what gets the tea stains off the inside of your mugs (if you drink your tea black) ?

We're renting at the moment and don't have a dishwasher (which used to shift those stubborn stains) . I though neat vinegar would do it but I wonder if anyone has any other suggestions ?

god,i just bleach them. prob not the best thing, but it works!

orienteerer · 16/09/2010 19:17

Bleach or a good pan scrub

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 16/09/2010 19:17

a sprinkling of table salt when the inside of the mug is damp acts as a scrub and gets off any stain. use the tips of your fingers to grind the salt against the stain.

fryalot · 16/09/2010 19:18

I try to clean them as often as possible with a good plastic scoury thing.

If they get really bad I bleach them.

JulesJules · 16/09/2010 19:18

Bleach.

colditz · 16/09/2010 19:18

bleach

MooMinCow · 16/09/2010 20:05

Cif or other cream cleaner - use on dry mug and work on stains with fingertips (like LittleCheesyPineappleOne does with salt) rinse and wash as normal.

PuppyMonkey · 16/09/2010 20:06

Dishwasher

herbgarden · 16/09/2010 20:10

No dishwasher....
but thanks for the other comments. It's my mil- it really riles me - all she does is leave it with water sitting in it by the sink as if that's going to shift it ? I then have to use a bit of elbow grease getting it off !
I'll leave her instructions next time Grin

I drank black tea for years and never had to use bleach or Cif - the salt really does work

LunarSea · 16/09/2010 20:13

Fizzy Denture cleaning tablets - disolve in a bowl, leave your mugs overnight, they'll be white again in the morning.

Livingbytheriver · 16/09/2010 22:27

We have a baby in the house so I tried Milton tablets the other day, it worked for me (I hate the smell of bleach).

Alouiseg · 17/09/2010 08:15

I use liquid milton. It works beautifully on rooibos tea stains, perhaps I should try it on my teeth Hmm

mousymouse · 17/09/2010 08:18

non scratch scouring pad works well here.

malovitt · 17/09/2010 08:22

I second Steradent or equivalent own brand denture cleaning tablets - really works.

SmacsGonePotty · 17/09/2010 08:41

try some soda crystals

Rockbird · 17/09/2010 08:47

Um, I just wash them. A decent scrub stops them building up surely?

jazzandh · 17/09/2010 10:32

Biological washing powder - soak them well.

Our teapot permanently has tea of some description in it - and it cleans it within minutes.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 17/09/2010 11:49

My mum used to use washing powder in her teapot (when she used to make tea in a pot). That seemed to work.

sapphireblue · 17/09/2010 13:55

bleach

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 17/09/2010 13:59

Bicarb. Even my dishwasher doesn't get mine off [slut that leaves tea bags in mug whilst drinking].

angels3 · 17/09/2010 18:39

Saw this, and I don't use bleach, but a bit of washing non-bio washing powder diluted with hot water left over night will remove the thickest black stain from a teapot, and the cups. Then rinse it out and give them a wash to remove the last of the powder. Works every time.
