What would you put up here, curtains? Blinds?

I prefer curtains but I can’t envision how they could look here. Can anyone suggest anything please?

I’d have perfect fit blinds

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 08/05/2025 16:04

I'd put up roman blinds I think. Curtains round a bay are always tricky, but you could do each side separately.

Iloveanicegarden · 08/05/2025 16:12

I love curtains for the way they envelop and maintain the feeling of warmth If you want to be cosy in the winter and save on heating, curtains across the bay would cut off the (potentially) cold area. If you're into open plan and airiness then blinds up at windows and doors, though you will need to careful using the doors.

HeartyOchreHelper · 08/05/2025 16:14

Perfect fit shutters would be nice!

I don’t think normal blinds would work well and I get annoyed with long curtains and patio doors.

Blinds for sure over doors. Holland or louvre - same colour as door.
Inner blinds and long warm (or romantic sheer and floaty) curtains over each side corner windows that pull back from the middle to open.

Or white wooden louvres, fitted over all.

Thanks everyone. Would Roman blinds work?

I love this material, from John Lewis.

Why can't you have curtains, they would sit against the first bit of the wall when open.

Echhoingloudlyy · 08/05/2025 19:40

I think Roman blinds might work best.

Is that a shelf above them??
I think I'd take that down, leave the roller blinds, and fit a single track all the way round the bay.

Then a pair of curtains (or maybe 2 pairs of curtains?) that can either be partially pulled into the corner, or totally pulled round the whole bay.

I like your fabric, but can't picture it with the yellow walls. Could be fine tho.

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 08/05/2025 20:00

Roman blinds generally don't work over doors, as you've got a stack at the top when they're drawn up. I'd go for curtains on a bent bay track and stack at each end, so they're not in the way when you're using the doors. Cameron Fuller do a bendable track in a square or round metal design and Silent Gliss either do a Metropole or ceiling fix tracks that are unobtrusive. You may find that much glass is cold in the winter, so I'd go for lined and interlined curtains full length all round. (I work in the trade).

I have the same doors/windows combo, with -

Electric roller blinds over the front facing windows and on the door (make sure it rolls all the way up and out of the way, otherwise it's a pain to go in and out in summer!)

Coordinating Roman blinds on the side windows. I just thought it was too big an expanse of the same colour/pattern. I do have matching cushions though to bring it all together.

parietal · 08/05/2025 20:18

I’d do full wall curtains as in the picture from @Wakemeupbe4yougogo

mathanxiety · 08/05/2025 20:22

I'd put Roman blinds there. You can get blinds to attach to the doors.

With blinds, you can be much more flexible with raising/ lowering depending on light conditions and direction of sunlight, and imo they offer 'cleaner' lines than curtains do.

Shutters

ForFunGoose · 08/05/2025 23:22

Looks like a curtain pelmet above, did previous owner have a full sweep with curtains? For heating purposes I would do curtains.

Echhoingloudlyy · 09/05/2025 01:32

I would prefer curtains, I’m just not sure how to hang them.

OP posts:
Echhoingloudlyy · 09/05/2025 02:10

Would it work to hang them across the room side of the bay?

My neighbours (same window setup) have some curtains like that. It looks perfectly fine.

It just seems a shame to me to 'lose' that chunk of room from around 4pm through the winter. We have a seat and a cat tower there to each side (our cat just took possession of that spot as soon as we moved in, great for bird watching) so we didn't want to shut her off. But if you don't have specific plans for it, you can do that.

I’d also do this.
I wouldn’t put Roman blinds on a door I don’t think. And I don’t really like those perfect fit blinds.

TizerorFizz · 09/05/2025 07:23

I do lose my bays (2 in one room) . I have the curtains across the front. However this is our second lounge and we tend to use it at night only and don’t draw the curtains until it’s dark whatever time that is. With a wide gap these will cost a lot and mine are on poles between ceiling and top of window. You need a big pole!

In our other room with a bay, we don’t have French windows. It’s a large square bay and I have Roman blinds made to fit. However I am not sure how well they would work over French windows. Mine are a sheer fabric which are not designed to save heat!

Im not sure curved tracks work with heavy lined curtains so that’s why I’ve gone with the straight heavy pole across the front. Curved tracks are better with sheers. My blinds and curtains are all made to measure.

crazycatladie · 09/05/2025 07:29

Blinds on the windows and curtains on the door. I find if it’s a hard floor (no carpet) and only blinds it doesn’t look cosy.

TizerorFizz · 09/05/2025 07:31

There’s nowhere to park curtains just on the door. They will block the windows. You need to be able to park curtains against a wall.
