy Blitz (15 mins in each room)
Off to the bank! Smile

funtimewincies · 14/10/2010 12:33

Grin Nutty. I have the most appalling sense of direction anywhere built up. Hills - no problems, towns - I could get lost driving to the end of the road!

Nuttybear · 14/10/2010 15:10

funtime I was sent by the council on a Mountain Leaders course in Wales(I can do Surrey Hills, not Mountains) I'm quite good at maps too. I should not have been on the course really. The instructor and I laughed as I couldn't go into the mountains on my own but more than happy in Soho at 3am. He was the opposite couldn't do the city! Horses for courses Smile I would be very happy to show you around I love my city Smile

Hi all.

DD gone to cheercats.

Ds1 has sung a rendition of The World Cup song (Waving Flag)which has brought tears to my eyes. He is so good at singing (unfortunately cannot do it on stage Hmm only round kitchen table.

now out for some more civic duties Hmmneed to find some clean clothes which don't smell of frying

swanriver · 14/10/2010 18:28

Oh Nutty and Fun I am a geek as far as maps are concerned. I love them slavishly, as cannot "read the road", or path at all, or tell North from South, right from left. I spend hours just enjoying the A-Z and local maps.

funtimewincies · 14/10/2010 19:27

Oooh, Swan, you'd love my maps from a holiday to Orkney and Shetland a few years ago. With all the pre-historic sites and stuff, they're really interesting Grin!
