Would you paint your ceiling in a colour other than white?

All our ceilings are white but just musing really (and not sure I can be arsed with the faffery of painting a ceiling).

If yours is a different colour, do you love it?

Mine are very pale.grey. love it.

SharonEllis · 24/03/2026 19:48

Always white. We moved into a house with cream ceilings - looked so much better when they were white again.

beeble347 · 24/03/2026 19:51

Yes and we have done. One of ours is gold! Looks amazing. Has to be very crisp lines, really thorough solid colour and good quality paint to work though.

LibertyLily · 24/03/2026 20:00

Yes...we currently have a blue one and a green. Love them and plan to do another soon - they're so much more interesting than white imo.

SkankingWombat · 24/03/2026 20:04

No, but I have mostly strong colours on the walls, so I like the white ceilings to lighten it up.
A glimmering gold ceiling sounds fab, however...

charrona · 24/03/2026 20:06

Funny, I was thinking gold would look great in my living room. I have a vile textured ceiling though so that would have to go first.

I wish i was the sort of person who had the guts to do this but im not.

RampantIvy · 24/03/2026 20:11

No. Our house doesn't have high ceilings and they need to be white to make the rooms light.

Cyd4 · 24/03/2026 20:17

I generally can’t bear a white ceiling. I would rather a dark ceiling and lighter walls.

I don’t understand who ordained that ceilings and woodwork must always be white. I like to feel cosy in my home and surrounded by warmth and rich colour.

horses for courses, I expect.

WheretheFishesareFrightening · 24/03/2026 20:19

Ours is black in our bathroom and it’s my favourite room by far, I think because of the ceiling.

CombatBarbie · 24/03/2026 20:22

My bedroom is drenched in a dark plum......moment of madness after separation. However, i have high walls and 2 windows that are bigger than standard doors so plenty light. If the room can handle it, why not!? Dare to be different

Mum2Fergus · 24/03/2026 20:22

I ‘drenched’ my office in a light green shade from Little Green…ceiling walls doors skirting radiator, everything the same. Totally love it and will definitely be doing it again.

Please post a pic if possible- I love the sound of this & tempted to follow suit…

Ours had 2 navy ceilings when we moved in, absolutely hideous and a bugger to repaint white

wherearethesnacks · 24/03/2026 20:25

If I lived in a spacious period home with original features.

golddiamond · 24/03/2026 20:27

We have no white ceilings at all. And never will.

DancingLions · 24/03/2026 20:29

I've gone for coloured ceilings. No matter what you do, white always gets discoloured over time. Or just gets to the point where it doesn't look "fresh" any more. I think colour looks better for longer. That's why I have no white walls either. My last step now is changing all the woodwork from white to light mahogany.

I'm getting older now and I dont want to have to redecorate my whole house again! I'm in a victorian place with high ceilings so no issue about feeling cramped and it suits colour and darker wood.

Growlybear83 · 24/03/2026 20:29

Weve always has some ceilings in different colours. My kitchen ceiling is dark grey and my dining room ceiling and the space between the picture rail and ceiling are mid green

I think you can have any colour you like.

I dislike dark colours because they drain the light and, as someone with poor eyesight, I need to have light coloured rooms with white painted ceilings to reflect the light in order to be able to see well.

SwirlyGates · 24/03/2026 20:46

Most of our rooms have cornices or picture rails, and fairly high ceilings. The ceilings, and top of the walls if there is a picture rail, are mostly cream but sometimes darker colours. Never white. The cornices are white, and I like a different colour for the ceiling.

NeedToKnow101 · 24/03/2026 20:48

My bathroom is partly painted blush pink with the same pink on the ceiling. It’s looks fabulous.

NFPorterkeeponkeepingonNsoul · 24/03/2026 20:50

Ours are cream as that's what I painted them 25yr ago and kept the same when I redo them.
In my defence they're stippled artex and a bastard to paint as I found out when I tried to cover the green the previous tenant used on every ceiling .

ThreeB · 24/03/2026 20:52

I’ve colour drenched my bathroom and my office. Bathroom is a lovely sage green and my office is a heather shade. Both are north facing so it makes them super cosy.
our south facing bedroom is next and that is a taupe shade but it gets so much light (huge windows) that a white is overpowering and we needed something a little muted so it didn’t feel quite so clinical

TheLette · 24/03/2026 20:54

Yes, walls and ceiling are a lovely rich beige colour. Our bedroom ceiling is vaulted and I think it makes it look more impressive. The room is quite large and south facing. Not sure i'd go for a different colours to the walls though.

LlynTegid · 24/03/2026 20:55

Never had anything else and never considered other than white.
