Brabantia Bins - why are they so expensive and are they worth it?

Bought a new kitchen bin the other day. Couldn't really justify an expensive one and wondered why they are so expensive but now the one we bought has broken (it was a push lid one). So wondered whether we should have spent more and bought a Brabantia? But I resent having to spend that amount of money on something you put the rubbish in. Are they really worth it or are you just paying for a 'designer name' (for a bin?!)

ours is still going strong after however many years.we just buy tescos black bin bags.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/03/2011 14:16

Yes, we don't have any food recycling apart from the compost heap, and our bin lives very close to our main food prep area, so any whiffs are noticeable, do need to change it often, esp in summer. A big one would take up a bit too much room for us too, it's whatever suits really.

Figgyrolls · 17/03/2011 14:18

It was the best money spent, although at the time I felt a little sick! (Although I then went and go a human simple touch thing for the recycling as it was pretty Hmm)

Ours is seven years old nearly, we had it on the wedding list, I think it was nearly £70. There is a ten year guarantee and they change any defective parts free of charge in that time. The catch on our lid broke two years ago and they sent us a new one, very quickly too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2011 21:25

has anyone got this twin one? we empty out our bin chuck out a hanging up carrier bag every night and our recycling once every few days. So I thoughtI could use the 10l for everyday and the 23l for recycling.

SparkyToo · 20/03/2011 21:34

Thanks Dexter73 for the bin liner tip!

When I'm on an economy drive I use black bin liners but they hang out of the top and really look a mess.

They are fab bins and we tend to empty our 50l most days. However, because they are so large, when not emptied they do start to smell!

Seona1973 · 21/03/2011 11:15

I wouldnt pay that amount for a bin! I have a double bin with one side for recycling and the other for household waste. It is this one: Duo Bin

jamaisjedors · 21/03/2011 11:23

Which ones are better - the touch lids or the hinged lids (pedal)?

hatwoman · 21/03/2011 11:27

agree - defeintely worth it. ours is like new. and when the lid went I emailed someone and a new one just appeared a couple of days later.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/03/2011 20:27

I prefer pedal as I prefer not to touch it with my hands whilst cooking.

notcitrus · 21/03/2011 21:17

I must have a lemon - the pedal has never really worked properly, it's hard to get the bags out, and the whole thing dents and scratches really easily and never looks shiny.

I think the 30L one is just too thin to be useful - stuff keeps getting stuck.
Anyone want it? Hmm
