Moving to Hull

Hi

My partner has just graduated as a dentist after retaining. I’m so proud of him. Sadly for his 2yr NHS grad placement we’ve ended up with Hull and no way to be any closer to home.

I WFH full time remote so isn’t an issue for my career but we aren’t from Hull or even close by. It’s about a 3hr drive. Does anyone know Hull? Are there any nice areas to look at renting in/ live in?

Being very honest I don’t want to move as we bought a house 2yrs ago which we have been renovating and it’s just finished so we will have to either sell it or rent it out which makes me sad as it’s only just finished.

any advice would be appreciated

TIA

Beverley or cottingham you could get to the hospital by train. Kingswood areas you would have to drive and parking isn’t good

Not loads but it changes all the time.

This is a nice area, photos are a bit limited but well within your budget and in a nice part of the town.

@Lumpalicious thank you I appreciate you sending it across. Howden does look quite nice and a bit closer to home

Here's a few examples of what your budget could get in nice, commute friendly areas.

@WitchSharkadder thank you for these :)

It's not budget that's a problem in Beverley, it's getting a garden that's bigger than a box- not many come up at all. And having been a rental situation before buying myself, getting somewhere that's happy to take dogs unfortunately - when things already go fast, it's a barrier. Things aren't London speed though, you'll be happy to hear!

When I did rent in Beverley, I used Rent East Yorkshire, they were a good letting agent and were happy enough with our dog.

Beverley seems absolutely lovely and I have a few work colleagues that live there.

WitchSharkadder · 28/06/2024 23:20

I commute (also NHS) York-Hull 2-3 times a week for work and even that isn't too bad. I know it'd be worse for your DH as he'll need to be physically everyday at work for odd shift patterns, but it's more than doable. So you could also consider areas such as Pocklington, Market Weighton and the nearby villages.

I’m also hull and work at the main hospital and it’s really not that bad! I live in north hull which isn’t that desirable but I’m happy here, friends that work with me that live in better areas tend to go for Beverley, Cottingham, Hessle and their commute also tends to be short! As someone above said with Kingswood, properties don’t really have much of a garden

@anon2022anon that was my main fear finding somewhere that will let us bring the dog. There is also no way I would come without the dog she out baby

@WitchSharkadder we did get York as an option for placement but put it lower in the preference as was worried about rental prices there. Definitely worth having a look at those areas thank you

@Mercury2702 thank you I appreciate your advice.

Are a lot of the hospital workers in similar situations of having relocated? DP is a bit of an introvert but I’m hoping that environment might make people open to being more friendly

There's one property listed in Beverley at the moment that fits your criteria
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/86896452#/?channel=RES_LET
No pictures, but this is a nice, quiet little new build estate on the edge of Beverley- it's about 20 minutes walk to to the centre, 30 mins to the train station.
It's got a couple of secure dog fields in very close distance, and it's close to the bypass for driving out to Hull/ elsewhere.

Check out this 3 bedroom house for rent on Rightmove

3 bedroom house for rent in Magnolia Close, Beverley, HU17 for £1,200 pcm. Marketed by Quick and Clarke, Beverley

This is worth a look.

Beverley is great. I've lived here 20 years, moved from west Yorkshire. It's a lovely town, plenty to do. I'd recommend looking for houses near the town and station. There has been quite a lot of development recently on the outskirts of town, but I prefer to be closer to the centre so you can walk to everything.

Beverley is very dog friendly. Seems like everyone has one!!

@Relocater123 I just came across your post whilst doing some research for work purposes and I wondered how you are getting on. Did you make Hull your new home in the end? If so, I do hope you're enjoying it here! I was disappointed to see some out-of-towners declaring Hull to be grim, especially someone who calls themselves a relocation specialist but hasn't taken the time to do any research into the villages surrounding Hull, many of which are absolutely beautiful. If you need any further recommendations for nights out or places to live, let me know. I live in Willerby and work at Tranby School in Anlaby, both really lovely areas. Best of luck!
