Silly question perhaps, but what do people actually put in vases when they can’t be bothered buying fresh flowers all the time?

pussy cat willow branches

Fairy lights scrunched up in the right vase look good

Dried flowers or fake flowers if they look realistic enough.

Shelby1981 · 09/03/2026 06:42

Lego flowers

Yes, Lego!

Wolfpa · 09/03/2026 06:45

Mine are currently full of corks

After storms, I go out and pick up branches from my local parks, trim them down and plonk them in. It’s all eucalyptus around here so lots of romantic sweeping and drooping.

I can't say I'm a fan but I've noticed this in a couple of very nice, hipster/ arty Air BnBs I've stayed in!

I use pretty jugs for vases that look nice without anything in them

lifeisgoodrightnow · 09/03/2026 07:58

I’ve just finally fallen for contempee after all the adverts - I’ll let you know if they’re good or overhyped

Offcom · 09/03/2026 11:23

Medium/big twigs that have fallen from trees in the park wrapped in tiny IKEA string lights on a timer

VexedofVirginiaWater · 09/03/2026 11:40

I just put them away in the cupboard, or with a few coloured glass vases I put them on a high up window sill so the light shines through them. Many vases can look nice even when they're empty.

gillybombilly · 09/03/2026 11:43

I came here to say Pussy Willow, too.

I bought two bunches in January and they’re still lovely and fresh (just a little water needed as a top up from time to time).

GoldDuster · 09/03/2026 11:46

I put the vases in the cupboard.

Artificial flowers

Dried flowers / twigs.
Marbles.
Tea lights, they need storing so why not put them somewhere to look nice?
Nice material / tinsel / scrunched up coloured paper.
It's nearly easter, coloured eggs.

Branches always look elegant .. especially in taller vases. They somehow make a room feel instantly styled without trying too hard

Same here and I love that they keep their look for so long without any fuss.😀

Funny how a vase can sit empty for months… and then suddenly become the thing that makes a room feel finished 😅
Lately I’ve been loving simple dried stems because they stay looking good without needing attention, and every season seems to suit a different style.

What’s everyone’s go-to dried flowers, branches, pampas, or nothing at all?

I've got strawflowers that I grew last year. They have kept their colour beautifully.
